I stumbled upon this wonderful meditation that is available free on the internet to download and listen to. Since they are saying we are in a recession, it would be so beneficial to have lots of people meditating on what money really is--the truth of money. So if you want an experience of the truth of money, go to the link below.

http://k.livingonlove.com/book-money-is-love.shtml

Scroll about 2/3 down to where the headline is:

Meditations for "Money is Love" book

Then right click on the last link--Meditation 3. A dialogue box will open. In Mozilla, I click on Save Link As and send it to My Music file on the C drive. Then I go into my Windows Media Player and call it up. You can keep this meditation that way and listen to it whenever you want to. It will change your experience of money--I promise!

If the instructions don't work for you, you can always just bookmark the link and then click on the meditation to listen to.

Of course, you'll see lots of other things to pursue as well on the website linked above!

with love,

Energy is the only currency. If you can't turn your energy into cash, it's not worth a plug nickel.

Energy is of prime importance and the driving force of all success and results. In The Science of Success Learning System, we explore the understanding that everything is comprised of energy. Therefore, the results you do or do not have in your life today are directly correlated to the level of energy you personally can accumulate and maintain.

How frequently have you known a person who has had some amount of success in their life, possibly a good month or even a strong year, only to find that results slip away and cannot be retained? In most cases, this situation is not understood by the individual involved for it seems as if they're doing the same things they did when they achieved the original results... and yet they are getting a very different outcome.

The answer lies at the energetic level...
Let's agree up front that when I speak of energy, I'm not speaking of hyped-up activity. In fact, while there is a time and a place for colossal action, often the insightful will realize the answer lies in the direct opposite.

We've been taught since antiquity that there are two forces at play in our Universe: the active and the receptive, the dynamic and the magnetic, the yang and the yin, the traditional male and female. Western society has been historically action oriented (yang), while Eastern cultures have tended to lean more towards the yin.

As the East becomes more westernized in its activity, it also is experiencing the same difficulties. Energy is maintained through a harmony of yin and yang. Activity is an expenditure of energy and, if overdone, will deplete your reserves. While too much of either is counterproductive, being out of harmony tends to be epidemic in our world.

Intellect is yang... Increasing Spirit is yin.
You may have heard me say before that if you want to increase your currency, you must do three things: collect, condense and escalate your energy. To accomplish this, you must be a master of the delicate harmony between activity and introspection/reflection.

Obviously this is not a popular mentality in our currently male-dominated, active world...

And that's why our entire planet is poised on the brink of a major adjustment.
The true student cuts a heroic trail that the mass population does not understand... Mass mentality is caught up in their "doing," while the student puts her primary focus on "being."

If you can agree that energy is what determines results, then it stands to reason that the more energy you can muster and maintain, the greater your results. Furthermore, energy is just a variation spirit.

Does this mean that the wealthy are all spiritual? Not necessarily. Living in a physical world, the ego (intellectual, yang mind) can power itself to physical results without a full understanding of spiritual cause.

Therefore, choose your teachers and mentors wisely. While someone may have the ego power to collect a certain amount of toys and trinkets on the physical plane, they often don't have a clue regarding the Infinite. Some may be able to tell you how to accumulate a million dollars, yet this by no means qualifies them to teach you how to be truly wealthy.

Likewise, it does stand to reason that the poor are probably not spiritual (filled with energy), even though in many cases, they may claim to be "religious."

The person who said, "Money is the root of all evil," probably didn't have any!
These individuals have totally forgotten their birthright and who they truly are... Abundance. (Note: If you missed my message from a few months ago, It Is a Sin to Be Poor, you can check it out on my blog archives. I dive in deep in that message.)

Your speed of oscillation will determine the results and the surroundings you attract to your life.

No energy, no cash, no results.

To the degree that you increase your personal velocity through the constant harmony of yang (activity) and yin (inactivity/receptivity), you'll find your environment and your world will change.

Let your intuition be your guide:

If you passionately feel that something is right to do, do it passionately. If you are ambivalent or uncertain... wait. Take time each day to be alone and journey inside (yin).

Limit, or even better, turn off "the plug-in drug" (a.k.a. the TV). This income- and energy-reducer is transmitting a constant stream of electrons right into your brain that puts you in a trance state and dulls mind and your senses.

Avoid the murder, mayhem and sensationalism spouting from the media. Avoid the emotional propaganda designed to keep you in a constant state of fear and disempowerment. It will dull the senses, limit creativity and suggest that we're totally out of control and unable to do anything about it.

Be courageous enough to walk the Path of Power. Be courageous enough to take back your power. The first step is to step back.

Success comes and goes, but significance echoes across eternity.

To your continued wealth and happiness.
The thing about him that was interesting is that he didn't dress fancy or act any differently, he was just full of love and genuine compassion. I notice that about all the people who make lots of money with this company, it's like once you understand that caring about people is what is going to help you be successful in the world, your business explodes and you become more successful. I always knew that, but somehow it just got brought into real clarity once I started meeting people that make things happen.

FIRE THE GRID
by Shelley Yates www.firethegrid.org
THE STORY

We are now in a time when natural disasters like hurricanes,
earthquakes and tidal waves are dramatically affecting our planet, and our lives
on it. We now have the power to destroy this beautiful Earth quickly,
with atomic power, or more slowly, with pollution and devastation of our
resources and overpopulation. I have been guided to tell you that we
also have the very real power to save this planet and to make it a loving
and healthy place for ourselves and for future generations. Please take
a few minutes to read my story. It will hopefully save our Earth.

I have a story to tell you that I know will be hard to believe in
parts, but it has happened to me, and I cannot erase or deny any of it,
though at times I wish I could. I am a normal woman who grew up in simple
yet chaotic times. I am much like you in most every way. I always
thought I would be the last one to have a miracle occur in her life, much
less two miracles and all that has happened since. Therefore the tale I
tell could be of your life, and not mine. But seeing it is mine, I guess
I was meant to tell it.

What I want to establish first is the fact that miracles do happen, and
they happen to people like you and me. What we need to make these
miracles happen is to open ourselves to the communication that is all around
us every day-communication not from this world but from the world of
our Creator, the Cosmos and the Universe. The message comes from a
distance, but you find it by going inside and believing. We can all create
miracles within our lives, and that is one of the main points in writing
this for you. I have no special tricks. Simply open yourself to the
possibility that what I tell you is possible and that it is available to
every person.

I will refer to God in many ways throughout this story. This is strange
for me to refer to God in any sense, as I believed He had abandoned me
a very long time ago. But I will refer to a Prime Creator of the Cosmos
and the Universe, along with this Earth that we live on every day. I
call God the Prime Creator because I want all those to understand that
this story is completely unbiased and unprejudiced to any affiliation
with any religion, and the God of my understanding is not only an Earthly
God, but a Universal God. I will also refer to God as Mother Earth,
Gaia, which I came to learn through this journey is the female piece of
God. As in everything that is in our Universe, you must balance darkness
with Light, peace with war and recognize the two faces of God, the
female and the male. We are all pieces of this Prime Creator. We are a part
of God.

Two miracles happened in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. My son and I
drowned in a flooded marsh and not only lived to tell the tale, but we are
better than ever. I was dead for fifteen minutes. I was told by Beings
of Light how to save myself and my small son, and I was given a message
on how to heal the Earth.

As you are reading this, I ask you with all my heart to open yourself
to the possibility of what I say. I feel it is imperative that we unite
this world as one planet with one common goal-to establish peace and
prosperity for all, not just the select few who were blessed to be in the
right place at the right time. We are entering a new phase of Humanity,
and what I will tell you in this website, www.firethegrid.org , will
help us as a race to assimilate the changes that the future will bring.

I have not had God in my life for forty years. I did, however, as a
child, chase the possibility of God. I felt that those people who had
undying faith were the lucky ones, and the fact that I believed in nothing
made me the loser. As a child I often spoke to God but never felt heard
or connected. It took life throwing me into a flooded marsh and
drowning me to open my eyes to the reality of how much we are all connected to
the Divine Power.

It is showing up now more than ever. You can go on the Internet and
find thousands of hits about the next phase of Humanity, the Era of
Enlightenment and the time of change. These stories are in our religions and
in the stories of the ancient cultures such as the Mayans, the
Egyptians and the Native Americans. We have all been waiting for the moment
when things would be different, for surely God will do something to save
us from ourselves.

Well, there is something in the works, but God is merely directing it
through people like me, and it will take the faith of people like you to
create the reality. Once again I am getting ahead of myself, but in the
messages I am receiving, I am being given a way for us all to
participate in a healing of Mother Earth, and a launching of the human race into
a time of health, peace and positive change. But for this to happen,
you will need to sit in meditation for just one hour of your life.

I once heard in the Star Trek series, resistance is futile. I did not
want to be a messenger for God, but when God wishes our awakening, it
will happen. So now I will tell you the Truth of what happened to me
after a car accident that occurred in November 2002.

My son and I were traveling to a friend's house for an afternoon of
play when disaster hit. My car was swept into a flooded marsh after
hydroplaning. The car landed upside down in this boggy marsh and sank to the
bottom. I tried to open the car's windows, but the power windows
failed, and we were trapped inside. I spoke with my tiny son who was four at
the time and assured him that Mommy would get him out.

The car was filling up quickly with the cold, murky water, and I held
my son's coat tightly in my hand while I waited to be fully submerged. I
hoped that I could open the door after the car equalized with water and
we would swim out. My final words to my little boy as the water came
over his head were, "Hold your breath, honey; Mommy will have us out
soon." I watched him take a large gulp of the remaining air, and the water
took him. When I felt the last air pocket escape the car, I tried the
door. It wouldn't budge! The other door was equally stuck. I struggled
with the doors several times, to no avail. We were trapped and going to
die.

At this point I took Evan's little body and pushed it over the seat,
hoping beyond hope that he would find air. As I struggled to free us from
this coffin on wheels, I realized I had to breathe. As I drank the deep
breath of water into my lungs, the fiery feeling added panic to the
moment. I wanted my baby back, and I swung my arms feverishly about in an
effort to find his body. I couldn't; and I needed to breathe again.

That is when I heard a voice, a calm majestic voice, directing me to
relax. This voice cooed in my ear, reassuring me that all would be well.
I was infused with the knowledge that if I fought the water, my
rescuers would not be able to revive me when they arrived. The voice said that
if I fought the water, I would drown.

The voice continued to give me instructions about what was to happen
and that all would be well if I just followed the instructions. I
relinquished myself to this voice from beyond and passed quietly into the
other side.

While on the other side I saw Beings of Light who once again assured me
that my son and I would not only get out of this car, but we would both
be fine. They were definite in explaining that I must follow
instructions implicitly and not lose faith in their words. I was told to have
faith, that I would be Divinely directed, and I was.

It took my rescuers fifteen minutes to pull my lifeless body from that
car and another seven minutes of CPR to revive me. As my body bolted
upright, I blurted "get my baby out of the car." Twenty-two minutes had
passed. The rescuers jumped back into the freezing bog to retrieve my
son, knowing against hope, that he was dead. It took rescuers another
five minutes or so to get my boy free from that car. His limp body was
transported to the IWK Children's Hospital, where he was immediately
hooked to every machine known to mankind.

The team of emergency doctors and neurologists were waiting for me.
They assured me that my sweet little boy was indeed brain dead, and in
addition to this, his internal organs were full of blood. He was
hemorrhaging throughout his body, and his organs were non-viable. Things were
the most bleak I have ever known. That is when the voice came to me
again. "Have faith, child."

The doctors advised me to unplug my baby and let him pass peacefully,
for even if a miracle happened and he did live, he would be a vegetable.
"No quality of life" is all I remember thinking. Once again I heard the
voice, "have faith." For that moment the doctors agreed to keep Evan on
life support, but advised me not to hold out any hope. He had less than
one percent chance of living, and then he would continue to be hooked
to all these machines for the rest of his life. Remember, I had no God,
so I could not even call for guidance.

It was in the quiet of my first moment alone that I was given the
instructions. "Follow the instructions implicitly." Memories of the visions
and the voice in the lake flooded back to me. There was someone there
with me, I was sure of it, and I decided to listen carefully. I was
instructed to rebuild my son's aura by infusing his little body with the
auras of others. Twenty minutes at a time was one of the first rules, for
if it was longer, you would drain the aura of the giver.

They instructed me to parade loving people through Evan's room, each
depositing their own energy field into his lifeless body. They were to do
this by connecting their flesh to his flesh and allowing their energy
to run through his body, and then to give Evan their Gift. If they sang,
they were to sing. If they were story tellers, tell a story, and so on.
Infuse him with positive energy and your love and your talents, and
this will revive him.

I proceeded against hospital protocol to send loving humans into my
son's room every half hour. They then followed the instructions and gave
their gift of love. This procession lasted twenty-four hours a day, for
three days. Dozens and dozens of people came. They "camped out" every
day and every night-loving, trusting souls infusing his lifeless body
with fresh energy.

The fact that I was able to convince the hospital to allow this
unorthodox behavior to happen was a miracle in itself, but on the third day,
after 72 hours of constant vigil, my boy opened his little eyes and
recognized me. He was back!!!

The doctors were baffled. They continued to tell me that he would never
walk or talk or be a normal child again. However their words this time
had no effect on me. The guidance and direction from my spiritual Light
Beings had proved to me beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would be
fine; after all, my "friend" in the lake had told me so.

Within the first week Evan had recovered all his body functions, and by
the end of the second week he was running down the halls to the
hospital playroom. This was indeed an incredible miracle. What had I done to
deserve such reprieve by our Almighty Creator? I didn't know nor did I
care. I wanted to take my son home and be done with the whole nightmare.
This is when I realized that I might be done with my Light friends, but
they were not done with me.

I continued to hear the voices and be directed with both visions and
seeing auras. Needless to say, I was more than a little freaked out. As
time passed, I would ask, "What do you want of me?" They would speak of
the love for the Universe and how things have gone terribly wrong.
Humanity has spiraled out of control and has lost its true connection to
God and to this Earth.

They want desperately for me to give the humans of this world a message
from "beyond"-that we have inside of us the power to unite this planet
as one race with peace and prosperity for all. This power lies inside
us all, and when combined with the loving energy of other humans, we can
do for this planet what we did for my son. We can revive this Earth and
catapult it into healing. With this healing will come a new phase of
Humanity. We will have a time of peace and harmony. All it will take is
our intention as a united group-and one hour of our time.

So as the voices and visions unraveled, I was given the guidance of how
to make this all happen. However it will take many of us on this planet
to see to the success of the project. As they told me to rotate the
humans through my son's room, they have told me to unite Humanity from
every corner of the globe-not every human, just representatives from every
corner. We can do this. We need to unite enough people to fire the
Divine Energy System of this planet and jump start it like we did with my
boy.

This global project of loving intention is completely possible. Your
intention to make it happen can change the outcome of this planet. I will
discuss the details of the plan in the next section of this E-mail. I
will give you the directions to follow, and you will see how little it
will take for you to become an ambassador of Light to our home, Planet
Earth. I beseech you to join me when we fire the Earth grid on July 17,
2007, and add your energy to this project.

I promise you, just one hour of your time, and you can help heal this
planet and help create peace among all people. My son and I are examples
of the power of positive energy and what humans are truly capable of
when they unite with the intention of love. Love is the universal
language of our world and the world beyond.

Light and Love be with you, and welcome to the next phase of Humanity;
be part of the excitement and please join us.

The Light Beings have told me we can stop much of the harmful behavior
and destruction on Earth if enough humans decide that they want to
become spiritually connected. It is possible to re-form a grid connection
between us that will allow us to realign the energy of this planet and
with each other.

The Beings of Light have told me that on July 17, 2007, THERE WILL BE A
SURGE OF CREATION ENERGY, which will make our reconnection possible.
Please read about this in The Plan. There is hope for a miracle!

THE PLAN

For the past two-and-a-half years, Light Beings have been communicating
with me frequently. At first, I was very uncomfortable with this, as it
was so foreign to what I believed and how I lived. But as time has gone
on, I have grown enormously in my faith in our Creator and my belief
that there is much more to life than what we generally physically
experience. There are other dimensions that are just as real as ours, and
there are forces of good that truly want to help us.

The Light Beings have explained to me that we are all connected by
Source energy. This connection has a grid-type configuration, so to make
things simple, I'm just calling it "the Grid." There are small grids
connected to the large grid. For instance, each species of animal has its
own grid. This allows easy communication between animals. I'm sure
you've wondered how salmon know when to travel upriver to spawn or how
monarch butterflies all know to fly to Mexico or geese to fly in perfect
formations. Their connection to their grid allows them to know where to go
and when to go. In the Asian tsunami, very few animals died. That is
because they were informed through their grids that danger was coming.

Human Beings chose many thousands of years ago to disconnect themselves
from a collective grid, so that they could have free will. This
severance has allowed us to make our own decisions and be independent. But it
has also allowed us to make many mistakes, which have adversely
affected this planet. And it has made our direct communication with The Source
more difficult. We are now at a turning point when our disconnection
could mean the end of the Earth, as it now exists.

This Earth is being harmed by us. This is the section I happily present
as the plan to help remedy the situation in which we find ourselves.
This is the plan which will allow us to more fully connect to the Earth
grid and begin the healing of this planet. Together we will reset Mother
Earth with a bio-electric "SURGE OF LOVE" from Humanity.

When we do sit in meditation simultaneously and fire the Grid for one
hour, we will unite the globe and connect all the regions of the Earth
simultaneously. In the process, we will unite our souls in love, peace,
harmony and collective cooperation for a better world for our people,
today and in the future.

The plan was given to me by the same Light Beings that guided me while
I was drowning in the lake. They have been with me since that time and
have been delivering to me information about our world and how we, with
love and unification, can pour our loving intention of peace and
healing into this Earth. They want to set us on the path for a healthy
planet, viable and working now and for the generations that follow. They also
want to direct us to the way to enlightenment and union with the
Divine.

The Light Beings use the term "fire the grid" when they speak of the
energizing of Humanity with Divine Power on July 17, 2007. They say
firing the grid will accomplish two things. First, it will pulse healing
energy into the center of the Earth and regenerate the core or the heart
of the planet. Just as we poured our energy into my dying son, we will
individually give the gift of our true intention, the gift of our
individuality and the gift of our healing energy. As they explained, my son's
energy field was badly deteriorated, as is the Earth's.

We must pour some of our living energy into the Earth, and the
accumulation of our combined energy will regenerate the Earth. They told me
humans are like little lightening rods channeling God's energy to the
planet.

Because we have separated ourselves from our complete connection to The
Source by not having a fully functioning Human grid, God's energy has
not been able to easily flow into the Earth. If we choose to come
together to rebuild our grid, then the natural flow of energy between us and
God, God and the Earth and from person to person will be restored. Do
you see what a wonderful gift you will give? This energy will live on
eternally with the Earth and its inhabitants-the splendor of the
Creator's intention for us realized in the creation of this new energy field
for our planet.

How do we do this you ask? The time has been set for July 17, 2007, at
11:11 A.M. Greenwich Mean Time, that is 4:11 a.m. PDT or 7:11 a.m. EDT.
I have been given no indication about why this date and time have been
chosen, but this date has been told to me over and over again. I have
been asked to bring together as many humans as possible throughout the
world, from every corner of the globe, to simply sit and pray or
meditate for one hour during that time.

Hopefully, with your help, we will amass a union of humans such as the
world has never seen. Loving humans having one intention can heal our
planet and awaken our souls to our true purpose-to become One with our
Source of Light.

This planned sitting of the people of Earth will demonstrate the love
and faith we feel for the goodness of our world and her inhabitants. We
are the catalyst to the healing of Earth. A true believer has the power
of tenfold, so if you only think you may believe, know that the faith
of the others will boost your own faith, and the power will be
intensified.

That is why we must all sit at the same time. We will feed each other's
power, strengthening the force of delivery and compounding the energy
we send into the core of our home planet. Each and every one of us is
important alone, but together we are a very powerful source of creative
energy. Remember, we are all a piece of God and that energy of creation
lives in all of us.

There are three types of humans today that will bring power to this
project. First, we have those of you already practicing in an organized
religion. I am not asking you to change any of your faiths or Truths,
just know that if the God of your understanding is truly omnipotent, then
all things are possible-so why not this? What better use of our human
energy and prayer than to heal the Earth and unite mankind with God's
Grace and Goodness.

Then we have those who have been searching outside the organized
religions to find a different, more individual way in which to believe and
live in the Light of our Creator. We each search for a more individual
way in which to know God. These people I refer to as the New Age
Lightworkers. These Lightworkers will feel the Truth of these words and will
simply know deep inside that the plan of which I speak is indeed a Truth,
a clear direction in which you can be of assistance to the Earth.

The fence sitters make up the third type. I call you fence sitters
because you truly wish you had faith, but the state of the world has beaten
any faith out of you. You long for the loving touch of faith, however
you feel that God has abandoned us. Two-and-a-half years ago this was
me. I had become hardened to the reality of the world and had no faith
that God would ever intervene and save us. I was angry at God for letting
us down and delivering us such chaos.

However, I have seen that God has only provided us with that which we
desired. We believed we were sinners and not worthy of God's Love. We
were lost to the fact that we are a piece of God and therefore able to
participate in our lives with the Creator. Now to all of you who were
like me, I issue a challenge: Suspend your skepticism for just one hour of
your life, and just sit, alone or with others, to think about the
beauty of this planet, to appreciate all that you have and all that you are,
and to give hope for an improved future for us all.

This plan involves only one hour from each of us. Our combined energies
will work to direct energy to the Earth and to each other. I ask you to
choose the way in which you deliver your intention. For those of you
that pray, then pray for the hour asking for the faith and power to
accomplish this tremendous task. Those of you who meditate, meditate and see
the intention of your thoughts swirling deep inside our Earth,
delivering the love and healing.

Those of you who have no ritual of faith may simply develop one that
works for you. You may sit quietly and repeat a phrase of your intention,
such as "I offer you my energy to heal this world and its people." Any
positive words of hope, love and desire for change will manifest these
thoughts as reality- our new reality.

If possible, gather with others during this hour. I have found that the
intensity of my meditation heightens when I am sharing the experience
with other people.

As we enter a time of more loving energy, the frequencies of our Earth
will heighten. We need only open ourselves to this possibility to feel
the gift. You are a part of God entitled to all the wonder and splendor
of the Creator's Earthly gifts.

This project is going to work. Remember this process brought back a
dying boy, and I have been promised it will work on a global scale if we
can find the humans to participate.

In the Bible, it is said that they could not save Sodom and Gomorrah
for want of ten good people. We are being offered the opportunity to save
ourselves by offering only an hour of our lives. We can call out to the
Universe that Earth has good people here. We can show the Divine
Creator that there are enough of us here who truly want to evolve and become
what we were intended to be.

I have been told that help is being sent to us. We can help create a
miracle. My son is now running out in the yard, delighting in his life. A
miracle saved him.

This gift of Divine energy, and our willingness to help make it happen,
will save us all. Please join us on July 17, 2007, at 11:11 A.M.
Greenwich Mean Time, to bring the power of God's Love to us all. In choosing
to participate, you will be defining your intentions to the Universe
and you will also be defined as a Human who desires positive change for
this planet.

Be defined and ignite a beacon of Light in your soul, so that we may be
recognized by the world, the Universe and each other.

Hi everyone,

I just stumbled on this book review in amazon.com. The book is by Lynne McTaggart. It looks right up our alley! Let us know if any of you takes it on. (I'm swamped with other stuff right now.)

Book Description
The book you hold in your hands is revolutionary, a groundbreaking exploration of the science of intention. It is also the first book to invite you, the reader, to take an active part in its original research. Drawing on the findings of leading scientists on human consciousness from around the world, The Intention Experiment demonstrates that thought is a thing that affects other things. Thought generates its own palpable energy that you can use to improve your life, to help others around you, and to change the world.

In The Intention Experiment, internationally bestselling author Lynne McTaggart, an award-winning science journalist and leading figure in the human consciousness studies community, presents a gripping scientific detective story and takes you on a mind-blowing journey to the farthest reaches of consciousness. She profiles the colorful pioneers in intention science and works with a team of renowned scientists from around the world, including physicist Fritz-Albert Popp of the International Institute of Biophysics and Dr. Gary Schwartz, professor of psychology, medicine, and neurology at the University of Arizona, to determine the effects of focused group intention on scientifically quantifiable targets -- animal, plant, and human.

The Intention Experiment builds on the discoveries of McTaggart's first book, international bestseller The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe, which documented discoveries that point to the existence of a quantum energy field. The Field created a picture of an interconnected universe and a scientific explanation for many of the most profound human mysteries, from alternative medicine and spiritual healing to extrasensory perception and the collective unconscious. The Intention Experiment shows you myriad ways that all this information can be incorporated into your life.

After narrating the exciting developments in the science of intention, McTaggart offers a practical program to get in touch with your own thoughts, to increase the activity and strength of your intentions, and to begin achieving real change in your life. After you've begun to realize the amazing potential of focused intention, and the times when it is most powerful, McTaggart invites you to participate in an unprecedented experiment: Using The Intention Experiment website to coordinate your involvement and track results, you and other participants around the world will focus your power of intention on specific targets, giving you the opportunity to become a part of scientific history.

The Intention Experiment redefines what a book does. It is the first "living" book in three dimensions. The book's text and website are inextricably linked, forming the hub of an entirely self-funded research program, the ultimate aim of which is philanthropic. An original piece of scientific investigation that involves the reader in its quest, The Intention Experiment explores human thought and intention as a tangible energy -- an inexhaustible but simple resource with an awesome potential to focus our lives, heal our illnesses, clean up our communities, and improve the planet.

The Intention Experiment also forces you to rethink what it is to be human. As it proves, we're connected to everyone and everything, and that discovery demands that we pay better attention to our thoughts, intentions, and actions.

I found this message this morning and love it! It's just what I needed right now! Check it out:

Life on this planet is a mess right now, and there is a good reason for it. Perhaps your life is a mess on a personal level, too. If so, do not despair. There is a good reason for that, too.

Conversations with God says that the moment you decide about anything, everything unlike it comes into the space. This is the Law of Opposites, playing itself out in a big way. If you do not understand this law, you will not understand what is going on around you, and you will become very discouraged, disheartened, disillusioned, and despairing. Only if you are clear that the World Opposing You is really the Universe Agreeing With You can you avoid these emotional pitfalls.

"That is what evolution calls upon us to be. Clear. Conscious. Aware."
“The World Opposing You is the Universe Agreeing With You” is another way of saying that Macro.

Truth Differs from Micro Reality. Yet it is the difference which makes Macro Truth possible to experience. Without Differences, Absolutes are impossible to Experience. That is because there is Absolutely Nothing Else. And Conversations with God makes it clear that “in the absence of That Which You Are Not, That Which You ARE…Is NOT.”

In the absence of “cold,” “hot” is not. In the absence of “up,” “down” is not. In the absence of “good,” “bad” is not.

And vice-versa.

This is the Law of Opposites, and it cannot be ignored in the physical world, or what CwG calls “the Realm of the Relative.” Only in the Realm of the Absolute can the Law of Opposites be overcome. Yet that does not mean that while we are with our physical bodies we must be miserable. It merely means we must be clear. We must be conscious. We must be aware.

That is what evolution calls upon us to be. Clear. Conscious. Aware.

We must also be willing. We are as a magician who is playing with his own tricks, and we must be willing to play by the rules of the game. We must know and understand that while what is going on looks very real, it is a trick. It is a trick of the reality in which we live. And so we are to not believe a moment of it. This is going to be very difficult, especially when things are going very badly, because it can all seem very real.

It is very real, within the limited vision of our narrow perspective. Only when you stand back and see the grand view can you even begin to understand. Only when you step back far enough to see the entire tapestry can you see the wonder of its weavings—which look, up close, like a total mess.
Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross had a wonderful and picturesque way of stating this principle: Should you shield the canyons from the windstorms, you would never see the beauty of their carvings.

You must understand that you live in two realities. There are really two versions of you. There is Macro You (sometimes called Big Self) and there is Micro You (Little Self). Another way of putting this is that there is Universal Self and Local Self. The part of You that is far away can see the entire tapestry. The part of You that is localized is up close, with your face right on the surface of the tapestry. All you can see are the micro-interweavings of the threads. You see things on the surface, and on the surface of things, they do not look very pretty.

If you can step back right now, if you will just step back and look at things from a distance, you will be able to see things from a larger perspective—the larger perspective of your entire life—from which you will be able to see and understand exactly why that thread is going that certain way.

I want to give you an example from my own life. The other night I gave a wonderful talk in Ft. Collins, Colorado. I won’t even try to be modest about it. I was really on my game. I was up to the task. I was in the zone. And when I got off stage I said to myself, “Wow, now that’s Who I Really Am!”

Then I got back to my hotel room, opened my email, and found some very unwelcome news. Immediately I was disheartened, upset, beside myself. I mean to say that I was literally that. I was beside my Self. My Self, my True Self, was watching all of this and wondering when my False Self, my Little Self, was going to “get it.” As soon as I declare myself to be anything, everything unlike it will come into the room.

That is a wonderful statement, and I want you to memorize it and use it often in your life. “This gift is too big to see up close.”
It has to. It must. Otherwise, I cannot experience Who I Really Am. Because if “cold” were not part of the experience, “hot” could never be. That is why all Masters have said, “Judge not, and neither condemn.” My job in that moment was to not judge the content of that email, but to praise it. For the real issue in my life is not whether I am demonstrating Who I Am when I am in front of an audience, but when I am alone; not only when things are going well, but when they are not; not just when I am on top of the world, but when I have hit bottom.

When I step back far enough to see the gift in the contents of that email, I step back far enough to receive it. For the gift is way too big to see up close.

That is a wonderful statement, and I want you to memorize it and use it often in your life. “This gift is too big to see up close.”

When I enlarge my perspective, I alter my perception, seeing things that I could not previously see. This is what is meant by, “Once I was blind, but now I see.”

Then the next question will be, will I believe what I see? Will I believe that I am Who I Really Am? Every outward evidence will be to the contrary. Yet it is not with my outer sight, but with my inner sight, that I must look at the image of my Self that is right in front of me. Not with my two eyes, but with my third eye. Then I have insight, and I see things differently. Not only the Self, but all with which I have surrounded the Self. All the conditions, circumstances, situations, people, places, and events. Then, my world itself changes. Then, believing is seeing.

What are you believing when you are seeing what you are seeing around you? If you changed your belief, would what you are seeing look a different way? Would IN-sight create a new OUT-look?

The answer is yes.

Of course, you cannot pretend that what you are looking at is not there. That would be crazy, and it would make you crazy. But you can see its “thereness” in a new way. You can decide that you put it there. Then you will stop seeing yourself as the “victim” of it, and begin looking at why you put it there.

What is it you are trying to tell yourself? What is it about your Self that you are trying to remember?

What is it you are trying to remember right now, as you are reading this? Who do you think put this here before you?

Love and hugs . . . Neale

I think this is a no-brainer. It costs nothing. The company is
very new (six weeks), they pay you to surf in stock and in profit
sharing. When they go public, you can sell back to the company
or sell on the market. If you choose to invite others to join, you
are paid for their participation as well. Please read the site.
My sceptical mind cannot find anything problematic...

I recently joined AGLOCO because of a friend recommended it to me.
I am now offering it to you because I like the idea and I want you to
share in what I think will be an exciting new Internet concept.

AGLOCO’s story is simple:

Do you realize how valuable you are? Advertisers, search
providers and online retailers are paying billions to reach you
while you surf. How much of that money are you making? NONE!

AGLOCO thinks you deserve a piece of the action.

AGLOCO collects money from those companies on behalf of
its members. (For example, Google currently pays AOL 10 cents
for every Google search by an AOL user. And Google still has
enough profit to pay $1.6 billion dollars for YouTube, an
18-month old site full of content that YouTube’s users did
not get paid for!

AGLOCO will work to get its Members their share of this and more.

AGLOCO is building a new form of online community that they
call an Economic Network. They are not only paying Members their
fair share, but they’re building a community that will generate the kind
of fortune that YouTube. But instead of that wealth making only a few
people rich, the entire community will get its share.

What's the catch? No catch - no spyware, no pop-ups and no
spam - membership and software are free and AGLOCO is
100% member owned. Privacy is a core value and AGLOCO
never sells or rents member information.

So do both both of us a favor: Sign up for AGLOCO right now!

Mindfulness approaches are not considered relaxation or mood management techniques however, but rather a form of mental training to reduce cognitive vulnerability to reactive modes of mind that might otherwise heighten stress and emotional distress, or that may otherwise perpetuate psychopathology.[1] The cultivation and practice of mindfulness through this program of mental training is thus thought to mediate observed effects on mood and behaviour (Kabat-Zinn, 1990) but these speculations remain yet untested and thus unsubstantiated.

Although mindfulness has been described by a number of investigators (Kabat-Zinn, 1990, 1998; Shapiro & Swartz, 1999, 2000; Teasdale, 1999b; Segal et al., 2002), the field has thus far proceeded in the absence of an operational definition (Bishop, 2002). There have been no systematic efforts to establish the defining criteria of its various components or to specify implicated psychological processes, and general descriptions of mindfulness have not been entirely consistent across investigators. As long as fundamental questions concerning construct specificity and operational definitions remain unaddressed it is not possible to undertake important investigations into the mediating role and mechanisms of action of mindfulness, or to develop instruments that allow such investigations to proceed. Thus we must move toward a definition that is more precise and that specifies testable theoretical predictions for the purpose of validation and refinement.

In response to this need for greater precision and specificity, a series of meetings were held to establish a consensus on the various components of mindfulness, to conjointly develop operational definitions, and to generate testable predictions for validation. This paper presents the consensus emerging from those meetings. The overall goal is produce an operational definition that, as a starting point, can be adopted by the field. We propose this operational definition in the hopes that it will stimulate investigation and theoretical development so that we can have a better understanding of mindfulness and mindfulness approaches to psychological treatment.

Methods for Elicitation and Description of the Phenomenon
Although various meditation practices are taught in mindfulness approaches to treatment, they are similar in their basic procedures and goals. A description of sitting meditation will illustrate the basic approach. The client maintains an upright sitting posture, either in a chair or cross-legged on the floor, and attempts to maintain attention on a particular focus, most commonly the somatic sensations of his or her own breathing. Whenever attention wanders from the breath to inevitable thoughts and feelings that arise, the client will simply take notice of them and then let them go as attention is returned to the breath. This process is repeated each time that attention wanders away from the breath. As sitting meditation is practiced, there is an emphasis on simply taking notice of whatever the mind happens to wander to and accepting each object[2] without making judgments about it, elaborating on its implications, additional meanings, or need for action (Kabat-Zinn, 1990; Segal et al., 2002). The client is further encouraged to use the same general approach outside of his or her formal meditation practice as much as possible by bringing awareness back to the here and now during the course of their day, using the breath as an anchor, whenever they notice that their attention has become focused on streams of thoughts, worries or ruminations, or a general lack of awareness.

These procedures ostensibly lead to a state of mindfulness. Broadly conceptualized, mindfulness has been described as a kind of non-elaborative, non-judgmental, present-centered awareness in which each thought, feeling or sensation that arises in the attentional field is acknowledged and accepted as it is (Kabat-Zinn, 1990, 1998; Shapiro & Schwartz, 1999, 2000; Teasdale, 1999b; Segal et al., 2002). In a state of mindfulness, thoughts and feelings are observed as events in the mind, without over-identifying with them, and without reacting to them in an automatic, habitual pattern of reactivity. This dispassionate state of self-observation is thought to introduce a ‘space’ between one’s perception and response. Thus mindfulness is thought to enable one to respond to situations more reflectively (as opposed to reflexively).

Our Consensus on an Operational Definition
We propose a two-component model of mindfulness. The first component involves the self-regulation of attention so that it is maintained on immediate experience, thereby allowing for increased recognition of mental events in the present moment. The second component involves adopting a particular orientation toward one’s experiences in the present moment, an orientation that is characterized by curiosity, openness and acceptance. We will now describe each component in terms of behavioural and experiential features and in terms of the implicated psychological processes.

Self-Regulation of Attention
Mindfulness begins by bringing awareness to current experience - observing and attending to the changing field of thoughts, feelings and sensations from moment to moment - by regulating the focus of attention. This leads to a feeling of being very alert to what is occurring in the here and now. It is often described as a feeling of being fully present and alive in the moment. Skills in sustained attention would be required to maintain an awareness of current experience. Sustained attention refers to the ability to maintain a state of vigilance over prolonged periods of time (Parasuraman, 1998; Posner & Rothbart, 1991). Sustained attention on the breath thus keeps attention anchored in current experience so that thoughts, feelings and sensations can be detected as they arise in the stream of consciousness. Skills in switching allow the student to bring attention back to the breath once a thought, feeling or sensation has been acknowledged. Switching involves flexibility of attention so that one can shift the focus from one object to another (Jersild, 1927; Posner, 1980). Thus one of the predictions of this model is that the development of mindfulness would be associated with improvements in sustained attention and switching, which can be objectively measured using standard vigilance tests (e.g., Klee & Garfinkel, 1983) and tasks that require shifting mental set (Rogers & Monsell, 1995), respectively.

The self-regulation of attention also fosters non-elaborative awareness of thoughts, feelings and sensations as they arise. Rather than getting caught up in ruminative, elaborative thought streams about one’s experience, its origins, implications and associations, mindfulness involves a direct experience of events in the mind and body (Teasdale et al., 1994). Note that mindfulness is not a practice in thought suppression; all thoughts or events are considered an object of observation, not a distraction. However, once acknowledged, attention is directed back to the breath thus preventing further elaboration. This is thought to inhibit secondary elaborative processing of the thoughts, feelings and sensations that arise in the stream of consciousness. Thus, mindfulness practices are though to be associated with improvements in cognitive inhibition, particularly at the level of stimulus selection. This can be objectively measured using tasks that require the inhibition of semantic processing (e.g., emotional Stroop: Williams, Mathews, & MacLeod, 1996).

Furthermore, because attention has a limited capacity (Schneider & Shiffrin, 1977), when it is released from elaborative thinking more resources are made available to process information related to current experience. This increases access to information that might otherwise remain outside awareness resulting in a wider perspective on experience. Rather than observing experience through the filter of our beliefs, assumptions, expectations and desires, mindfulness involves a direct observation of various objects as if for the first time, a quality that is often referred to as ‘beginners mind.’ This ability can be measured on tasks in which successful performance depends on detecting stimuli in unexpected settings (e.g., Henderson, Weeks, & Hollingworth, 1999). The prediction is that mindfulness practice should facilitate identification of objects in unexpected contexts because one would not bring preconceived beliefs about what should or should not be present.

In summary, we propose that mindfulness can be defined, in part, as the self-regulation of attention, which involves sustained attention, attention switching, and inhibition of elaborative processing. In this context, mindfulness can be considered a metacognitive skill (cognition about one’s cognition, Flavell, 1979). Metacognition is thought to consist of two related processes - monitoring and control (Nelson, Stuart, Howard, & Crowley, 1999; Schraw & Moshman, 1995). The notion of mindfulness as a metacognitive process is implicit in the operational definition that we are proposing since its evocation would require both control of cognitive processes (i.e., attention self-regulation) and monitoring the stream of consciousness as is explicated more fully below.

Orientation to Experience

Mindfulness is further defined by an orientation to experience that is adopted and cultivated in mindfulness meditation practices. This orientation begins with making a commitment to maintain an attitude of curiosity about where the mind wanders whenever it inevitably drifts away from the breath, as well as curiosity about the different objects within one’s experience at any moment. All thoughts, feelings and sensations that arise are initially seen as relevant, and therefore, subject to observation. The client is thus not trying to produce a particular state, such as relaxation, or change what he or she is feeling in any way. Rather, the client is instructed to make an effort to just take notice of each thought, feeling and sensation that arises in the stream of consciousness.

In this manner, a stance of acceptance is taken toward each moment of one’s experience. Acceptance is defined as being experientially open to the reality of the present moment (Roemer & Orsillo, 2002). It involves a conscious decision to abandon one’s agenda to have a different experience and an active process of ‘allowing’ current thoughts, feelings and sensations (Hayes, Strosahl & Willson, 1999). It is an active process in that the client chooses to take what is offered with an attitude of openness and receptivity to whatever happens to occur in the field of awareness. Thus mindfulness can be conceptualized as a process of relating openly with experience.

There are several predictions based on this model. First, adopting a stance of curiosity and acceptance during mindfulness practices should eventually lead to reductions in the use of cognitive and behavioural strategies to avoid aspects of experience. Measures of repressive coping style (e.g., Miller Behavioural Style Scale; Miller, 1980; Miller & Mangan, 1983), as well as more general coping measures (e.g., Ways of Coping Questionnaire; Folkman & Lazarus, 1988), may have some utility to test this prediction. Also, with time, the practice of mindfulness would likely increase dispositional openness, a trait that is characterized by curiosity and receptivity to new experiences (Costa & McCrae, 1987). Further, adopting a stance of acceptance toward painful or unpleasant thoughts and feelings would be expected to change the psychological context in which those objects are now experienced (see Hayes, Wilson, Gifford, Follette, & Strosahl, 1996; Hayes et al., 1999). In essence, emotional distress would be experienced as less unpleasant and threatening since the context of acceptance changes their subjective meaning. This would likely lead to improved affect tolerance, which can be measured with proximate measures such as the Anxiety Sensitivity Index (Peterson & Reiss, 1992, 1993).

Approaching one’s experience with an orientation of curiosity and acceptance, regardless of valence or desirability, sets the stage for intensive self-observation. Mindfulness can thus be further conceptualized as a process of investigative awareness that involves observing the ever-changing flow of private experience. The term ‘investigative’ refers to an intentional effort to observe and gain a greater understanding of the nature of thoughts and feelings. The client is instructed to make an effort to notice each object in the stream of consciousness (e.g., a feeling), to discriminate between different elements of experience (e.g., an emotional “feeling” sensation from a physical “touch” sensation) and observe how one experience gives rise to another (e.g., a feeling evoking a judgmental thought, and then, the judgmental thought heightening the unpleasantness of the feeling).

Monitoring of the stream of consciousness in this manner over time would likely lead to increased cognitive complexity as reflected by an ability to generate differentiated and integrated representations of cognitive and affective experience. For example, the development of mindfulness would likely result in a greater capacity to distinguish feelings from bodily sensations unrelated to emotional arousal and to understand and describe the complex nature of emotional states. Thus, mindfulness would be positively correlated with measures of emotional awareness (e.g., Levels of Emotional Awareness Scale; Lane, Quinlan, Swartz, Walker & Zeitlin, 1990) and negatively correlated with measures of alexithymia (e.g., Toronto Alexithymia Scale; Bagby, Parker & Taylor, 1994). Similarly, the development of mindfulness would likely be associated with a greater capacity to see relationships between thoughts, feelings and actions and to discern the meanings and causes of experience and behaviour. Thus mindfulness would be positively correlated with measures of psychological mindedness (e.g., Psychological Mindedness Scale; Conte & Ratto, 1997).

Further, mindfulness practices provide opportunities to gain insight into the nature of thoughts and feelings as passing events in the mind rather than inherent aspects of the self or valid reflections on reality (Teasdale et al., 1995; Teasdale, 1999a, 1999b; Segal et al., 2002). Coding procedures used to assess the complexity of cognitive representations in self-narratives (e.g., Labouvie-Vief, Chiodo, Goguen, Diehl & Orwoll, 1995) and autobiographical recall (e.g., Moore, Hayhurst & Teasdale, 1996) would be useful paradigms to test these hypotheses. Mindfulness would likely be associated with more complex descriptions of one’s thoughts as contextual, relativistic, transient and subjective and there is now some evidence to support this hypothesis (Teasdale, Moore, Hayhurst, Pope, Williams & Segal, 2002).

In summary, we see mindfulness as a process of regulating attention to bring a quality of non-elaborative awareness to current experience and a quality of relating to one’s experience within an orientation of curiosity, experiential openness and acceptance. We further see mindfulness as a process of gaining insight into the nature of one’s mind and the adoption of a de-centered perspective (Safran & Segal, 1990) on thoughts and feelings so that they can be experienced in terms of their subjectivity (versus their necessary validity) and transient nature (versus their permanence).

Temporal Stability and Situational Specificity
We propose that mindfulness is a mode of awareness that is evoked when attention is regulated in the manner described. We use the term ‘mode’ to refer to a state-like quality. We prefer the term ‘mode’ to ‘state.’ The term ‘mode’ is defined as “the manner or way in which a thing is done” (Oxford English Dictionary, 2nd Edition, 1989). This definition captures our belief that mindfulness is a psychological process. Mindfulness is therefore similar to a skill that can be developed with practice. We see it as much closer to a state than a trait because we believe that its evocation and maintenance is dependent on the regulation of attention while cultivating an open orientation to experience. As long as attention is purposely brought to experience in the manner described, mindfulness will be maintained, and when attention is no longer regulated in this manner, mindfulness will cease.

Although mindfulness-based interventions rely on meditation techniques to teach the necessary skills for evoking mindfulness, we hypothesize that this mode of awareness is not limited to meditation. Once the skills are learned, attention can be regulated to evoke mindfulness in many situations thus allowing the student to skillfully respond to situations that provoke emotional reactions. Further, there has been some speculation that effective psychotherapy may also enhance the capacity to evoke and utilize mindfulness to gain insight and alternate responses to subjective inner experiences (e.g., Martin, 1997; 2002; Horowitz, 2002; Muran, 2002). If mindfulness is indeed a mode of awareness that can be developed as part of the process of psychotherapy, then the theoretical and heuristic value of the operational definition that we are proposing may not be limited only to meditation-based interventions, but may make important contributions to the psychotherapy outcome literature as well.

Alternative Conceptualizations

While the operational definition that we propose is consistent with the general descriptions of mindfulness in the literature, there have been a number of other qualities or components discussed that we have not included in our own definition. In our view, many of the qualities or components that have been discussed are more likely outcomes of having learned mindfulness skills, or maintained a mindfulness practice over time, rather than implicit in the construct. Most notably, mindfulness has been previously described as embodying qualities such as patience (allowing things to unfold in their own time), trust (confidence in the ability to stay in contact with private experience), non-reactivity (calmness), wisdom (self-knowledge) and compassion (empathy for oneself) (e.g., Kabat-Zinn, 1990, 1998; Shapiro & Swartz, 1999, 2000; Reibel et al., 2001). In addition to the theoretical importance of separating the central features of mindfulness from common correlates, at a pragmatic level a definition that confounds operational features with potential benefits reduces the utility of the construct.

Conceptual and Operational Distinctiveness

There are a number of constructs that may be within the same general domain as mindfulness as elicited by mindfulness meditation techniques. Most notably is Ellen Langer’s work in social psychology on mindfulness as a creative cognitive process. While both constructs involve attentional engagement, we agree with Langer that her construct is quite different from mindfulness as described in the context of the mindfulness meditation techniques (see Langer, 1989). Langer’s mindfulness involves the active construction of new categories and meanings when one pays attention to the stimulus properties of primarily external situations, while our own definition emphasizes the inhibition of such elaborative processes as one pays attention to primarily internal stimuli (thoughts, feelings and sensations). Other similar constructs that might fall within the same general domain of mindfulness include flow (Csikszentmihalyi, 1997) and absorption (Tellegan & Atkinson, 1974).

We also see mindfulness within the general domain of constructs that describe the ability to observe the temporal stream of thoughts and feelings including introspection (James, 1890), observing self (Deikman, 1982), presence (Bugental, 1987), reflective functioning (Fonagy & Target, 1996; 1997) and deautomatization/decentering (Safran and Segal, 1990). Although these various constructs have not always been well developed conceptually, and few have been explicitly operationalized, each has generally been described as a process of stepping outside of the automated mode of perceptual processing and attending to the minute details of mental activity that might otherwise escape awareness. These constructs are also variously described as a process of ‘freeing up of attention’ so that it is non-biased and exploratory (see Martin, 1997). Other related constructs, variously labeled psychological mindedness (Conte & Ratto, 1997; McCallum & Piper, 1987), insight (Tolor & Reznikoff, 1960) and self-awareness (Fingarette, 1963), deal more with the capacity to see relationships among thoughts, feelings and actions, and to understand the meanings and causes of experiences and behaviour. Although these latter constructs also involve self-observation, they emphasize the ability to construct increasingly complex mental representations of one’s own (and possibly, others’) mind and behaviour.

Mindfulness, as we have defined it, is likely much closer conceptually and operationally to those constructs that involve a process of self-observation (i.e., introspection, observing self, reflective functioning) than self-knowledge per se (i.e., psychological mindedness, insight and self-awareness). Those that involve self-knowledge likely reflect the outcome of practicing many forms of intensive self-observation over time, whether from a daily practice of meditation or from psychotherapy, and are therefore probably distinct from the methods used to obtain them.

Yet the definition of mindfulness that we are proposing describes a quality of self-focused attention characterized by openness and acceptance of experience that is not articulated in the descriptions of these other constructs involving self-observation. This distinction is important because there is considerable evidence that certain forms of self-focused attention can exacerbate distress and heighten or maintain psychopathology (e.g., Pyszcynski & Greenberg, 1987; Nolen-Hoeksema, 1991), while other modes of awareness lead to a more adaptive self-focused style (Trapnell & Campbell, 1999). The question of whether mindfulness is distinct from these other constructs is ultimately an empirical one. However, we do not currently see mindfulness as redundant with other constructs describing intentional self-focused attention.

Broadening the Conceptual Model

Situating mindfulness within a more elaborated conceptual model will further elucidate the central features of this construct as it is applied in clinical practice. Our conceptualization draws heavily on self-regulation models of cognition and mood (Carver & Scheier, 1981; 1990) and contemporary cognitive models of psychopathology. Although speculative, we feel that this kind of theorizing is necessary but neglected in discussions of mindfulness.

According to a self-regulation model, much of cognition occurs in the service of goals. We are constantly engaged in a process of comparing what is with what is desired and much of our mental life and behavioural organization functions in the service of reducing any discrepancies (Miller, Galanter & Pribraum, 1960; Powers, 1973; Carver & Scheier, 1981; 1990). When there is a discrepancy, negative affect occurs (e.g., fear, frustration) setting in motion cognitive and behavioural sequences in an attempt to move the current state of affairs closer to one’s goals, desires and preferences (Carver & Scheier, 1990). If the discrepancy is reduced, then the mind can exit this mode and a feeling of well-being will follow until another discrepancy is detected again setting this sequence in motion.

When goals cannot be met, and especially if the goal is afforded high value, then the mind will continue to dwell on the discrepancy and search for possible ways to reduce it giving rise to rumination (Martin & Tesser, 1996). Rumination appears to play a central role in exacerbating negative affect. For example, the tendency to worry seems to reflect attempts to plan for and develop potential strategies for avoiding anticipated future negative events, but can lead to the maintenance or heightening of anxiety (Borkovec, Shadick & Hopkins, 1991; Wells, 1999). Similarly, depressive rumination appears to reflect attempts to change aspects of one’s assumed basic faults (Nolen-Hoeksema, 1991), or alternately, to regain something that has been lost and is of central importance to the person’s sense of identity or worth (Pyszcynski & Greenberg; 1987). It is now well established that these patterns of ruminative thinking can escalate a spiraling cycle of dysphoric affect that can lead eventually to a major depressive episode (Pyszcynski & Greenberg; 1987; Teasdale & Bernard, 1993; Nolen-Hoeksema, 1991). It is also assumed that rumination will continue until the person either satisfies or gives up the goal (Martin & Tesser, 1989). Thus disengaging from one’s goals should facilitate the release from ruminative thinking and thus reduce cognitive vulnerably to certain forms of psychopathology.

As discussed, mindfulness approaches teach the client to become more aware of thoughts and feelings and to relate to them in a wider, decentered, perspective as transient mental events rather than reflections of the self or necessarily accurate reflections on reality. Thus, if self-devaluative, hopeless thoughts are recognized as simply thoughts, the student will be better able to disengage from them since no action will be required (i.e., since the thoughts are not ‘real’ there is no goal to obtain and thus no need to ruminate to find a solution). The reduction in ruminative thinking that is predicted to occur by adopting a decentered perspective might explain why mindfulness training reduces the risk of relapse in recurrent major depression (Teasdale et al., 2000). A similar model has recently been suggested for reducing cognitive vulnerability to generalized anxiety disorder (Roemer & Orsillo, 2002).

The acceptance-based component of mindfulness approaches further offer an alternative strategy for dealing with aspects of unwanted private experience, and thus an opportunity to become less prone to being drawn into dysfunction patterns of behaviour that exacerbates or maintains psychopathology. As Hayes and his colleagues convincingly argue, most forms of psychopathology involves, in some way or another, the presence of intolerance with aspects of private experience and patterns of experiential avoidance as an attempt to escape private experience (see Hayes et al., 1996, for evidence supporting this view). They further cite substantial evidence that the most effective psychological treatments tend to undermine experiential avoidance in some way by exposing patients to aspects of feared or dreaded private experience, either behaviourally (e.g., desensitization for anxiety disorders) or by encouraging them to stay in touch with painful or frightening feelings and thoughts in psychotherapy.

Mindfulness approaches encourage patients to step out of the war with their thoughts and feelings and give up ineffective experiential avoidance strategies. The approach thus focuses on altering the impact of, and response to, thoughts, feelings and sensations. The general orientation of mindfulness approaches is on helping clients to stay in contact with private experiences so that they can behave more effectively. Mindfulness approaches may thus be particularly effective for clinical syndromes in which intolerance of negative affect and subsequent behavioural avoidance plays a central role, and there is some evidence to support this assertion. For example, MBSR has been shown to reduce the frequency of panic attacks and avoidance in panic disorder (Miller et al., 1995), binge-eating episodes associated with eating disorders (Kristheller & Hallett, 1999) and avoidance of activity in chronic pain thus reducing disability (Kabat-Zinn et al., 1985; 1987). Similarly, dialectical behaviour therapy, which incorporates mindfulness training, reduces self-mutilation and suicidal behaviour associated with borderline personality disorder (Linehan et al., 1991), probably by helping patients to build affect tolerance.

Mindfulness can therefore be further conceptualized as a clinical approach to foster an alternative method for responding to one’s stress and emotional distress. By becoming more aware of thoughts and feelings, relating to them in a wider, decentered field of awareness, and purposefully opening fully to one’s experience, dysfunctional change agendas can be abandoned and more adaptive strategies adopted. As several recent investigators have recognized (e.g., Linehan, 1993; Teasdale et al., 1995; Marlat, 2002; Roemer & Orsillo, 2002), the concept of mindfulness can be theoretically integrated with current models of psychopathology and thus can lead to new innovations in treatment.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[1] Discussions of this approach carefully discriminate between ‘mindfulness meditation’ and ‘concentration’ forms of meditation that induce deep states of relaxation. Concentration meditation involves restricting the focus of attention to a single stimulus such as a word, sound or sensation. When attention wanders, it is redirected back to that single stimulus. No attention is paid to the nature of the distraction. In contrast, mindfulness meditation involves observation of constantly changing internal and external stimuli as they arise. An excellent scholarly discussion of the differences in the goals and methods of these major classes of meditation techniques can be found in Naranjo & Ornstein (1971).

[2] We use the term object to refer to any stimulus that attention might become involved with including sensations, thoughts and feelings as well as environmental stimuli such as sounds.

HO'OPONOPONO by Joe Vitale

"Two years ago, I heard about a therapist in Hawaii who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients--without ever seeing any of them. The psychologist would study an inmate's chart and then look within himself to see how he created that person's illness. As he improved himself, the patient improved.

"When I first heard this story, I thought it was an urban legend. How could anyone heal anyone else by healing himself? How could even the best self-improvement master cure the criminally insane? It didn't make any sense. It wasn't logical, so I dismissed the story.

"However, I heard it again a year later. I heard that the therapist had used a Hawaiian healing process called ho 'oponopono. I had never heard of it, yet I couldn't let it leave my mind. If the story was at all true, I had to know more. I had always understood "total
responsibility" to mean that I am responsible for what I think and do.
Beyond that, it's out of my hands. I think that most people think of total responsibility that way. We're responsible for what we do, not what anyone else does--but that's wrong.

"The Hawaiian therapist who healed those mentally ill people would teach me an advanced new perspective about total responsibility. His name is Dr. Ihaleakala Hew Len. We probably spent an hour talking on our first phone call. I asked him to tell me the complete story of his work as a therapist.

He explained that he worked at Hawaii State Hospital for four years.
That ward where they kept the criminally insane was dangerous.
Psychologists quit on a monthly basis. The staff called in sick a lot or simply quit. People would walk through that ward with their backs against the wall, afraid of being attacked bypatients. It was not a pleasant place to live, work, or visit.

"Dr. Len told me that he never saw patients. He agreed to have an office and to review their files. While he looked at those files, he would work on himself. As he worked on himself, patients began to heal.

"'After a few months, patients that had to be shackled were being allowed to walk freely,' he told me. 'Others who had to be heavily medicated were getting off their medications. And those who had no chance of ever being released were being freed.' I was in awe.'Not only that,' he went on, 'but the staff began to enjoy coming to work.

Absenteeism and turnover disappeared. We ended up with more staff than we needed because patients were being released, and all the staff was showing up to work. Today, that ward is closed.'

"This is where I had to ask the million dollar question: 'What were you doing within yourself that caused those people to change?'

"'I was simply healing the part of me that created them,' he said. I didn't understand. Dr. Len explained that total responsibility for your life means that everything in your life- simply because it is in your life--is your responsibility. In a literal sense the entire world is your creation.

"Whew. This is tough to swallow. Being responsible for what I say or do is one thing. Being responsible for what everyone in my life says or does is quite another. Yet, the truth is this: if you take complete responsibility for your life, then everything you see, hear, taste, touch, or in any way experience is your responsibility because it is in your life. This means that terrorist activity, the president, the economy or anything you experience and don't
like--is up for you to heal. They don't exist, in a manner of speaking, except as projections from inside you. The problem isn't with them, it's with you, and to change them, you have to change you.

"I know this is tough to grasp, let alone accept or actually live. Blame is far easier than total responsibility, but as I spoke with Dr.
Len, I began to realize that healing for him and in ho 'oponopono means loving yourself.

"If you want to improve your life, you have to heal your life. If you want to cure anyone, even a mentally ill criminal you do it by healing you.

"I asked Dr. Len how he went about healing himself. What was he doing, exactly, when he looked at those patients' files?

"'I just kept saying, 'I'm sorry' and 'I love you' over and over again,' he
explained.

"That's it?

"That's it.

"Turns out that loving yourself is the greatest way to improve yourself, and as you improve yourself, you improve your world.

"Let me give you a quick example of how this works: one day, someone sent me an email that upset me. In the past I would have handled it by working on my emotional hot buttons or by trying to reason with the person who sent the nasty message.

"This time, I decided to try Dr. Len's method. I kept silently saying, 'I'm sorry' and 'I love you,' I didn't say it to anyone in particular. I was simply evoking the spirit of love to heal within me what was creating the outer circumstance.

"Within an hour I got an e-mail from the same person. He apologized for his previous message. Keep in mind that I didn't take any outward action to get that apology. I didn't even write him back. Yet, by saying 'I love you,' I somehow healed within me what was creating him.

"I later attended a ho 'oponopono workshop run by Dr. Len. He's now 70 years old, considered a grandfatherly shaman, and is somewhat reclusive.

He praised my book, The Attractor Factor. He told me that as I improve myself, my book's vibration will raise, and everyone will feel it when they read it. In short, as I improve, my readers will improve.

"'What about the books that are already sold and out there?' I asked.

"'They aren't out there,' he explained, once again blowing my mind with his mystic wisdom. 'They are still in you.' In short, there is no out there. It would take a whole book to explain this advanced technique with the depth it deserves.

"Suffice It to say that whenever you want to improve anything in your life, there's only one place to look: inside you. When you look, do it with love."

July 22nd is the most auspicious day in 2006. Primarily it is a Pradosham Day (13th Moon). Pradosham is the time during which Siva removes the bad karma of people. Bad karma is responsible for failure, disappointment, difficulties, disease, etc. Pradosham occurs twice a month. If Pradosham falls on a Saturday it is very special Pradosham, triple more powerful than Pradosham on other days. The 22nd of July happens to be a Saturday Pradosham time. Also, it is a mini-Sivaratri day. Sivaratri means the night of Siva that gives us Enlightenment. Mini Sivaratri although it occurs one a month, it doesn’t coincide with the birthstar of Siva, Arudra. It also falls on the 22nd on July. This combination will not happen for many hundreds of years.

Erasing Personal History and Dreaming the New Dream

by José Stevens, Ph.D.

Attachment to personal history is the most restricting obstacle that confronts people as they aim to become free human beings. Interestingly, mostly older souls are the only ones actually interested in personal freedom and even there is resistance to letting their histories go. Younger souls give lip service to freedom but through their actions demonstrate that they do not actually want it. That is why they tend to attach themselves to their addictions, belongings, status, power, cravings, rules, dogmas and beliefs. They gladly allow these things to own and imprison them yet complain vociferously at the mere hint of disengaging from any one of these.
In order to understand "freedom from history" we must first describe what it means to erase it. Personal history consists of every memory that you have gained thus far in your life, conscious and not conscious. It is the memory of people, events, places, and experiences recorded through your five senses and your positive or negative evaluation of them. These memories chained together form your story, your identity, your personal dream that entwines constantly with the mass dream that humanity is collectively dreaming. It is possible to erase the load of emotion that this history carries, to render it neutral. That is what we mean by erasing it, a discipline that results in the shamanic notion of freedom.
The Collective Dream
According to shamanic and Taoist thought, the collective dream is also called the material universe and the source of this dream is the Tao, spirit or creator of all things. The Tao is not, however, attached to these dreams. You could say that the Tao, or creator, gave birth to the dreamers and then began watching with interest what they would dream. The dreamers of course are all the bits and pieces of the physical plane. Each bit and piece has the power to dream at different levels of sophistication. Obviously a rock dream is not quite as elaborate as the dream of a butterfly, and the dream of a butterfly is eclipsed in complexity by the dream of a dog. The most sophisticated dreamers are sentient beings like human beings. They are capable of dreaming up incredible things. Unfortunately, because of a combination of their amnesia, creativity, free will, and ego orientation, their dreams sometimes turn into nightmares. Then the Tao itself endures a bit of a nightmare because it is witnessing all the dreams of all its dreamers all the time. Luckily the Tao is big enough to have other fabulous dreams that make up for the nightmares people make up of death, destruction, violence, control, and fear.
In the act of creation, the Tao lovingly decided on a noninterference policy. That is, it created the dreamers and agreed it would abide by whatever dreams they created. Knowing, of course, that in the end, all dreamers would wake up and recognize the basic foundation of love to be found in the source of the universe. Many people curse the Tao for this, believing that it was cruel of the Tao to create this policy: just another bad idea. Yet, if you think it through, the Tao could not have done it any other way without restricting free will. If you lacked this freedom to create any kind of dream you thought of, you would complain that the game was fixed and you would try to rebel. Nothing less than total freedom to dream and discover is the loving way of the Tao.
When sentient beings gather together in great numbers, their collective dreams become very strong. For a period of time on the planet the dreams were about survival. Then came a time where the dreams focused on order, laws, control, and collective living. Then came grand dreams of ambition and power and material gain. These three levels of dreaming, corresponding with the first three soul ages, include basic amnesia or unconsciousness. These dreams harbor the beliefs that everyone is totally separate, in competition, and that the creative force of the universe either does not exist or exists as some kind of angry punitive external force. Today these powerful, centuries old dreams are all entwined and carry great momentum for humankind, inclusive of older souls struggling to wake up from the drug-like stupor of the mass dream.
The collective dream has developed a kind of personal ego, an identity of its own based on what it has become—a long story. This planetary collective dream has become a great power and gobbles up everything in its path. It feeds on the personal dreams of all the people on the planet. What it considers the best food of all is drama, especially drama that is intensely emotion-filled, particularly trauma with much anger, fear, jealousy, envy, and violence. Not only does the collective dream feast on these things, it requires them to maintain its remembered identity. So the collective dream keeps trying to incite more incidents of trauma so it can have more food just like a raging forest fire that hungrily demands more trees for fuel. The dream then reinforces itself every second with more of the same.
Most people's dreams are sucked into this vortex and without realizing it they become contributors to a vast nightmare lifetime after lifetime. Sometimes they dream pleasant things like loving relationships and satisfying work or creating great beauty but these things are not as enticing to the historical collective dream as the more intense traumas. So sooner or later each person tends to be driven into the great karmic dream to contribute to it, be enslaved to it and be victimized by it. Human beings have become like sheep or cows filing into the slaughterhouse of the dream. The results are not pretty.
Now it is important to realize that this grand collective karmic dream is not evil, just unpleasant. Being a dream it has no substance, just momentum. To experience the truth of this, try to prove that you or anything existed one second ago. There is no evidence to that effect. The only thing that you can actually prove is that you are aware in this instant. Everything else is just a memory. All fossils and memorabilia exist only now, even though they appear to relate to a past story. So the dream is not real but appears to be real—has no historical substance but only pretends to have solidity. Its power comes from the momentum it has been given and the fuel it is now receiving in this instant by all the dreamers who think they have no option other than to have this ongoing nightmarish dream.
A new dream is possible but requires enough dreamers to wake up from their collective nightmare and choose to transform the dream. A few very old souls, transcendental souls, and the occasional infinite souls have managed to wake up from the collective dream and to some extent they have managed to wake others up enough to sway the dream a little. Yet even the great spiritual leaders could not change the fundamentally painful direction of the dream the planet was dreaming. They each realized that it would not be possible to change the entire dream until there were enough mature human beings on the planet willing to wake up enough to change it. They had to settle for presenting the option of an alternative and giving pointers about how to wake up. Mostly these teachers have not been heeded because few human beings were mature enough to know what they were talking about. A few took these guide's lead and used their help to wake up from their own personal contribution to the nightmare at large. Most, however, simply incorporated what the teachers said into the ongoing dream without waking up at all, similar to the way a person might incorporate the sound of a passing siren into their dream.
Now for the first time, the possibility of humankind waking up from the mass dream exists on a collective level. The possibility exists of establishing a new dream; a dream that allows the dreamers to wake up within their dream just as on occasion you discover you are dreaming and begin to take conscious control of your dream. How can this be done?
The Personal Dream
For each person there is no hope of changing the collective dream by themselves. Not even Jesus and his historical equals did that. What they did was to swing the dream toward more satisfaction, joy and freedom and less pain, but they had to allow each person to come to the ultimate realizations in their own time. Each person has the capacity to awake from their personal dreaming as the great spiritual teachers did, and no longer contribute to the painful mass dream. To do this deprives the mass dream from feeding just like depriving a forest fire of fuel. There are tried and true methodologies for awakening from the personal dream developed by masters along the way. There are five requirements for waking up.
I. The first requirement for awakening is to realize as actively and as often as possible that the so-called consensual reality is actually a big dream following the specific laws of dreaming. The law of dreaming is: Dreaming requires a mind that is fueled by energy and directed by intent. Intent is a product of light, an information resource that is constantly emanating from the Tao.
II. The second requirement for awakening involves realizing that your own personal story line is also a dream that is based on the four laws of dreaming.
III. The third requirement for awakening is recalling all memories that carry fuel for the big dream. This means using the powers of self-observation to review your life story, not relive it however. In shamanic traditions this is called making a personal inventory of your life in great detail, starting with the moment of birth and making a brief notational record of every possible memory of every incident in life. This is not the same as psychotherapy or analysis where the patient is encouraged to emote hotly or wetly over past incidents. This only serves to reinforce the dream, not starve it.
IV. The fourth requirement for awakening is to engage methods to erase each item on the inventory, no small task. There are a variety of methods to accomplish this. An ancient one is attending to each incident using certain postures and breathing techniques to release it consciously. We will say more about this shortly.
V. The fifth requirement for awakening is to track and pay close attention to current beliefs, actions, choices, and speech that carries fuel for the big dream. In shamanic terms this is called tracking or stalking. This is no simple task either and in fact requires ruthless discipline. The collective dream is opposed to this kind of activity and will use its power to distract you as often as possible. Practicing release to the collective dream makes you stronger and stronger until one day you can awake from it.
Incidentally, awakening from the dream does not mean withdrawing from participating in life. It means living freely and making choices that are independent from coercion by guilt, shame, judgement, or fear. In other words this means living without the influence of dragons, obstacles or chief features.
Let us return to the third and fourth requirements and discuss several methods of erasing personal history via the inventory. Making a proper inventory is a big part of the success of becoming free, however there is no one best method for creating an inventory. Creating an inventory of life's experiences mainly requires an organizing system that works effectively for you. You might choose to categorize experiences in early life according to grades in school, addresses lived at, mother's or father's various marriages or any other category. You might make sub-categories including memories with various emotional content like sad memories, fearful memories, angry memories, and even glad or funny memories. Nothing should be left out. You might have subsections for relatives, friends, schools, clubs, camping trips, work, lovers, and so on. The main thing is that the inventory is all-inclusive and organized. This kind of inventory can take many days to outline. What you will find by doing it is that just starting the process will uncover more memories than you can imagine. Creating the inventory is like priming the pump.
As we mentioned above there are many methods to erase the items on the inventory. Erasing the item does not mean that you will lose the memory. It means that you will unload it of fuel to contribute to the mass dream. In short, the memory will become more neutral. If this makes you nervous you can see in your uneasiness your attachment to the memories, especially the so-called good ones. You don't need good memories as much as you need a good now.
The methods below may be done using a variety of postures and positions. You may wish to sit in a chair in a darkened room with your eyes open or you may wish to lie on your back with your knees up and your arms crossed over your chest. You can also do it standing with arms uncrossed or sitting on your behind with arms wrapped around your knees. An ancient Taoist method is to take a meditation stance: stand with legs shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent, spine straight, arms stretched out front pointing to the ground about eight feet in front with palms down, eyes lowered.
Duplicating: One method to erase the content of a memory is to create an exact duplicate of it in your mind and then place this duplicate onto the original memory. You throw a duplicate at it and the energy wrapped up in it vanishes. This is not easy to explain but hopefully you will get the idea by trying it. It is based on the ancient understanding that whenever you put something exactly where it is already, it disappears. This is why spiritual seekers strive for unconditional acceptance of what is.
Loving it: Another method is to bring up each item in the inventory and open your heart at the same time, experiencing love for it, seeing it as just another face of love. This can be coupled with an intake and outtake of breath for each item. Practice makes this possible even with the more traumatic items.
180 degree head movements: With each item you begin by facing forward and breathing in while turning the head 90 degrees to the left. Then while contemplating the item sweeping the head 180 degrees to the left while breathing out. Then bringing the head straight forward and beginning the next item. This is an ancient Toltec shamanic technique explained by Carlos Castaneda as taught him by his teacher Don Juan in the popular book series.
REM eye movements: This technique is a relatively modern one that uses the methodology of EMDR. You contemplate each item while moving the eyes in a sweeping motion from right to left to right many times, about one sweep per second, until the image has lost its intensity. This method is best used with an EMDR practitioner, especially for the more traumatic memories although you can give it a try on your own. If you are seriously depressed then you should not try this technique on your own.
Now let us comment some more on requirement number five, tracking your personal dream. Tracking your dream involves paying attention to the words that leave your mouth. Anything you say has power to create, so you want to notice what you are habitually saying. Do you want to say that? If not, either stop what you are saying or purposely say something that you would rather create. The things to watch for are habitual stories of victimization, judgements of self or others and comments that reflect a negative outlook on life. A good rule to follow is to ask yourself, "Would I say what I am saying about someone if they were in my presence to hear it?"
Tracking your choices and actions are equally important. A choice may include what you don't do as well as what you choose to actively do. If you are not calling someone on the phone out of fear or anger then you are making a clear choice to take that action. Since all choices and actions are powerful and contribute to the dream, you must ask yourself if that is what you want to create.
Becoming a tracker or stalker is not about hypervigilance, a device the inner critic uses to beat you up on a regular basis. Nor is tracking about being ultra serious, a good-goody saint or being someone that can't have any fun any more. These are distortions of tracking and only lead to false personality problems that contribute to the nightmare. When done properly, tracking is as interesting as tracking an animal in the forest. It reveals constant vistas, awareness and insights. Th results are positive and strong, not dreary or anxiety riven.
Eventually you will become deeply aware that anything you say or anything you do has tremendous power to create. When you take full responsibility for that, you will have awakened from your personal dream and no longer be contributing to the collective nightmare. Then you can begin to lead a life of power and service, the kind of life you were designed to live as a human being.
The good news is that although these disciplines are rigorous, there is an increasing collective discontent with the status quo. The big dream is suddenly losing its luster and people are even more bored with it. As more and more people seek to wake up, the process of awakening for each individual becomes easier. Eventually, when a critical mass is reached, many will wake up spontaneously because they will be carried along with the momentum of the new dream, the dream of awakening.
Don't be lazy and wait for this to happen because it could take some time yet and in the meantime you could be enjoying happiness instead of several more lifetimes of pain and enslavement.
New Dimensions Radio

I'll begin with a few questions: First of all, how can we have sufficient wealth, sufficient money? Or the flipside: How does
