I am the head judge of an online art competition and am recruiting artist to submit their work. Please, please, please pass this on to your artist friends.

Basically the comp is community vote driven. Artists upload work in 2 easy steps and then the community votes on the work. The folks with the most and highest votes are made finalists.

There is $3500 in prize money at stake. So 2 minutes of time might pay off handsomely.

This isn't for manifesto gathering specifically, but I think that the group of folks on here might be interested. Hope you guys are having a blast!

we are in need of tea lights and small brown paper bags for illuminating our hangout/party zones. it is really hard to find those here... could some folks please try to pack those for us? it would be of great help.

news from malpais... hmm, let's see, it's so GORGEOUS here! sunsets are consistently epic, and it doesn't even get cold after the sun goes down on the beach. may i suggest bringing a headlamp or flashlight for outdoor nighttime manifesto-ing... and remember dust masks. make sure you print out the sched. so we can hang together...

So the shuttle service, Tropical Tours CR, that Marty has posted about seems to be unreachable. Their website seems to be defunct and the phone number Marty provided just rings and rings. Anybody have some leads for this or other shuttle options?

Da Shrizz and I are flying in to SJO from LAX and arrive at 6:20am on the 15th. Is anyone else on this flight, or arriving the previous evening? If there are two more peeps, we could get a private taxi service to Mal Pais for about $45/person and wouldn't have to deal with the public shuttle. Any takers?

Update from MalPais

We have been in town for 3 days and it is awesome here! The surf has bee unreal, there is a bank and ATM in town, some new resturants and bars and a lot of energy.

- Moana Lodge has had a complete facelift and is pimping.
- D&N Beach Club has had another round of additions and is SICK!
- Bring dust masks for quading on the road - dust!
- Bring nothing to lose - life is SIMPLE here - dont complicate it with expensive toys and attract bad attention
- Pack light!

Prepare for an epic week !!!!

Intro song to Website: "I don't give a f***" ???

I might ruffle some feathers with this one, but just what exactly is the intention you're setting when the opening song for the Website for the "Gathering" just repeatedly says "I don't give a fuck, I don't, I don't give a fuck".
I actually had some interest in going, but to be honest, when I click on the website and I hear that over and over, I think to myself a few things:
1. "well, if they don't give a fuck, why should I participate in this so-called 'Gathering'"
2. "I really don't care to be around people who 'don't give a fuck"
3. "I have a strong aversion to contradiction"
4. "I don't get it"
and I log out.

Just lettin' you know my thoughts.

(BTW: I posted this on Nov.16, on Gaian Web but never got a response)

Its saturated with bliss down here. The weather has been unbelievable, the waves have been so nice, and the energy really welcoming. Ill be on the lookout for potential spots for folks between hermosa and mal pais which is about a 10 k range. Let me know if anyone is looking for some nice spots. Send me your dates and your budget. It is looking like I will be able to make it down after all. My plan is to head out from LAX on the 17 and return on the 24th. I still haven't secured a place to stay. There are many options still available and I have been considering renting a house. If anyone else is interested in this or has any helpful info on other places to stay close to the Moana lodge please let me know.

Tent camping?

How feasable would this be? I kind of don't feel like bothering to find lodgings and was wondering how many tents would be on sale there. Or if I would have to bring one on the airplane? Is it hard to find camping space?

I am going to probably be in Montezuma, 30 minutes away, 2 weeks before it starts at the spanish immersion classes. I don't know if I can stay the whole time or not but am going to try to come out for a few days or the weekend.

I've never been, is there any particular advice anyone has? I haven't been to the burning man in the United States either so am a newbie. Advice? The best Mosquito lotion? Types of clothing I should bring?

In January we have different options for you and your friends:
1 CASA PACHAMAMA it is a beautiful traditional Costa Rican house with two levels for 5 people with a loft sleeping area, two separates bedrooms with double bed, mosquito net and fan, full equipped kitchen, bathroom with hot water, outdoor living room whit one single bed and outdoor shower. It is rents for $100 + IV per night.
2 CASA LISA is a small house 300m abroad and situated very quit and sleeps up to four people. The house have full equipped kitchen with fridge, mixer, coffee maker. It has two levels, a balcony and a nice terrace. We charge only $80 + IV per day and it’s have a beautiful green garden.
3 SIMPLE CABINS we offer 9 simple cabins it's name is Maluca del Mar and it's have sea view, private bathroom, double bed and one single bed and fan with common kitchen. There are a little soda Piedra Mar situated near and in front of the beach. There's a sand island where you can hang out and watch the ocean. Costa Rica - the last true democracy

For all those that dont know already, the citizens of Costa Rica will vote Sunday Oct 7th, 2007, on whether their country should participate in the CAFTA free trade agreement with the USA. This is true democracy, something we have all forgotten about.

Book tickets soon before they go up. You can get tickets from LAX to San Jose (SJO) today for $296, but see the chart for September, and the escalation going forward.

To get to Manifesto you need to fly to either San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) (capital city in the central valley) or Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) (new airport in the north- more expensive).

Check www.kayak.com or www.orbitz.com or go straight to American Airlines, Taca/Lacsa etc.

Search for LAX -> SJO or SFO->SJO etc.

Average prices from LAX are $280-$350 until November, then they go up to $400. Dont pay more than $500! Call a agent if you cant get cheaper.

Dates of Manifesto are January 18-23, but leave a few days either side for a better time, so we recommend January 16-26 (10 day getaway).

----------------- travel from San Jose to MalPais is not as urgent, but book early to get deals on 4x4's, shuttles or internal flights) ----------------------

From San Jose, you can either reserve a 4x4 rental and drive to MalPais, Costa Rica (5 hours), or fly local Sansa (www.flysansa.com) or Nature Air (www.natureair.com) from San Jose to Tambor, Costa Rica, and take a cab to MalPais. There are many websites on how to get to MalPais.
