Tue, November 18, 2008 - 6:26 PMYep, she does. She said that she rarely uses patterns, even, and basically rips stuff up and fits it on herself. She has done other costume work in the past... such a creative woman. -

Re: all Mardi's cool gear
Sun, February 15, 2009 - 11:05 PMI was fortunate enough to take a workshop from her today and at the end we talked costumes.....she makes most of her costumes from scratch. Even if she buys a belt or skirt, etc., she'll embellish it with found objects. Anything from chandelier crystals to bones from dead animals to vintage buttons, etc. She gets alot of inspiration and 'stuffs' from flea markets and antique stores. And she never uses a pattern. She gets things she likes and then sees how she can use them later for a costume piece. She might take a banjara skirt and add ruffles to it for example.
She doesn't do the 'one-stop shopping' thing you're looking for but I hope this helps. -

Mon, February 16, 2009 - 2:32 AMChandelier crystals, animal jaw with fangs, and turkomen buttons - all on one belt. It was an awesome sight to behold up close! I can't tell you how much I love Mardi for sharing her costuming secrets with us! And the stories behind each piece... *sigh* priceless. -

Mon, February 16, 2009 - 9:25 AMi'm actually quite glad to read the generous replies because it's motivated me to be more creative. i tend to want-it-and-want-it-now
and this reminds me to enjoy the process and be more involved in the costuming aspect.
thanks dolls!

Werd. I can throw some stuff together every once in a while but I tend to be one of those, "I know I'll like it when I see it" people and I usually dig other people's designs. I'd love to say that I'll learn one day but with all of my other endeavors, I have a better chance of doing body shots of vodka at the Kremlin.
