ESSENTIAL MARDI: 12 hours of true LOVE
I am honored beyond words to present the first ever Mardi Love 3-Day Intensive! Feeling SEPARATION ANXIETY for ditching your sweetie on Valentine's Day to go dancing? It's ok, Mardi will make it all right. At my special request, she's dressing up her Sunday best with ASSUIT AND TIE. And then top it all off with some CLANKY PANKY. Go ahead, take the day off on Monday. I hereby declare it a national holiday - Mardi Love Day!
These workshops are best for dancers with some bellydance experience but adventurous beginners are welcome. Just remember each workshop runs 4 hours straight so be prepared and pace yourself accordingly to your own needs.

A Lil' Valentine's Two-fer
SEPARATION ANXIETY: Isolation Patterns
Goody, a bunch of drills that ask for a little concentration. Enjoy an afternoon of quirky patterns while keeping timely hips on the back burner. Indulge; it's good for you. Belly dance experience or a penchant for patting your head and rubbing the tummy recommended.

Providing a few new turns lovingly crafted by Mardi. A little something to slip into the slow pieces.

THAT'S HOW WE ROLL
Spend the first part of class brushing up on slow technique, with some emphasis on belly rolls... perhaps Mardi's favorite constituent in quintessential belly dance. We'll be making room for them in basic movements with layering, and working them into combinations. Movements will be broken down and drilled. Belly rolls for some hours... consider that as you enjoy your breakfast.
ASSUIT AND TIE: Abbreviated Costume Forum
We'll take a little time out from belly-churning to talk costuming. Mardi's spent some years stitching up little numbers as a member of Urban Tribal, The Indigo, and Bellydance Superstars, and is willing to shed a little light on her approaches to costuming. **This is a Seattle exclusive - never offered before and may never happen again!**

MASTER CLASS: RAPID-FIRE COMBOS SERIES
We'll wrap up day 3 with some quality time with Mardi to nourish us until we meet again. Students will be dealt a series of signature combinations, many with a common thread. String em together to form a choreography or use them separately with tribal improv. Movements will be broken down and drilled ruthlessly/endlessly. Bring zils along if you're so inclined, and we'll add percussive interest. **Zils are *optional* with a few combos for those up to the challenge. The whole workshop doesn't involve zils. Don't be skeered!**
This smaller master class is only available as part of a multi-day pass or with permission from Helenwheels to maintain the flow of instruction established over the weekend.

although i am unable to attend, i must say...your post is delightful! the best ad for a workshop i've read in a l-o-n-g time. very inviting and fun! i am sure everyone will have a great time learning from Ms. Love (is Mardi Love her "real" name?). :)
anyway, great post...lots of whimsy in it. imakes me wanna go to seattle. right now. -

I can just see a pack of bellydancers weeping into their long silk veils at the reading of the will, then getting all mad that they didn't get the spot, but trying to be dignified.

Why, thank you! Thank you very much! I've done my job. I was up all night until I was loopy and my eyes glazed over and I couldn't proofread what I'd written. So I prayed that I didn't make any embarassing typos and hit submit at 5:50 am. But most of the whimsy comes from Mardi. I just embellished so I know when someone steals my copy. Maybe I should have a contest to count the number of puns and inuendos in there... nah, then *I'd* have to count to declare a winner! ;o)
And yes, Mardi Love is her REAL name. I've bought her plane tickets, I've seen her passport, and I've written the biggest check I've ever paid in my life to Mardi Love.
And Bonnie, you're too funny!

She was born on a Tuesday and her mum was studying French, and she loves this language a lot, so she called her "Mardi" which is Tuesday in French.
Last name : she's MARDI LOVE! So obvious! It suits her so much, don't you agree? That's why she was born in this family, to become the so-called MARDI LOVE. -

And thanks for letting me know about the Danceland website. There wasn't much there, just directions, parking info, and the phone number. It's a fantastic BALLROOM in this older couple's HOUSE. It' such an awesome place to dance! The first time I went there, I swear, it was like the heavens parted and angels sang when I saw how nice it was. I *heart* Danceland USA!
