im looking for some Mardi Love stuff...not belts but other stuff that she makes like jewelry and i even saw a pic with a shawl made by her....is there any chance to buy it on the net somewhere?
I was on a workshop with her in June but she had no merchandise with her...

Human Rodeo vision write-up including Mardi!

The Rodeo Vision

I grew up on a cattle ranch, Angus to be specific. 40acres, 3 ponds, herd of cattle, 2 dogs, 4 cats, rounds of rattlesnake, 1 pig, 4 motorcycles, 1 boat, 3 pickup trucks and 4 horses.

Biscuit. The 15 hand tall brown Quarter Horse. I was 7 years old when my Dad convinced my mother to purchase a mother-daughter Horse combo that were for sale close to the ranch. Flying Star Ranch…my memories are coming back, I forgot that part. My mother worked full time and my Dad was a pilot so he was away on planes for most of my life. Minus a few years when he was laid off and played janitor at my school (my favorite years.) So Biscuit, the daughter of the team at 6 months old, and I had 40 acres and absolutely no chaperone from 7 to 16 years old when I left home. Let the ruckus begin…

She bit me, kicked me, ran me thru fences, into trees, stepped on me and tried to drown me in the pond on a daily basis. After years of abuse she was my best friend and I don’t blame her, we grew up together. These memories are some of the most fulfilling golden nuggets still left bouncing around in my mind. One more story before I get to business.

Biscuit was dark brown and pretty much invisible at night except for the white diamond on her forehead…I almost typed foreheart…awwwww. So school was about a 45 minute drive from the ranch, in “town”, and it got dark early in the winter. By the time I got home from school and then basketball practice, it was late and dark most everyday. I would park my truck at the house and then take my motorcycle down the hill to feed the animals. Here’s where Biscuit comes in. I parked the motorcycle around the corner of the barn and would walk to the hay barn. As soon a I opened the hay door, I would hear it. Biscuit, who I hardly thought was starving after grazing 40 acres on her own free will, would run to the barn. I mean run. I would hear the hooves, but I couldn’t see her. Remember? Dark brown, dark dark brown. She would get closer and closer and the sound of her pounding hooves and heaving breath was incredibly intimidating. She was huge! And I would stand by the door cowering. Just waiting for her to plow right thru me. But she never did. She would stop just in front me, just in front of me. Nostrils flared, ears back and eyes wide open. Wild and completely in control.

This my friends was the inspiration.

The Rodeo Summary

Spend the day on the Ranch! This is a one-time only epic event hosted by UNMATA and Brad Dosland of Taboo Media. Powered by Hot Pot Studios and supported by countless guest artists and die hard fans.

The venue! The Rodeo will be located at Long Branch Ranch, a ghost town recreation complete with small town, mercantile, saloon and a ton more I cant remember. It’s amazing. I mean really. For serious people… it’s perfect.

The event opens at 11am on Saturday August 8th, 2009. Please arrive between 11am and 1pm. Lunch begins at 1pm with outdoor dining and entertainment. From 2-4pm you have the run of the ranch! Game stations, western dance lessons, whip lessons and surprise entertainment will be scattered throughout the town. Bring some extra cash for horseback riding too. At 420pm the stables will open. You will have the opportunity to walk thru and watch the handlers prepare the human horses for the Rodeo. The stables will be open from 420 to 5pm, At 6pm meet at the coral for the Rodeo showcase. The Rodeo showcase will run for one hour from 6-7pm. This showcase includes dance performances by UNMATA, Verbatim, Street Team, Hot Pot Studio and Suhaila Salimpour. Dinner starts at 730pm with outdoor dining and entertainment. 9pm the Saloon opens! All night drinking, gambling and general mayhem! Roulette wheels too! 1030pm the Evening show will begin in the Town Hall across from the Saloon. Featuring Dahlia, Kami Liddle, The Old Ladies, Origin Tribal, The Boiler Bar, Janice Solimeno, Kristen Dosland and The Indigo! Then back to the Saloon to finish out the evening with surprise entertainment and more drinking and gambling! The evening runs until 2am and then we gotta go! Um……..

We are so glad to have these wonderful Masters teachers at the same time for you!
August 31 to September 6th, 2009

The master classes are dedicated to pro dancers who want to improve their dance and style. Only 12 students will attend the class. 6h of dance class per day during 4 days, 2 performances in front of Masters Mardi, Moria and Marco Cattoï (Contemporary professional dancer, Director of the Mondapart Company and Mondapart dancing school), 1 private interview with the Masters to give you advice and thoughts.

Program :
Monday to Thursday : dancing workshops (technic, choreo, personnal work & research)
Thursday evening : studio show (public entrance)
Friday : personnal interviews
Friday night : if you wish to perform once more to incorporate the Masters advice, you will be kindly welcome to do so and to share the stage with Masters.

Saturday and Sunday are intensive workshop opened to everybody.

Spend the first part of class brushing up on slow technique, with some emphasis on belly rolls... perhaps Mardi's favorite constituent in quintessential belly dance. We'll be making room for them in basic movements with layering, and working them into combinations. Movements will be broken down and drilled. Belly rolls for some hours... consider that as you enjoy your breakfast.

ASSUIT AND TIE: Abbreviated Costume Forum
We'll take a little time out from belly-churning to talk costuming. Mardi's spent some years stitching up little numbers as a member of Urban Tribal, The Indigo, and Bellydance Superstars, and is willing to shed a little light on her approaches to costuming. **This is a Seattle exclusive - never offered before and may never happen again!**

MASTER CLASS: RAPID-FIRE COMBOS SERIES
We'll wrap up day 3 with some quality time with Mardi to nourish us until we meet again. Students will be dealt a series of signature combinations, many with a common thread. String em together to form a choreography or use them separately with tribal improv. Movements will be broken down and drilled ruthlessly/endlessly. Bring zils along if you're so inclined, and we'll add percussive interest. **Zils are *optional* with a few combos for those up to the challenge. The whole workshop doesn't involve zils. Don't be skeered!**

This smaller master class is only available as part of a multi-day pass or with permission from Helenwheels to maintain the flow of instruction established over the weekend.

howdy seattleites!!!
i'm making the trek up north for the valentines' day workshops. anyone want to host a San Francisco dancer in their home? i'm about as low maintinence as they come, i'll take a couch or bring my own air mattress(yes i've brought it on a plane before).
i will need assistance with transportation but can pitch in for gas and can offer trade in handmade rosehips goodness!

We don't have to tell you that Mardi Love is an integral part of The Indigo and that her dance stylings influence todays hottest tribal bellydancers. For this workshop weekend, Mardi will be teaching two very special 3-hour classes that are limited to 20 students per class.

Saturday, December 6 Workshop:

“Twofer Workshop - Separation Anxiety: Isolation Patterns!”
Noon - 3pm :: $75 per student
Twofer - Part A
Goody, a bunch of drills that ask for a little concentration. Enjoy an afternoon of quirky patterns while keeping timely hips on the back burner. Indulge; it's good for you. Belly dance experience or a penchant for patting the head and rubbing the tummy recommended.

Providing a few new turns lovingly crafted by Mardi. A little something to slip into the slow pieces.

Sunday, December 7 Workshop:

“Quicker Combos and Zils”
Noon - 3pm :: $75 per student
Spend the better part of class picking up quicker combos to blend into your repertoire. Top ‘em off with bold customized percussive accents that will leave their ears bleeding. Bring zils.

Tribute to Mardi & Rachel

Hi ladies!! Here are 3 videos of a show i did with my friend Jessica, using music from Serpent Rouge, and a song Rachel used on the Retreat in Costa Rica which i loved!! And also we took the composition of the DVD of Tobias, and then improvise a little.
Something to share and show our friends a bit of what we've learned from Rachel on the workshop.

Hello dear dancers,

My dream to come to SF and learn from the best tribal teachers in the very cradle of that style is almost fulfill.
I get visa to US and I’ve just bought a ticket. I will come 19 of November and stay for 4 weeks. I’m going to get classes from Ariellah, Suhaila and Carolena.

I have only one problem, I can’t find a place to stay.
I was looking for on various “find-your-roomate” and “coachsurfers” websites, but without any result.

So maybe you have or know anybody who have a room or even couch for rent in San Francisco or Oakland. I’m able to pay about 400 – 500$ for month.

If you have any info please contact me here.

I’m quiet, non smoking person who just love to dance.

I think I must have lost my mind compleatly due to heat at TF8 because my Mardi Workshop notes are pure jibberish! Im heartbroken because I had alot of fun with the chorography and was feeling super inspired. If anyone is willing to share their notes on our Tribe I would be forever in your debt.

DAY OF THE DEAD - México 1st and 2nd November - Rachel's coming

The Day of the Dead (El Día de los Muertos in Spanish) is a holiday celebrated in México, November 1st honors deceased children and infants where as deceased adults are honored on November 2nd. This is indicated by generally referring to November 1st mainly as "Día de los Inocentes" (Day of the Innocents) but also as "Día de los Angelitos" (Day of the Little Angels) and November 2nd as "Día de los Muertos" or "Día de los Difuntos" (Day of the Dead).

So, many people believe that during the Day of the Dead, it is easier for the souls of the departed to visit the living.

For Mexicans in November we have an important date, and we will also have our favorite artists Rachel Brice & Mardi Love, on the DAY OF THE DEAD!!!

There's a tribe called Bellydance Reviews that offers up a place to get information about teachers, vendors, video/dvds, and events. It's meant to be an honest resource for bellydancers in our community. Face it - a lot of bellydancers have to carefully budget their spending on their art, and knowing where they can get the best training or information is super helpful.

So, there's a thread on Bellydance Reviews asking about Mardi and what to expect from her workshops, etc. It hasn't gotten a lot of response yet. I thought that since many people here have had that experience, that I might take the opportunity to ask if you would show up to the tribe and post your experiences. Seeing as Mardi is coming to my neck of the woods later this year, I am eager to hear about your experiences.

shimmy help

Hi all
just looking foor some advice on shimmies.Do you guys do Suhaila style glute shimmies or just regular ol' shimmies with your kness and hips. It confusing because some people teach the glute variety, whereas other instructers do the other kind. Is anyone else confused by this?Is it possible to alternate between styles, or should you pick one and stick with it.? I'm confused

Just spent 2 days doing Mardi workshops here in Amsterdam........fantastic!

I wasn't into tribal workshops anymore 'cause I was sick of spending workshop time doing more yoga/sit ups/glut sqeezes than dancing itself but Mardi's workshops were exactly what I've been pining for.....dance, dance dance......not a downward dog or sit up in sight!!

Bliss.

I'm now an official Mardi fan!

Can we get Voodoo Love Mica?

Hi all!

The insanely talented Moria just came to Florida for a two-day workshop, and during the makeup section of day two she raved about a product that added some seriously cool shimmer. She got it directly from Mardi (birthday present, I think) and it was called something like Voodoo Love and was basically just flakes of mica. Does anyone know if it's possible to order this? Does anyone else own some? Has anyone else ever heard of it? Is anyone listening? Does anyone care?

There seem to be gobs of people searching for the song entitled "MIHAIL COCEK" by Brozbent Zahir Ramadanov (and I believe among all of us we may have tried every possible variation of spellings of these words)

* SFF 2008 is bigger and better than last year! We listened to our SFF 2007
Attendee feedback, and made several changes and upgrades accordingly. Please
stay tuned to this site for more information detailing this year's changes and what to
expect at our event.

Some highlights include: We have added a Specialty Class room to focus on our
regions specifics dancers needs - including classes specifically geared toward
advanced and professional dancers, prop classes and specialty topics. These
classes are limited to only 15 participants, space is limited, so register early to
reserve your spot.

We have also changed our location to Athens, GA to ease our attendees' experience.
The new location is at the Athens Classic Center, with easy access to parking, food,
hotels and all SFF 2008 events.

This year we have increased our instructors with many options gear specifically to
tribal and cabaret attendees. Expect a weekend packed with classes, shopping, great
shows and a ton of fun!

i went to whole foods to grab some lunch supplies for the week and went looking for the amy & brian coconut juice. found it in the juice isle (which i'm rarely in there so no wonder i'd never seen it).

i am hooked now! no more hacking open a coconut to get juice when that's all i want! woo hoo, it's a brand new world. well... maybe not that earth shattering. ^_~

I am glad to announce that some extra workshops have been added !

*Mardi Love* (USA) is also coming to 'the Dream' and will be teaching 2 workshops on June 21st and 22nd and also will perform in the show.

Mardi Love is currently working and performing with The Indigo. A former member of Urban Tribal Belly Dance, she moved from San Diego to the Bay Area in 2004. She is a major influence on the costuming and choreographic style of The Indigo.
