more you tube vids

topic posted Fri, October 19, 2007 - 8:38 AM by  maria
hi all,
Thanks to my lovely and super bestest pal, Joanne, from Boston, I will be filming more you tube vids next week.
Sword is on the agenda. Any other requests?
We've tried taking vid at restaurant (other people have) and the vids are horrid, bad lighting, waiters back and forth, so that is why I just do it at the studio.
Stuff at big shows don't come out very well either, lighting issues, etc. etc.
When I win the lottery, I shall put out an instructional DVD with performances, until then, you tube it is!

      Maria:

You are such an inspiration to me! I love your videos!!

I need to be able to be at ease while performing, like you. I so NEED, NEED, NEED the choreography. I think my old teacher ingrained that into me, but my new teacher is so good at improv, so hopefully, I'll be able to understand how to "go with the flow" and not be so stoggy.

      Thanks so much for sharing!

That would be Lawrence. He's a sweetie ` I know him well, as does Pasha, he's a joker!

I teach in my intermediate classes, the first five minutes is improv. I make my students improv....it's the only way to do it.
So, every intermediate class, I let them vote on "pop, traditional egyptian, drum solo"
Whatever they pick, I pick the song, and they improv. I don't watch, in fact I leave the room most of the time.

My students who are uncomfortable at first with it, I say, "work on undulations and 3/4 shimmies or whatever" Pretty soon those students become comfortable with it too.

I'm glad you found a teacher that will help you with improv. I think it's so important.

        Luv,
        M.
P.S> I like my other you tube vids better, I felt I was stodgy on the new you tube vids because I was like "Oh, this is for you tube!"
        Luv,
        M.

Lawrence posted a funny on Bhuz, I think, about a t-shirt that was for a workshop. It was cute!

And, if only I was a good speller, or did I miss a key because I was in a hurry when I posted? Yes, I was in a hurry (wink, blushing).

I didn't think you looked stodgy in the last three videos. I love all of them, but I think one of my most faves is the zill dance, but like I said, I love them all!

          So, keep them coming!

          Azeeza

PS I will work on the improv.

easy link to all my vids. I have one on there of an egyptian man singing/and mouth kazooing? (is that a word) to Wahastini. SO fun,
I agree Azeeza, after looking at all my vids, I like my zil dance one best too.
I had a group of about 10 people sitting on the floor watching, and I love to perform for an audience, so that's why I think I like it best, because I was really enjoying myself. I hate dancing to a video camera....
            Never get used to it.
I LOVE dancing for an audience however.....
            too much fun.
            luv,
            m.
