Circus Side Show!!!

All I can say is what FUN! We had a great time Sat. Night! The Princess was fabulous as always and Satya and her partner did some feats that set the place a blaze! Flying fabric dancers and a dancing Camel! Ricky, (definitly taking a class or two from him!!) Michael *giggle* and Frank added that extra something!! All the performances were fantastic....I especially enjoyed Elizabeth's performance! The spontaneity was the piece de resistance! What a pro! Thank you so much for the events you all work so hard to bring to fruition!

Hello ladies & gents!!!

I have finally secured a space for me to teach full classes here in Colorado Springs!!! My classes will be held at 40 Thieves Hookah Lounge at 1524 North Academy Boulevard Colorado Springs, CO 80909. Classes are scheduled for Friday from 5:00pm-7:00pm starting Friday June 6th, 2008.

Hammerhead Sharqi Dance Technique is a style of World Fusion Bellydance that is based in American Tribal Fusion Style (ATS Fusion) & heavily influenced by elements of Modern-Egyptian Cabaret Style, Hip-Hop, Hula, African, Indian, & Latin dances & bears subtleties of other dance & movement styles including Ballet, Lyrical, Modern, Jazz, Ballroom, Asian Court dances, Martial Arts, as well as Yoga, Pilates, Gymnastics, & many more. In these classes, the meditative communication channels between mind & body are opened to create a more expressive movement within the dance with a strong foundation & sharp mental focus.

Classes will cover:

1) Conditioning, & strengthening exercises with stretching, Yoga, & Pilates.
2) Identification of anatomical structures used for dancing
3) Movement vocabulary
4) Technique
5) Combinations & layers
6) Choreography, stage-presence, & venue-tailoring

Hello everybody!!!

First & foremost, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Mothers Day!!!

Second, I am sorry to announce that I will be cancelling my classes for today (Sunday May 11th) & next Sunday (May 18th). I am doing this because I need to spend time working on my Tribal, Cabaret, & Hula pieces for my audition with Bellydance Superstars (next weekend). Yep... I'm auditioning again this year!!! Some of you will be at Tribal Fest, some of you might be at Raqs LA (see you there), but for those of you who are staying home & take my classes, I'm sorry that I won't be here. : ( Depending on how things go at my audition this year, my classes should resume on Sunday May 25th.

I will be blogging while on my trip to Raqs LA to take workshops, perform, & audition. Correction on the date for the "Best of the Persian Gulf" workshop

Hi all, I know a few of you got some of me and Khadijah's fliers about our workshop next month, and there was a typo on the date!! We had originally planned on May 17th, but decided to move it to May 24th - so that's the important date! The workshop will be at the same rec center that Khadijah teaches at locataed on 2800 Glenarm place. We will each teach half of the four hours (with a break in between).

I also wanted to give any of you who are interested in Persian dancing a little more information on the choreography I am teaching. The dance I am teaching is called "Baba Karam" and is based on a very old Iranian pop song, but it continues to be EXTREMELY popular today. The song is about the old Iranian "bad boys" who had there own, pretty sloppy sense of style. You typically where black dress pants, a white dress shirt not buttoned properly and only half tucked in, a red scarf around your neck and a black fedora style hat. This dance is very cute for girls because you kind of immitate the men's style of dancing and acting a little arrogant. A lot of the classical hand movements, head slides, and facial expressions are central to dancing Baba Karam, and it's also very important how you play with the scarf around your neck and your hat to be REALLY flirtatious.

I learned Persian style from several of my Iranian friends, and was asked to perform Baba Karam at this year's Norouz (Persian New Year) at CU Boulder.

We are wrapping up the final details, and getting freaking excited to see everyone again at Elevation!

This year is gonna be bigger and better than ever.

Friday
9am-5pm Full day of classes with Unmata, Zoe Jakes, Karim Nagi, Monnya Silver, and Tribe Marrakech

6:30pm: Halfa, Show, Concert, and Open Dancing at the Buffalo Rose.

Concert by La Notte(NYC Gothic Medieval Dance Band, with Hurdy Gurdy, Viola, Violin, Medieval Pipes, and Nevik on drums(look fo Ocean and Karim Nagi to sit in too!)

Elevation workshop tickets Friday am - Unmata/Zoe Jakes

I bought tickets to Unmata 100% (9 am) and Zoe Jakes: Sultry Moves (11:15 am) workshops on Friday, April 18. I can't really afford it, so would anyone like to take them off my hands?

It's $72 for both workshops, and I can tell you Unmata will work your butt off! I haven't taken anything from Zoe before.

Hi guys...do you have a suggestion or an idea of where we can get ready between the last workshop and show on Friday? I just realized how much time I have (1 hour)....that would be driving time home and back. So wondering if you knew of a place...or an idea that I could do.

If someone has a room and would not mind someone plugging in a curling iron on the floor and bringing a mirror to do makeup --- i would buy you a beer! And would not take up much space....

Guessing I may not be the only one in the last workshop performing....

They are about to lose their home and they don’t have money for Christmas gifts, so we want to gather some stuff to send them. Some of them also are into belly dancing and drumming. We will be gathering the items at the Holiday Shindig this Friday night from 6-9pm at Paprika in downtown Golden. You can come by and/or send the goods with someone else, or drop it by before Monday noon. All the goodies will be sent on Monday afternoon.

La Danse Macabre Video is now ready!

We finally have the La Danse Macabre video!

The quality is not as nice as I had hoped, but it is pretty good. This has more to do with the poor lighting than anything.

The editing is very tasteful, and the music is synced perfectly.

The video is for sale for $10 to performers only, and it has everyone's performance on it.

Please contact me here and let me know if you would like one!

Also, as a side note, the videographer made no upfront money on this, and will only make $ through the sals of the dvd. So, please let's respect the artist and the literally, like, 70 hours he put into the project, and NOT COPY the DVD. If you would like one of your own, please buy it.

Upcoming Bellydance Events at 40 Thieves

Howdy Folks!!! 40 Thieves has some major bellydance events coming up for you in the realm of soon!!!

NOVEMBER:
*This Saturday November 10th, Sadie will be blessing us with her presence & there'll be an opening set by yours truly. Doors open at 8:00pm show starts around 9:30.

*Saturday November 24th there will be a sensationally Sadie show. Doors at 8:00 show after 9:30.

DECEMBER:
*Starting this December, 40 Thieves will be hosting a weekly student night show every Friday night. On behalf of 40 Thieves we would like to extend invitations to all bellydance students, teachers, classes, troupes, & soloists in Colorado to perform. Every Friday we will have 10 performance slots (6 minutes max). Please e-mail me for more specific details & to request a performance slot.

*Saturday December 15th will feature a Sadie & Frank Winter delight!!!

Friday night catered hafla with live band, dj, performances by local teachers and student troupes on a professional stage with full sound and lighting.

All of the events will be located within 1/2 block of each other in lovely old downtown Golden, along the banks of the Clear Creek River.

La Danse Macabre...

I am not sure how to even start here, except, a HUGE thanks to Phoenix, Yallah, and Tribe Marakesh and of course our fabulous MC Ocean! What an amazing evening! I know my fellow vamps, Naia, Laura, Che', Kendra and of course The Countess Rafi'ah had fun performing "An Evening in Transylvania" as well as soaking up all the talent and spookyness of all the perfomances. We are all so blessed as dancers to participate in an event like this. There is so much creativity in this community (it was ooooozing all over the place) and we all embraced it with all our hearts and dancing gooley souls! Each and every performance was unique and full of creativity, adventure, and the costumes~Extroidinary! What fun, I do hope this will become a Halloween tradition here in Colorado, (hint, hint, cheshire cat grin!)

As for the work shops, too much fun! Elizabeth's Ghoolie Combos was great and my very first Tribal class, and hopefull not my last! We learned all kinds of fun, spooking moves, saw some familiar faces, met some new ones, Thank you Elizabeth and Tribe Marakesh!

Phoenix, what can I say! You are awesome! Your Slow and Slinky was indeed that! I actually think I slithered right out of Paprika! (I think your southern prounounciation is just perfect!)

Thank you all for your hard work in putting together this event! You all must be Exausted! Get some well deserved rest.

Dazzle holds a monthly art show the first Monday of each month. This month exhibit is related to side show acts and tribal art. There will be an art exhibit by a local ceramic artist, free food, drink specials, music, and a performance by my student dance troupe, Tribe Marrakech Express.

Hi all - we are holding an open drum and dance at Studio Soma this Sunday. Discounted presale tickets will be available for La Danse Macabre at the event.

September 23rd

A Night of Live Music and Open Dance
Phoenix & Studio Soma will hosts a night of performance and open dancing to live music

Doors will open at 730pm - after the class has ended
Performance will begin 8pm - followed by open dancing until we get tired or it gets late!

All ages are welcome and invited
$5 Cover

The night will feature various performances to live drumming - no canned music on this evening!
Drumming by members of Yallah! and some other special guests - drum circle after performances.

If you are interested in performing - contact Phoenix. Priority will be given to Phoenix's students and class participants. Limited slots will be available.

Opening dancing for all!!! Bring your drums, zills, & belts!!

Also - refreshments will be available - potluck style. If you wish to bring something to share then please do - it is not required.
