These boys have been straight tearing up the circuit with their crunked-out glitch-injected hip-hop & lush IDM. In the last 4, 5 years, electro in the dance music scene has got lots of elements of music in it. Kraftwerk elements, house elements, funk elements, punk elements, rock elements, and so on... which is very similar to new wave scene in the '80s time.

the originals who made hip hop possible. Before Africa
Bambaata was throwing parties in the Bronx, before
Prince Whipper Whip was rocking with the Fantastic 5
and before the Rock Steady Crew ever attempted their
first windmills, Umar Bin Hassan and the Last Poets
were making rhythm and poetry live on the streets of
Harlem.
Thirty years later a number of the more socially and
politically conscious emcees are planning a tribute
album to the Last Poets featuring Common, Dead
Prez, Chuck D, Keith Murray, Buckshot, Kanye West,
Erykah Badu and others.
Since 1999, Brooklyn Producer/DJ Dub Gabriel and Last
Poets’s founder Umar Bin Hassan have collaborated in
many ways.
First with Umar’s now legendary appearance on Dub
Gabriel’s Baraka Orchestra album, Then with Dub
Gabriel and Prof. Shehab releasing Umar’s album
produced by Bill Laswell. Gabriel’s Current album
“Bass Jihad” is a modern Middle Eastern Dub
masterpiece being compared by Billboard magazine to
Brian Eno as well as on the best of 2005 list from
many magazines and radio stations from around the
world.
The night will be a celebration of not only the return
meeting of these two artist, but also it will be the
first time Dub Gabriel is in New York since moving to
Berlin Germany 8 months ago.

Hello! I was invited by Silvie to join this list after she heard that I will be in Bali teaching a week-long belly dance workshop in May. I am so excited to visit your beautiful country, and I hope to have the opportunity to meet many of you while I am there.

Here is a bit of information about the workshops:

The workshop will include classes to enhance and improve your belly dance isolations, stretches and technique, as well as classes in Tribal Fusion, West African fusion, Balinese dance and more. Saturday evening, make history and perform in the first-ever belly dance show at Bhanuswari! It's already being advertised across the island, so come share the stage with Sahira, local Balinese dancers, and belly dancers from all over.

About State of Bengal:

Sam, aka State of Bengal, is one of the Key DJ/ Producers to have emerged from the Cutting Edge British Asian Music scene that emerged in the late 90's that gave birth to the 'Asian Underground' movement.

He made his mark as a cutting edge producer/DJ at the infamous ‘Anokha’ club nights where he was one of the Key DJ's instrumental in the success and aesthetic of the highly acclaimed club night. His eruptive tracks ‘Flight IC408’ and ‘Chittagong Chill’, featured on Talvin
Singh's Anokha compilation have taken their place in history and remain anthems.

Aside from his own work, SOB has either worked, played, remixed or toured with numerous world class artists, including Bjork, The Clash, Ronnie Jordan, Massive Attack and the late Ananda Shankar. It was at Anokha that Bjork discovered State Of Bengal’s and pursued him to sign up to her Record label One Little Indian, (on which his Debut album Visual audio was released) and tour on her ‘Homogenic’ album world wide tour in 2001.

Following his Debut album, Sam fulfilled a long time dream in 1998; Sam’s mission to re-introduce the pioneer of '60s Indo-funk, the classical sitarist Ananda Shankar who jammed with Jimi Hendrix and spent a long career at the forefront of fusion and experimentation that pushed the boundaries with his astonishing covers of Light My Fire and Jumping Jack Flash, came to life with a collaboration album with Ananda Shankar entitled ‘Walking On’ followed by a highly successful UK tour.

His last album ‘Tana Tani’, collaboration with Nomadic Baul Singer Paban Das Baul was another life long ambition. Released in 04 It has been described as “a folk culture over 500 years old meeting this digital soundscapes of the 21st century” Song Lines mag who nominated it as best global album of the year and Voted no.2 on XLR8R mag’s Global Break Beat charts 04.

State Of Bengal's unique style continues to be in high demand and plays at clubs and festivals around the globe both as a Dj and with his live band. He was also instrumental in successfully introducing the ‘British Asian Underground’ scene into Mumbai in 1998 and helped to create a huge platform for aspiring Dj’s and producers there.

State Of Bengal is finalizing his new concept Album Skip-IJ. Skip-IJ unleashes yet another side of Sate of Bengal…..with its play ground rhythms, several tracks feature vocalist from around the globe, with its off rhythm and fusion of various street style. His DJ set on his USA dates will give a sampler of his new tracks.

3rd I is a non-profit, national film organization committed to promoting diverse images of South Asians in independent film. Representing filmmakers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Sri Lanka, Maldives and the global South Asian Diaspora, 3rd i supports its mission by providing monthly film screenings, an annual film festival, networking resources and a distribution channel serving emerging and established film makers. Sub Swara is proud to welcome two artists who were instrumental in laying the revolutionary foundation of the Asian Underground Scene in New York. Zakhm and Siraiki were both residents (and Siraiki the co-founder) of the legendary Mutiny club night and continue to break new ground and blaze brilliant artistic paths worldwide.

Now a resident at Kollektiv (also featuring Karsh Kale, Janaka Selekta, DK aka Bollygirl NYC, and Dimmsummer), Zakhm is pushing groundbreaking world electronica sounds nationwide with Kollektiv residencies in New York, Washington D.C., San Diego, and Chicago. Alongside Karsh Kale, the MIDIval Punditz, and DJ Cheb i Sabbah, Zakhm was also a core member of the Asian Massive Tour, whose companion album (on Six Degrees Records) featured Zakhm's floor stomping burner, Insaan.

Siraiki launched the sound of the Asian Underground in NYC in 1997 with the Mutiny Club Night, whose residents included DJ Rekha, Navdeep, Zakhm, and Anju. He is also an accomplished filmmaker, whose incendiary film, Mutiny: Asians Storm British Music, documents the rise of South Asian Electronic Music and its indelible socio-political impact in the UK during the 1990s.
