hello! i am new to this tribe & feel very blessed to have had 2 positive birth experiences (one in a hospital w/ a CNM & the other at home, a waterbirth in a huge trough of a tub in my kitchen w/ a CPM, her assistant & we even let a midwifery student join in the fun).
now that my children are a HUGE almost-7 and almost-10, i still find myself drawn to all issues of childbearing & childbirth, breastfeeding and, now that they're older, the vending machines & yucky lunches served in their schools (my kids won't touch 'em), etc, etc. ~all so very important & deeply political.
ever since reading spiritual midwifery during my 2nd pregnancy i have loved to hear different birth stories & learn so much from reading each mysterious and beautiful event.
i noticed there hasn't been a new thread for a while here (has the bush admin. temporarily stifled any dialogue & all hope in this arena?)
my hope is that this is an appropriate topic for this particular tribe & that we can enter this year gently sharing in this joy together while collectively learning, growing, and reminiscing from our unique experiences as mommies, daddies, midwives & the like...

Re: *share your birth story here*
Mon, January 7, 2008 - 7:25 AMAllright, i'm game. But writing something like that will take some uninterrupted time. I'll try sometime this week.
Ironically enough, i'm in the middle of my Obstetrics rotation and it's very disheartening. -

Wed, January 9, 2008 - 10:51 PMi can only imagine! just reading "born in the USA" & "misconceptions" was disheartening & i was in a very indirect role as a reader.
actually going the *rounds* in real life hospital, USA, when so many decisions may fall outside your own values and/or intuition.
HANG IN THERE! that profession is better for having YOU in it!

Re: *share your birth story here*
Wed, January 9, 2008 - 3:37 PMI would love that opportunity. I have had three beautiful births at home, spanning the years 1994 to 2002. The first two were assisted by a direct-entry midwife. At the third, my mother was my only attendant. I also trained with a direct-entry midwife, and have my certification in massage therapy and holistic health education.
I agree, this will take some prep time, especially since I have three tales to tell, but I will get to work. -

i, too, will need to spend a little time myself prepping for this one (and went into starting this thread knowing that!)
'til we meet again...

Sat, May 17, 2008 - 4:32 PMThe birth of Trillium Semilla Borealis * our sun
The conception and birth of our sun has brought many changes to my life. For one- soon after his conception- even thou his father and i put our intent out and called him down- i found my self alone abandoned from him. We felt we had called down a lil boy but at 6 months inutero after a suggested ultra sound-- they thought i was carring twins-- the doctor said he was a girl-- i left that day alittle sad thinking how could my intuition have been so wrong. The day before trilliums birth his father and i had a long distance heated conversation which left me extremely upset.... just as i was settling in for the night i "peed" alittle ... thinking this was normal leakage i thought nothing of it and it stopped. The next day I was drinking super food to repair any tears in my placenta - later in the after noon just after phoning my midwife saying i was ok
the leaking started again- suddenly my water gushed but still not what i expected of the water breaking... i called my midwife and told her
she asked for me to take my temperature and i could not ... at this point we knew i was in full on labor... meanwhile my friend frantically cleaned the house -- we have two dogs who like dirt one is a husky- to prepare it for the birth- both my blessed goddess midwives were an hour away --- the baby was a month early... but that suggested ultra sound had a measurement on it saying i could deliver at home.. my birth tub had not arrived -- we hadnt even done the in home visit yet--- but the house tub as narrow as it is worked. at one point i told my friend he might have to deliver the baby but then i got back in the tub to slow things down.. and when the midwives arrived i was ready to push trillium was born an hour later the whole birth was only 3 hours long my first birth just as i was looking down thinking my little girl bonnie said no let see and sure enough he was a boy .... just what we all knew already expect for the Dr. who did the ultrasound
trillium and my birth was easy we worked together toning * truely a blessing* from spirit trillium was 6 lbs. 14 oz big!
