My first research for the MLA-meeting in Paris next July, there will follow much more.
I haven't checked availabilities yet! I think we need to get this going real real fast if we want to find rooms for the period we want, these things tend to get booked quite early. Also since I'll only be able to join up for maybe one day and night I'd like to make sure everything is perfectly organised beforehand. I know the language of course, and I know several people who can help me find what we need, so I think I might offer useful suggestions for this.

I suggested staying at Shakespeare & Co ( www.shakespeareco.org/ ) , but that would mean sleeping bags, each one hour of work in the bookshop and previously a tough screening Mr. 93-year old Whitman to prove we're writers.
Then I saw the Beat hotel ( www.topfoto.co.uk/gallery/b...efault.htm )still exists, the place where Burroughs, Ginsberg & Co stayed in the fifties. Expensive today and nothing to do with the cheap dirty joint it used to be (www.sleeping-around.com/europe...x.shtml ).

Out of the blue a voice suggested making a pot in order to provide a safeguard for the less wealthy members for our congregation. I think it's a great idea!

Now since we have no idea how many people will join and on what precise dates; I suggest looking for a good bed & breakfast ("chambre d'hôtes") or an appartment ("Gîte"). Now in Paris centre they only come in two flavours: extremely expensive or extremely small (1 or 2 people). It would be so much fun to stay at the same place…
I started to look around the suburbs and found a few possibilities at the outskirts.

This one is said to be at 20 minutes by train of Paris centre and seems quite cozy and not expensive at all. I think one issue could be how easy it is to get back in the late evening.
Three rooms for 4 to 6 people costs 188 euros a night.

This one is in the center of Paris, for 5 to 6 people. 200 euros a night for one of the two rooms. They charge extra for more than 2 people per room. A bit expensive for my taste.

This one is for 12 people (in Paris). 5 liitle appartments next to each other.
90 euros per room, each room for 2 people (but I guess some can accomodate 3).

The first seems excellent if we're up to 6 people and the train connections work good. The third seems great if there is more of us.
More reports later on!
