Tribal Fusion Classes in Ottawa/Gatineau!

Hi folks,

I'm pleased to announce that my tribal classes will be starting for a seven week session starting on Friday March 17th. Those staying for the second class are welcome to join in St Patrick's Day festivities at Patty's Pub, which is located next door to the studio! Discounted drop-in rates will apply to out of town visitors to Ottawa! Please see the details below :)

Cheers,
Leslie / Ocean fire

Tribal Fusion and Suhaila format Technique
6:30-7:30PM Fridays
Starts March 17th
$70 for seven week session at Makin' Moves studio located at 1196 Bank St at Ossington

This class is devoted to developing solid posture, strong technique and core strength. It is a challenging class that uses the Suhaila Salimpour format to develop technique. Each week we will start with conditioning exercises and explore a few different movements, including undulations up to down, undulations down to up, interior hip circles and squares, exterior hip circles and squares, ribcage circles and figure 8's, and the locks, breaks and waves that create the stylization of tribal fusion bellydance. We will also be developing dance movement and learning basic zilling technique. This class will appeal to all dancers (including beginners) looking to further develop and strengthen their technique. Dance experience is recommended but not required. The movements we study are beneficial both to tribal and Oriental bellydance.

Tribal Style Bellydance Basics and Combinations
7:30-8:30 PM Fridays
Starts March 17th
$70 for seven week session at Makin' Moves studio 1196 Bank St.

This class is devoted to developing movement and improvisational cues in the format of FatChanceBellyDance, creators of American Tribal Style Bellydance. Each week, we will work on 2-3 slow and fast movements and learn how to use them in combinations, and dance in duets and trios. We will apply movement from the Tribal Fusion and Suhaila Format class to create tribal combinations and basic choreographies over the course of several sessions.

Tribal Fusion Practice Session:
8:30-9:30PM Fridays
$5 drop in for practice.

This is not a class, it is a practice session where students have the opportunity to practice dancing together, work on technique individually or obtain corrections from the instructor. This practice session does not run every week, but will run most weeks. Part of the profit from the practice sessions will be donated to a women's organization (I am currently researching which one).

To register, contact Leslie at oceanfiretribal AT sympatico DOT ca or call 296-2810
Those registering for both classes receive a $10 discount for a total of $130 for seven weeks including 14 classes.
Drop-ins are $15/class

***Special student discount for the session and sliding fee scale for student drop-ins applies for those with valid student ID, please contact Leslie for additional details. Sliding fee scale means that you pay what you are able to beginning at $8.50 per class.

Hi folks,

Along with the new year comes new projects and performances for Tribu Mazikeen! We are five dance artists from the National Capital Region who banded together in Fall 2004 to make art and mischief :)

Mazikeen is myself, Mylene Desjardins, Mylene Laplante, Maya Jean and Isabelle Parker. Collectively, we've studied with Denise Enan's school of dance, Aziza, Rachel Brice, FCBD, Jill Parker, Suhaila and Hadia, to name a few. And so, we bring the influences of all our wonderful teachers to our dance.

In Spring 2006, we will be performing shows and haflas here and there, and we'll post about them and our worskhops here :)

Check back every now and again for updates, and for now we welcome you to the home of Tribu Mazikeen!
