<div>Some of you know I've had to alter my eating habits - drastically. No wine, no sugar, no gluten no nothing unless it is fresh vegies, beans and rice - a pretty vegan diet. <br/>SO, I go to the store today for a fresh salad. (Albertsons has a great salad bar). Lots of fresh spinach, red lettuce, cukes, brocoli, garbonzo beans, sunflower seeds - you get the picture. I made my own Italian dressing this morning so I have it in the car. Then I grab 2 bags of organic rice cakes - no salt. I saunter up to the checkout and get in line. <br/>In front of me is a rather large man. On the checkout were his items: 1 doz glazed donuts and two different iced drinks from Starbucks, complete with the whipped cream and sprinkles. <br/>I started laughing out loud. The poor guy did not know what to think of this maniacal woman laughing behind him. All I could think of was the huge amount of sugar that was about to be ingested by one or two or three people. Then I remembered that I used to eat that stuff just 3 weeks ago. <div>I got to host Nadira 2 weeks ago and I got to take workshops with Ava Fleming this weekend. And in March I got to take workshops with Tiffany Bisoconer in Richland. Not to mention the ladies Sidonia brings in and the workshops for Fusion Fest! So, in less than 5 hours away from Boise, I have the privelege of taking workshops with some pretty amazing teachers. My brain is so full of new ideas and I am so energized in the dance. I can't wait to work on some of the new stuff that is rolling around in the old noggin! <br/>I really feel that we in Idaho are very fortunate in the caliber of dancers and teachers that we get in the area. Most importantly, I feel that we are so very fortunate to have such a close knit and family like dance community around here. And frankly, I am worried. <br/>I try to shop and purchase locally - fruit vendors, mom and pop shops, restaurants, etc. And if not local, I try for natural, US made and produced items. I would rather pay $5 bucks more for a shirt or skirt that I know is made here in the US than ship my money over to China. <br/>And as a business owner, I produce and supply (IMHO) products that are top quality and available for purchase at my own little shop, not to mention the custom orders that I am happy to work on. Skirts, harem pants, tops, cover ups - you name it and I can probably sew it for you at a competitive price. And if I can't do it, I know someone who can and they all reside here in the Northwest US! <br/>There are certain items that I am not able to make, for instance hip scarves. I import them from a family business based in Cairo. To the best of my knowledge, they do not use child labor, they pay the workers a fair wage and send me a pretty impressive product which I then stock in my shop. And pants - I am not good at making the really cool flair pants, but I can send you to some pretty impressive sites that stock the pants. They are good quality and based in the northwest and the US. <br/>My point is this: Yes - you can find sites that offers "cheap" costuming items. But at what cost to the rest of us? I am all for bargain hunting and I love finding a great deal. I also believe in paying a fair price for an item of quality and I firmly believe you "get what you pay for". If it is such a cheap price, WHY? Are they paying a fair wage? Are they using child labor? What is the quality? <br/>It is very frustrating to me to sew my butt off and stock my shop so that I can try to compete, and then someone comes flitting up and says - "I found this great site with really cheap clothes that ship for free - we need to order from them and save some money" Are you really saving any money? <br/>I know that the world is a global economy - the fabric I buy is generally made outside the US - have you ever tried to find fabric that is wholly US made? Not easy, believe me. Anyway, most clothing and jewelry items have components from outside the US. <div>Thanks everyone. I did some reading of my own and yes they did say henna should not come in all different colors. There must be additives natural or otherwise in the Rainbow henna mix. I will stop using that brand. Also realized that the water here is very heavy in iron and that might be making my hair very brittle. I Also I believe that the hair products I have been using, Frutis Garnier , has a lot of silicone in it and it created a build-up so I discontinued using and that also helped. What helped most was washing my hair with baking soda and rinsing with apple cider vinegar. There was an immediate 50% improvement after that. I will try to get virgin henna and mix my own blend to get the auburn effect. <br/> <br/>Question: Since henna only will dye your hair red do I have to use indigo to get my hair medium auburn or can I use coffee or teas to get it to be that color? <br/> <br/>Thanks...... I am aiming for May 31 - Saturday from 8 - 3 and advertising it in the Statesmen and Boise Weekly. <br/>10 x 10 spaces will be marked out, and you can reserve your space for $10.00. You can bring whatever you want - belly dance items, clothes, household goods - all the various and assorted good stuff that goes in yard sales. I will take care of the advertising, posting of the signs and provide the bathroom!! You are not only an entertainer, but my friend and mentor and thank you does not even begin to cover it all. <br/> <br/>Kelvin and Kristin. I already got all mushy on you both, but the incredible amount of energy and committment you two gave is amazing. Kelvin, the extras and the details that you took care of for me are far too numerous to list. You saved my rear. I will buy your cokes the next time we are at the Buffalo Club. Hazam has graciously accepted the invite to be the evenings emcee. Dancers, remember that I need your intro (30 words or less) and your music at the same time. <div>I was driving to the Saturday Oreet workshop, and suddenly I realized I had forgotten to double-check the location and map. The workshop was being held at some dance studio in the Fairview area (the Frank Miller studio, because that makes all kinds of sense http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Miller_(comics) ). I was on Chinden near HP, and kept missing turns to go south. So I pulled over and walked, and ended up in this woodsy park. I found the studio there, and walked in the door right at 10:00. <br/> <br/>Turns out, the workshop had started at 9:30. There she was, teaching this bizarre little diagonal step with legs very tightly locked together - a very penguiny kind of look. She had people travelling with it across the floor one at a time, and I walked in just in time to see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson taking his turn across the floor. Yes, The Rock was there taking Oreet's workshop. There was also some rap artist there who apparently thought enough of himself to bring along an entourage of security guys, but I didn't know who he was. <br/> <br/>I never got a chance to learn anything dance-related, because at this point Oreet started a tour around the workshop area...the one side, where she was involved in filming a western, and she showed us how to drag back a handcuffed man who was trying to escape by crawling under a fence; and then the back of the room, which had a bunch of props from the various Star Trek TV shows and movies on display. <br/> <br/>Somehow at this point I realized I was dreaming (gee, what could have clued me in?), but I was still thinking it was the night before and that the workshop really started at 9:30 in an unfamiliar location; so I was standing in front of a mirror telling myself "leave by 8:45" several times. <div>The planning is going forward and things are starting to come together for my Spring event - Oasis Dreams. <br/>Won't tell who is coming in until it is confirmed, but let's just say this woman can dance!!!
