Hello everyone!
This is my first post here so my apologies if I am repeating things that have been posted before...
I am really interested to learn more about the fine differences in all the egyptian styles, the exact moves, significant hand postures, cultural background, etc... Does anyone know of a good DVD?

Re: shaabi, baladi, saiidi, Khaleegy, classic, modern, etc
Sun, January 20, 2008 - 11:57 AMI don't know of any DVD's, but Sahra Saeeda is an instructor who teaches those things. She's doing a Friday-through-Sunday workshop on that topic in Los Angeles later this month, and another in San Francisco in May. -

Mon, January 21, 2008 - 12:16 AMI'm attending Sahra's workshop this coming weekend and really looking forward to it. She is such a wealth of information. Sahra does quite a bit of traveling too though. So I would recommend keeping an eye out for when she comes near you. -

Sun, January 20, 2008 - 3:54 PMSarita,
thank you thank you thank you!
It looks like the set of 5 DVD's is closest to what I would like:
1. Music & Instruments.. 2. Classical Oriental Dance
3. Folkloric Dances of Egypt..4. Modern ..5.Tabla Solo
"Filmed in Cairo, this set is a complete guide to Egyptian musical instruments, movements and styles. Keti's series is designed to teach musical understanding for bellydance, rhythmic interpretation, dance movements and techniques relative to style and genre. See routines, choreographies and Keti's live performance in costume. Plus documentary footage of Egyptian performers, and 'how-to-do' explanations. Each video 1 hour - note: 5 parts filmed as a full follow-on series. Suits all levels."
Plus a free cd.
And all the reviews seem to be great!

Mon, January 21, 2008 - 2:23 AMGood morning Sarita, and Sandra.
I was peeking through the posts and came across this one, i used Sarita's link and found the 5 C.D set you spoke of.
It does look a very good instructional set, but at the price will have to wait untill i come back from Italy to get it.
Does anyone know of any classes held in Naples, Italy?
I keep trying to research it up on the net, my dance teacher said it might be a good idea to try a class while i'm out there -

Mon, January 21, 2008 - 11:34 AMI haven't seen Keti's stuff but Aisha Ali did a really good series of documentaries on North African Dance. If you can read in between the lines then you can get a lot out of it.
