I hesitated to post this as I'm sure it may seem like solicitation to some but for others it may be a diamond in the sand.
As many people know, Tibet has a unique type of medicine which has been influenced by Tantric Buddhism as well as pre-Buddhist Ayurveda, native Shamanism, Chinese, Unani and Greek medicines (some of the latter included during the height of the silk route). It is decidedly eclectic and many of it's methods have been made more famous by modern Russian physicians and Western psychiatrists.
For the last 15 years or so, I have been in regular communication with a Tibetan doctor/priest in N. India (in a community named Bir, not too far from Dharmsala). Tulku Pema Lodoe was 'discovered' at a young age by the Karmapa (one of the most famous 'reborn' priests of Tibet) and practices in a small clinic treating people in the refugee community there. He is a skilled astologer (Tibetan medicine and astrology are closely linked) and Tibetan/English translator. As he is an unmarried priest and was born into an ancient father-son medical lineage, it is clearly one of the few opportunities for students to learn from his lineage. His father is quite elderly and is still alive, as well (traditionally in this type of family the son learns from the father throughout life). I have been glad to be his sponsor during these years and regularly ask him various questions about herbs, Buddhism, etc., ... when I send him a check. As his is partly an oral tradition I have learned many things which I would not have been able to access through books or even other Tibetan priests I may have encountered. I have often thought I might go visit but with having a business here it does not seem likely that I will for some yrs., at least.
So, as I can't make it there and and my funds are small I thought I'd put out the info to others who might have an interest in Tibetan Medicine or Buddhist healing in general. He offers astrological readings by mail and could certainly use more sponsors.
Over the yrs. he's given me many precious pearls of wisdom, answered many questions and given many other wonderful gifts (dudtsi, medicines, statues, etc., ...) as well. If anyone is interested in receiving an astrological reading in English (they are $30.00 U.S.), making a donation (please tape envelope edges) or being an ongoing sponsor his address is:

Yes, recently he started being able to. Thanks for asking. Taping the edges of the envelopes is wise since the mail seems to sometimes 'fall open' in route in India.
I thought of some other things I might add. He's from a Drugkpa Kagyu lineage and also does ceremonies with many Nyingma lamas around Bir as well as his usually practices and reading of the classic medical texts (which are huge and often read over again every yr.). He's not prepared to take personal students in Bir but is quite good about answering questions by post. Letters take about 2 weeks each way and it may take him some time to respond depending on what he's doing. I honesty feel my life would not be the same without him.
