Judging has begun! Thanks to everyone who submitted over 125 great images, representing about 80 entries total. We are still collecting feedback on your favorites, so please continue posting comments and topics if you have opinions (new designs will not be considered, however).

A schedule update: we'll be announcing the winner of the contest on the 24th of April, and not on the 21st as first scheduled.

seriously,....there are a lot of designers and artists on tribe who could come up with cooler designs than all four logos!!

just a thought....

(I'm not a big fan of the new look, especially the disney/target -ification and the red, black, gray, and white look....not my thing, i guess)

Please add this crude idea to the contest. The idea is paper dolls connected, and the actual people could be more or less personalized. I am not really an artist, as I suck at drawing, but if this idea could be cleaned up, I think it really represents the concept of the networking people to people possibilities, as well as just the individual members. It's the networking that is the best feature of the Tribe.

Thanks to everyone who's submitted an entry. There are lots of great ones, and it's going to be hard to pick a winner. Keep them coming in, though: the contest ends this Friday and then we'll be entering the Dome of Seclusion to make our deliberations.

If you have favorites and/or opinions, go ahead and post them in a topic or under the entries themselves.

One last thing: there's an "entry form" that might help you with your entries:

Wow. There's some good stuff being posted. I'm glad I don't have to decide, although I wish I could.

It's a shame it won't be put up for a vote, but given tribe's other attempts at democracy, perhaps that's for the best.

Although maybe you could have members vote for the top 5 or something, and then choose from those?

Template a bit too big, displays poorly.

For some reason the template we were given for icon submission is a bit too big to be displayed properly when viewed. This causes a distortion and the illusion of crudeness, which disappears when you click to view actual size. It seems so close to the actual size, can the template be trimmed so it displays without distortion? Am I just being an anal dick about this? And who is coming into my house and dirtying up all my clothes when I'm out? Not cool.

ok, so when i got this email i thought we were suppose to redesing/design the members logo which to me meant creating my own icons (altho quite rough right now, i was just simply going for the idea)....i'm seeing lots of folks using premade fonts and icons that you can just download from the web! what are the legal reprecussions of this i wonder?
and seriously....how lacking in creativity!

Based on some feedback via this tribe, and responses to the personal message that went out last week, I've revised the rules and guidelines to be more clear about our user base from an age standpoint, and the use of non-original work.

DESIGN A NEW ICON, WIN FAME -- AND $100!
We need your help! Based on feedback from our members, it's pretty clear that the Members icon (the smiling people in the masthead) has got to go, and we want you to help us design its replacement. In return we're offering Tribe.net fame, plus $100 in Amazon.com gift certificate goodness to the person that provides the best concept illustrating the following:

- Tribe is a positive place for expressing yourself and your ideas
- Tribe's community spirit includes people of all backgrounds and beliefs
- Tribe is for adults of all ages: anyone 18 and above, with focus on the 22-35 age range
- Tribe's location-based features are designed for major cities and their surrounding areas

ENTER BY FRIDAY, APRIL 7TH, 2006
Submitting an entry is as easy as uploading a JPEG or GIF to the Members Icon tribe, at tribes.tribe.net/membersicon -- just do it before Friday, April 7th.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Each entry must scale to a target size of 48 pixels wide by 36 pixels tall (this is the space available in the Members "bubble" in the masthead. (You may upload larger versions, but make sure each image you upload includes the icon scaled down to 48x36.)

So you've got a design you want to enter, do you? Great -- just upload your design to this tribe's photo album. Here's a link to the upload page:

(These are part of the original contest announcement, but I thought people might have more questions about what the icon could look like.)

As you think about designs for the Members icon, it might help to consider the ideas that we drew on when we originally built this place:

- Tribe is a positive place for expressing yourself and your ideas
- Tribe's community spirit includes people of all backgrounds and beliefs
- Tribe users include men and women in the 22-35 age range, who frequently live in metropolitan areas

Of course, that's not all that Tribe is, and we know that Tribe is many things to many people. Feel free to add your own concepts to your designs.

In addition to above, there are some more technical points to keep in mind:
