Why do you wears kilts/skirts/et al?
Fashion statement, rebellion against convention, fetish, gender equality, just because it feels damn good, none of the above, or all of the above?

Re: Why do you?
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 5:48 PMWell first of all I justed joined, And I'm also on the Kilts and Kiltwearers tribe.
To answer your question I just like to wear it. I also look damm good if I do say so myself. Not to mention it's a great conversion starter with the women. I think the only place were I'm not noticed is at the club Bondage a go go. -

Re: Why do you?
Wed, December 21, 2005 - 6:03 PMbecause it feels right. i love the freedom and the color. i started wearing sarongs when i was 15 in hawaii. when i'm nicely sun roasted on the playa or in the tropics nothing seems more apropos then a loosely clasped skirt. dancing in twirly skirts is also top knotch. and the challenge of dancing in tiny minidresses is always novel.
when i was living in southern india it was so normal it fell beneath notice which was oddly sad for me. so, ya, maybe i like the attention a little too.

Re: Why do you?
Thu, December 22, 2005 - 12:34 PMThanks Leggy for starting the group.
I've been wearing kilts and skirts as a normal part of my waredrobe since sophmore year in high school about 12 years ago. The original reason I started wearing them was to piss off a very conservative teacher who kept sending me to the deans office because he believed I was breaking the school's dress code. I wasn't so I did it just to annoy him.
I continue to wear them just because I like them. They're versatile, cooler than pants in the summer, and warmer then shorts in the fall.
I've gotten both positive and negative comments about my skirts and kilts. I'm asked if im scotish (which im not), if it's a religious thing, if im from india, the usual type of questions. Now that Utilikilts are becoming fairly popular Ive been asked a lot if im wearing one. I dont own one.
It's kinda odd, I've been encouraged to wear my skirts and kilts at my current job because the boss thinks it shows that we're a deverse and open minded work place.
Well yeah, thats me, happy skirting ya'll

Re: Why do you?
Thu, December 22, 2005 - 2:07 PMSorongs are GREAT! There is nothing better than waking up in the morning, wrapping a Sorong, and cooking breakfast for those you love. I was gifted one of the most funky skirts at the Burn, I wear it with pride (not that kind) on special occassions. Burning Man has also openned my eyes to the many functions of Sorongs: shade, turbin, picinic blanket, playing matador, etc. I still have not realized full fledged dancing in skirts but I will practice on the 30th at the Sea of Dreams Party.

Re: Why do you?
Mon, December 26, 2005 - 12:38 AMPretty much all of the above (except the "none of the above" part).
I own a couple of Utilikilts (black workmans and a white workmans I'm about to have dyed eggplant purple), which I love and feel comfortable in pretty much anywhere I go in society. I have a sarong but admit that its pretty much an "at the beach" kinda thing; plus i have a helluva time keeping it on. i also own a variety of womans skirts that have a fairly androgenous cut to them; just like the look and feel when i move in them. Tend to save them for dance or fetish nights. I also have a japanese Hakama, the pleated skirt-like trousers that the samurai wear. Beautiful and oh so stylish but a pain in the ass to wear; way too much fabric to deal with and I trip over the bugger, so its a rare occasion that sees it leave the house. But gimme my UKs any day.
ps thanks for creating this Tribe; most excellent!

Re: Why do you?
Tue, December 27, 2005 - 8:47 PMI guess I first wore a skirt to be odd. Then I became a convert; it was all about comfort. I had a small collection of light cotton hippy-girl skirts that were as airy as walking around nude.
But when I tried on a little black slip, and later a tight knee-high with a slit up the thigh, I discovered how sexy women and drag queens get to feel. I wasn't going to be denied that just because of my gender and sexual orientation.
I've never been into utilikilts, though. The fabric's too heavy, mostly. I covet the pockets, but I just add a toolbelt to my skirt and it becomes a little gender-**** ensemble.
The added attention a skirt gets is just a wonderful, wonderful perk. -

Re: Why do you?
Fri, December 30, 2005 - 8:36 AMI dont know why I like guys in skirts but they just look SO hot. Kilts and Sarongs are my favorite. Maybe it is because they look a little rebellious, maybe because theres quick access ;). I have to admit to rather liking guys in short plaid kilts like the one PQ is wearing in the photo album. Short and naughty ;)
I am not so much in to guys trying to look feminine. I remember once on the London Underground seeing a guy in a short tight leather mini, thick black tights, biker boots and a red/black striped sweater. Boy did he look hot! You see skirts can be worn in the winter too (hint hint) -

Re: Why do you?
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 10:26 AMIt started off as comfort. Like many of you, it was going to Burning Man, and disovering a place where you could do ANYTHING and it was acceptable. So I headed over to Goodwill and picked up a couple of velour full-length skirts. I pretty much lived in them on the playa. When I returned to the city, I found myself wearing one instead of jammies when lounging at home.
Then I pretty much stopped for a couple of years, until I saw some guy out at the clubs wearing a long black skirt, not unlike a priest's cassock. I said "Damn, I gotta get me one of those!". This time it wasn't about comfort - it was all about the look and feeling damn sexy in it. Took me a while to find a "one-legged pant"... which looks great, but since it's pleather, it gets mighty hot in there. So I'll be continuing my search.
Makes me wonder what the future holds...

Re: Why do you?
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 3:28 PMdon't know what it is but I love a man in a skirt/kilt. for me (I think?) it comes down to the guy being comfortable with himself and confident enough to not care what others think. keep the pics coming guys and thanks for starting the tribe leggy!

Re: Why do you?
Sun, January 15, 2006 - 12:32 PMWearing a skirt (along with the rest of a fem outfit) is one way to bring the inner girl into the outside world. I have had thrilling and wonderful experiences being excepted as a woman even though I'm a male. Over time, it has become more of a spiritual thing, seeking to develop that divine feminine side of the inner goddess.

Re: Why do you?
Mon, January 16, 2006 - 7:57 AMI love the free feeling. A skirt and nothing under. I'm part of a german movement to legalize public nudity. Skirts make me feel nude without the legal problems of public nudity... But I rather prefer to be nude.
Two years ago I have been at the Folsom Street Fair. I have been wearing only a skirt. There was a band playing and I danced with my short whide skirt. After a while I put my skirt on stage and danced totally nude. After half an hour (it was about 6) I wanted to get my skirt back, but someone took it. Suddenly, I was there, totally nude and the fair was over...
Pretty exciting. I had to get back to my car. Fortunately I foud a t-shirt to cover myself a little bit. But it was thrilling

Re: Why do you?
Fri, March 17, 2006 - 2:23 AMDepends on the day. Usually, just because I want to. Sometimes, it's to make a statement.
As a cyclist, i get far different reactions from differnet groups. The mountain bikers and fixie riders love it. The roadies... ah, the looks of distain and grumbling make it all worthwhile.
