No doubt there's a Tribe out there somewhere just for footwear fanatics; I'm new on Tribe, and might as well start where I know I want to be specific to this "Men in Skirts" topic.

As much as I love wearing my skirts, proper accssorizing is a bitch. I wear Blundstones most of the year, and they're great with my Utilikilts, but just don't cut it on the dance floor. If I'm in trousers on the dance floor I'm usually in knee boots (trews tucked in or not) but they don't mold my calves well enough for skirts. I've also got thigh cut cavalier boots, but again, just worng in this case (although kinda hot when combined with fishnets and a leather mini or hot pants). I can dance in heels and look good in them, but not all night.

Any ideas on knee high but flat soled boots that would suit a skirt or kilt? I've thought of mocs but worry about the soles holding up, and they're just not "dressy" enough. Same with some of the "medieval/fantasy" wear stuff I've seen. Also, most of those tend to only suit the Ren Fest style, hardly the effect I'm after in a full length black satin slit to the thigh number. I've been eying some of these sort of "bondage meets wrestling meets space cowboy" boots that I'm seeing in a lot of the fashion mags but they're usually ridculously expensive and just don't look like they'd hold up to long nights of ecstatic dance.
I welcome feedback.

What reactions to men wearing skirts have you observed?

I'll start by sharing my limited experience. I have been wearing a discreet long black skirt almost every day for about two month and a half, at first in Paris and then in Edinburgh (it is a lot of fun to wear at airports). Most people seem not to notice, but I haven't had a single negative reaction. Even places in Paris where I was worried to go at first turned out being completely safe.

I have had some very positive reactions from younger women, both friends and strangers. Older ladies seem to do their best to avoid acknowledging the unconventionality, especially in the UK. Many men apparently don't pay attention to what people wear. One time in Edinburgh I was stopped and questioned by a stranger, and he just thought it was cool to see a man wearing a skirt.

I have been asked by different people if I was a Buddhist or a Muslim, and confused for a Catholic priest as I was strolling in a cemetery in Paris. I wonder how many people assume there must be a religious reason for a man to wear a skirt; next time someone asks I suppose I ought to introduce them to Eris.
