Hoodie Mod

Any ideas on putting faux fur sleeves on a hoodie? I have little to no skills sewing and no access to a sewing machine.

The hoodie is a plain black zip-up.

I was thinking of just using that liquid stitch stuff on the seams, and attaching those to the body of the hoodie.

Help please?

I don't think liquid stitch will be strong enough for stress seams (ie armpit). This is assuming you are cutting the sleeves off and replacing them with fur: cut off the sleeves at the seam, cut up the sleeve seam so you have a flat piece. Using that piece as a pattern cut 2 sleeves (fold the fabric together so you only have to cut once) and reattach in the opposite way you took them off, sew up the sleeve seam and attach to the hoody. Since knit fabric and fur are pretty forgiving as far as uneven stiches go you will be fine without a sewing machine, just stitch is as securely as you can to the body of the shirt.

www.sewing.org/html/el_handstittch.html can teach you a bit more about handsewing. I would use a backstitch, it will be very secure.

    hope that helps!

just one note ... DON'T fold the fur fabric to cut 2 at once, this will result in more cut fur hairs than necesary (and hence fur all over your apartment + added moop effect on playa)

take your pattern and draw it onto the back side of your fur with a sharpie (silver works great on dark fur) ... make sure to flip the pattern to do opposite sleeves ... and cut the pieces with an exacto or razor blade, cutting just through the backing, taking care not to cut through the long fur hairs.

i'd also suggest using a heavier thread to hand sew, like buttonhole thread, and knot ther seam often as you sew. this way, if the thread in your seam breaks while you are wearing the hoodie, you won't lose the whole seam, just the section between knots. good luck!

Whoops, my bad on the cutting fur..my mind was in "how to make this simplest" versus "helloooo moop!" land ;)
