I'm not a big heavy guy, but I am stocky. 5'9", 190 lbs. Suggestions for playa wear that will take advantage of my build and be comfy? So many fashions favor the tall and thin, it's hard to know what will look sweet!
I'm working on a few anime/martial arts inspired things, as well as a full fur suit, and would love some design hints from all ya'll.

Re: Stocky guys?
Tue, June 3, 2008 - 5:11 PMHow brave and creative are you? That really helps when thinking about a direction to take.
My Boyfriend is short and stocky, not a little guy at all... He absconded with my tribal tutu mid week and loved it better than anything I had made for him. (The tutu is simple to make, pm me if you like... It was long and full and did very well in the hot daytime.) He also wore stretchy velvet animal print pants. (Because he has nice thick legs and a great tush, they looked extra good on him. His size could balance out the thickness of the fabric without overwhelming him.) I made him some faux fur tigger pants, matching vest, tail, arm warmers and hat with ears... That went over very well and ended up being mixed into several different outfits. For the Burn, he wore a solid white suit, furry top hat, and scarf... He was warm, comfortable, and lit up under the neon, glo sticks, led and black lights... I did a whole Persian robes thing, and that was good for him too.
Really, it is what you feel comfortable in that makes the outfit. If you are confident and having a blast, you will *own* whatever it is that you put onto your body. And that is the important part... Right up there with protection from the different elements.
Best of luck! (Be sure to post your photos!!!)

Re: Stocky guys?
Wed, June 4, 2008 - 10:48 AMWell, take a look at some of what I've worn in the past. I'm pretty brave and, with the help of friends, creative. I do a lot of fun cross dressing on the playa, although a size 14 dress can be hard to find! I'd love to see your designs and some pics of your man in costume.
I think my costume love really took off second burn. We had a virgin in camp who brought some fun dresses and skirts and boots, and I just happened to fit into her shoes with a little squeezing, and her stuff was stretchy. Both I and another camp mate (also the same size boots!) raided her wardrobe and wore womens' clothing in funky combos all week long.
