On cold nights driving RoboShaw (my powered rickshaw), I'll often wear a Australian Driz-a-Bone (duster) over long johns, jeans & a wool sweater & scarf, w/ a pilot's helmet & goggles. A lap robe helps too.. this picture is from daytime; I was cooking for a photoshoot:

Wandering out near the trash fence at four am, the wind is downright nippy.

This year I want to sew some furry stuff ...

I am a committed fan of real fur! Really, nothing beats it for style and warmth. Last year it was too warm to wear most of my fur! I have found many vintage coats in thrift stores that I've recycled into cape, skirt, leggings & arm warmers. Check those thrift stores now, they may have already cycled out the fur for spring stuff, or it may be on super sale.

In years of wearing real fur on the playa, I have yet to be seriously hassled by any anti-fur types. 99% of the response is good, and much of it involves petting and snuggling, adding to its warmth-producing properties! I figure that vintage skins have had all of their karmic burden taken by the original owners. The coyote headdress, made from a new skin, is actually pretty creepy and has freaked out a bunch of 'enhanced' revelers, in good and bad ways.

I have found that fur is a very powerful statement, and it's easy to have too much of it. It works well as an accent, trim or lining, or as a power piece like a cape. Pick a color or group of colors (mine is oranges, warm browns & cream) and use just those. Real fur is trickier to sew than fake, more like leather.

I have always been a fan of ski bibs, or full ski jumpsuits. So comfy, so easy to move in, and unzipped to can be warm and sexy. :) Plus, you can modify a lot, so it makes for a nice base to start from.

I spent days sewing two fur bear outfits for my bf and I for this past years burn. We wore them for 15 mins, and were so hot and miserable they had to come off. Just too damn warm at night this last year.

This year, one of my outfits is a gray bodysuit I found at a military surplus store. I'm painting INGSOC logos on the sleeves, and on the back. It's spacious enough to wear thermals and fleece underneath, while still making a burning statement... especially for something like the American Dream... :)

    Two Words: PLAYA COAT

Full length (mine has room for 2...), faux fur outside, soft & cozy (or silky or whatever turns you on) on the inside, with multiple pockets for water, snacks, and other goodies...

Invest the time, invest the money - whichever you have more of. Make a trade, offer sexual favors, do whatever it takes...

    GET A PLAYA COAT...

I guarantee you won't regret it if you do and I guarantee you'll be jealous if you don't!
