So I've started making a pair of goggles. Gonna be making them from near scratch to fit over my glasses. Cause, well, prescription goggles are too damned expensive, and contacts aren't necessarily the best thing for the playa.
See, I've recently entered into the makeup effects industry, which is giving me a whole slew of skills. Basically, unless it has complicated moving parts, I can make it. Kinda like the T-1000. Well, not really, but yeah.
Anyways, I found a pair of goggles whose frame fit over my glasses, and I happened to have a plaster mold of my head. Assuming the link I'm about to place here works, you can check out what I've done so far.

Sorry to make it a myspace, but that's all I've gotten around to doing so far. Didn't feel like resizing the pictures or signing up for photobucket or any of that stuff. Maybe later. So yeah, that's what I've done so fat. Next thing I gotta do is make a mold of the head+goggles so I have a negative and can make duplicates before I drill the locator holes. And stuff.
Point is, if everything turns out right, I may be able to make custom fit goggles for anyone willing to be life-cast. In other words, if I can cover your head with plaster and alginate.
So here's to hopin.

That, hopefully, is the photobucket link. Can you believe somebody had the name "Datig" already? Man. Anyways, I though I could change the order of the pictures after I loaded them, but couldn't figure out how. They're backwards. There's gonna be more to the project later, when I get time, but that's the beginning of it, at least.
This is a really cool thing to do if you happen to have access to the materials. If you were to get them just for this purpose, it'd be pretty expensive and not really worth it. I'm sure there's other things that can be used, too, but this is just how I'm doin it.
So yeah, more to come when I've done more. -

Re: Fit-to-face goggles
Mon, January 28, 2008 - 3:32 PMAs far as possibilities.. I'm gonna try and see if I can manage to make it (as I dance around words) some sort of a snap-on application so I could make different 'skins,' if you will, turning the one pair into many. That, or just tying to figure out a way to make lenses. As it is, I'm making them to go right on the goggles. Just a little worried about the force of the strap pulling the goggles towards my face and out of the skin.
But time will tell. There are other matters that need to be seen to first, which is why I started doing this so soon. Hopefully, I'll be able to get more done this week. I'll keep you all posted.
