The first encounter held in Lima, Peru, in the summer of 2006 had this features and one of the conclusions reached there was the need to hold a second meeting, since the shaman’s quest for the rescue of human essence is a long way upon which these encounters are nothing more than little steps.

Here we are, we’re still going, working towards the rescue of the true medicine, the one once knew by all mankind and that now prevails in the practices, rituals and techniques of the shamans and healers that took part of the 1st encounter, along with the ones that will take part in the 2nd. These men and women are the main actors of this meeting. Let us all be enlightened by their wisdom.


The adopted motto for the II Encounter wants to signify for the plurality of the Traditional Medicines of High Cultured Indigenous Nations that preserve their own cultures; the plurality of voices and votes, of studies and speakers between nations and cultures of the World in a space that, since the I Encounter, is characterized by convergent and divergent approaches of global and local occurrences.

The Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana de México and the Institute IMTAMPAC are very grateful for the trust placed on them by the international scientific community. The UAM and the IMTAMPAC intend to level up with the I Encounter celebrated in Lima, Peru last year.

Established in the 1980’s, the UNIVERSIDAD AUTÓNOMA METROPOLITANA (UAM IZTAPALAPA) grew alongside the booming of Mexico City linked to the Mexican society and today it is one of the most important Mexican Universities. It maintains a very narrow academic relationship with all countries in the most diverse areas of knowledge, and this facilitates the best atmosphere in every aspect to welcome anyone who wishes to participate in the II Encounter. The UAM has a wide experience in organizing congresses of all kinds and has an excellent substantial infrastructure for the realization of an event with the characteristics and magnitude of this II Encounter. The venue will be the CUICACALLI AUDITORIUM at the Campus IZTAPALAPA of the University.

THE INSTITUTE OF TRADITIONAL AND ALTERNATIVE MEDICINES MÉXICO-PERÚ AC. is a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to the promotion, education and research of the traditional, natural and alternative medicines and other medical systems that exist in our nations of America.

Its goals are:

- to contribute to the improvement of the health and food levels of fundamentally marginal populations, through the promotion and application of ancestral medical systems resources.

- to promote the active participation of local organizations in solving health problems through communal healthcare and specialized medical attention.

- to organize centers for recollecting medicines and food in order to lower their cost, and bring quality service selling traditional medical and alimentary products.

- to promote technologies, healing and diagnosis of traditional medical systems and shamanism.
