I attended Belly Dance USA yesterday in Coos Bay. I was amazed at how laid back things were and what a buncha generally nice people. WOW. I have read about the retreats you do in Bridge in September and always have felt a little shy about attending. But now that I see how pleasant things are in a competitive environment, i don't feel so shy. Of course I understand that things might have been a little more tense behind the curtains. And OMG the vendors.. I got a silk caftan from Silk Lady but only because (wink wink) i will be going into the hospital for knee replacement at the end of July and they say to bring a robe of some kind that is easy to get into.. The caftan will be perfect and its sooo beautiful and soft. So thanks Mezdulene for bringing this wonderful event and the other belly dance events you do to southern Oregon.

Mon, June 16, 2008 - 8:08 PMI am glad you enjoyed yourself. I can speak for "behind the curtains" .. things are just as pleasant back there. You will see dancers lending pins and hands to pin things, jewelry etc.
And enjoy the Ladysilk.. they are the best.

Wed, June 18, 2008 - 8:23 PMTo be quite dead honest and frank...
as a competitor, I actually *expected* things to be a little dicey backstage, with nerves and all. I could not have been more mistaken. Some of the loudest Cheering came from backstage, and everyone everyone everyone was absolutely lovely and supportive of each other.
You simply must come to camp, if your knee permits.... I doubt very much if you will ever find such a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Re: A wonderful afternoon and evening
Sat, August 30, 2008 - 3:21 PMSo here i am a month off of the knee replacement. I think it's going pretty well but its kind of frustrating how long it's taking to be "normal" or in this case better than the normal i was used to. The Ladysilk cover up was a big hit in the hospital.. everyone who touched it,,,, even the guys said... OOOoooo that's nice... The bag was perfect for the stuff i had to take to the hospital. I am holding out hope that perhaps i can make it to the retreat. The biggest issue at this point is not so much pain, but that i get TIRRREEDDDddd quickly.. Also.. minor issue... my car has a manual transmission which means the new left knee gets a work out when i drive.. Sooo maybe not this year.. but next year for sure.
