I attended Belly Dance USA yesterday in Coos Bay. I was amazed at how laid back things were and what a buncha generally nice people. WOW. I have read about the retreats you do in Bridge in September and always have felt a little shy about attending. But now that I see how pleasant things are in a competitive environment, i don't feel so shy. Of course I understand that things might have been a little more tense behind the curtains. And OMG the vendors.. I got a silk caftan from Silk Lady but only because (wink wink) i will be going into the hospital for knee replacement at the end of July and they say to bring a robe of some kind that is easy to get into.. The caftan will be perfect and its sooo beautiful and soft. So thanks Mezdulene for bringing this wonderful event and the other belly dance events you do to southern Oregon.

Tribal Oasis Canceled

As many of you know, I had to cancel my event due to a lupus flare up. It was a difficult decision, but there was no other choice with this illness. It's been in remission for about 3 years, and is now attacking with full force.

I want to thank everyone who has emailed me with good wishes and sent me healing energy and light, and to let you know that it has really helped me keep my spirits up. Every day is a physical challenge, but with your support, I have been able to stay emotionally positive which will help immensely in getting this back into remission.

I look forward to seeing you at events later this year.

Life issues

The past two months have been filled with stress for me, stress way beyond my normally stressful life. At some point I might blog about it, but for now, just know that I am strong and I will persevere. And, please know that even if I haven't kept in touch, I do value you and appreciate you in my life.

I am looking forward to the Tribal Oasis festival, dancing, seeing my friends, just having some fun. I'm looking forward to 2008 being a better year for my health and other life happenings.

And, I wish everyone a wonderful, prosperous and joyous NEW YEAR!

Retreat question for Mezdulene...

Hey, i have a friend who bought her ticket for retreat already, and went in later to buy her girlfriends ticket using the same credit card, and it was denied...Shes got money, so it wasn't becuase of that and shes written several times and not gotten a response as to whether or not she could not use the same card to buy more than one ticket or something. She's not even sure at this point, if it went through already, and thats why it wont process again...can I give her some info? Shes freaking out over the lack of communication.

11am to 1pm, $25/30 Thrilling Technique! Bigger hip drops, more precise isolations, more lavish layers for your shimmies! Two hours of drills, traveling steps and, of course, endless shimmies.

2pm to 4pm, $25/$30-- Down on the Doum: Arabic Rhythms and Movement Learn how to identify, interpret and express Middle Eastern rhythms. Explore different rhythms and gain the confidence to dance with live musicians or approach the music you already own with a new ear.

New Studio

My husband, Don and I purchased a building on the main drag in Sutherlin, and I now have a new studio in my very own building. We've had several classes in there so far, and it's a warm space even without decor and enough mirrors. I'll post photos one of these days.

I'm also opening a dance boutique and rock, gem, jewelry, crystal....shop in the front of the building. It's exciting and tiring.

Our grand opening hafla will be on Oct. 28 with live music by Wayne and Dunyah of Americanistan. We'll have festivities all day, but the potluck and dancing will start five-ish.

EVERYONE is invited!!

Well Susan and I talked about this last night at the Mystical Oasis Festival [which was very fun]..
Anyway here is an idea for helping in a small financial way.

A "VIRTUAL CONTEST"
I will design an entry form and post on tribes.. You print out the entry and fill in the information. Your dancer name...what you are dancing to... your costume...and a picture of you in it ! [the Kuchlin and family/friends can make a scrap book of them] and then also anything unique or totally awesome about you dance...I myself think it is time for the Turkish Drop - and I have a feeling it is going to be perfect ! Then mail it the address that will be on the entry form along with you entry fee. Now the fee is your choice on amount. Those of us who have done contest know it is usually $20 to $40 to enter but novice..like a hafla entry $5 is great too. [really what ever you can contribute I am sure is more than appreciated]
I think that as far as choosing "Winners" I have a feeling it will be a hard decision and probably a TIE... maybe we will need a dance off at a later date ?!?!?

This is long overdue, but important all the same. Thank you Mezdulene for another great reatreat! Perfect weather, great workshops, and more new friends to meet. With record numbers of women this year it all went very smoothly. I like that workshops were offered twice to accomodate everyone. I'm already looking forward to next year. This has become an important event to my group and I encourage my students every year to attend. The friendships and connections made here are precious and long lasting. It's a great place to network with many beautiful and like-minded women. Thanks again Mez!

oh my what a dream....

Ok so had to share the dream I had last night....

So we are at retreat and Mez is in Boston so she has left me and Halima in charge...first mistake....we are at dancing saturday night and here comes a MAN into the dinning hall he says that he would like us to let a someone know he is there....He gets really dirty looks from all the women....I go outside to speak with him and he says he is here to suprise his wife for her birthday, there is another man outside with him....I go to speak to Halima she says she thinks it's ok but not sure...I go back outside and there is more men like five....I freak because there is no more beds....the wife says she is sure she emailed Mez and although she did not get a reply she is sure it is fine....I say no way and tell them they have to leave... they say " Oh well let's just trash the place and leave..." after they leave the woman is crying and she points to a board on the tree and says see there is five men listed on the board....I say oh I am so sorry we could call them back she say she can't because there is no cell service... I call Mez because of the mess and she says yes there are five men at retreat this year but they are not them. Mez tells me that the men are from some fancy troupe but it's really Ok because they are a cross dressing troupe and look like women.....Hehe what a nightmare.....
