Columbian Exposition DVD: Fine Art, Belly Dancing, Architecture, Inventions at www.columbianexpo.com ..
Experience the America of 1893 through a cinematic visit to Chicago's Columbian Exposition. Many of the world's greatest achievements in art, architecture, science, technology and culture are unveiled there, everything from the finest Victorian paintings to the belly dancing of Little Egypt. Dubbed the "White City," it inspires future innovators like Henry Ford and Frank Lloyd Wright, debuts the Ferris Wheel and Cracker Jack, and, in many ways, marks the beginning of the 20th century. Filmed in High-Definition, EXPO - Magic of the White City immerses viewers in the Victorian Age and its greatest innovators such as Westinghouse, Edison and Nikola Tesla.
Any critiques..anyone have this and would like to comment? Because if you 'buy' it then I may 'BUY' (purchase) it too!
For the record I'm 38 and wouldn't remember the Columbian Expo anyway :-), ~LINNY~

Re: Am I the only one who didn't know about this DVD (or am I still livin back prior to 1893)?
Sun, January 8, 2006 - 4:37 AMohh lala I'm glad that the Ladies board didn't succeed in taking down the belly dance. They should've tried it themselves.

Sat, January 14, 2006 - 1:05 PMI'm curious about the video (world's fairs are another hobby of mine) but if the pictures of the dancer on the website are any indication, they got a lot wrong... -

Re: Am I the only one who didn't know about this DVD (or am I still livin back prior to 1893)?
Thu, February 2, 2006 - 7:54 PMI rented this a few weeks ago from Scarecrow. It was alright, although they interspersed footage of maps, diagrams, and old photos, which were really cool, with seriously annoying and useless live footage, including the bellydancer which was just, I don't know, but it bore absolutely zero resemblance to anything they might have seen at the fair and IMO was a giant waste of time. And they were still spewing the "Little Egypt scandalized people at the fair" myth, which, seriously, people need to get over.
But there was a lot of other interesting info about the fair. I wouldn't buy it though, and especially not for the bellydancing.
