Bellydancing and Pregnancy

Hey,

I am a bellydancer in Mississippi and closing in on being 5 months pregnant and I am defintely begining to show. Because of this, my costuming choices and attention to my physical limitations are becoming more of a concern. In recent months Michelle Campbell has become my patron Goddess for the archetype of a shining example all the beauty that is possible in a pregnant bellydancer. I was wondering if anyone (or Michelle herself) had any details of her expierence or how long she danced before her due date. If anyone else has any advice or stories to share on the matter that would great. This is also my first pregnancy so I need all the information and advice I can get!

Shimmy-a-thon 2006 planning is underway- mark your calendars for Sept 23rd. Last year's event raised over $16K for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and we are hoping to raise $20k this year.

For those of you who participated, donated or came to the event last year, thank you for your support and we hope we can count on you again this year! We have some exciting things planned for this year's event; so keep an eye out to www.shimmyathon.com for updates and information when it becomes available. Currently information about last year's event is out there; so those of you who missed it can get an idea of what we are about.

Who are Your favorite Belly Dance musicians?

One of mine is Phil Thornton in which I'm searching.

He along with Fritz Heede & Micheal Beach (with whom I can find all
over the place) are my three sources for the Best BELLY Dance music
I could or would ever want to hear. That's what I used to use/play
all of the time before I once again (after leaving it for a minute)
am 'back into the Dance'.

i could NOT help myself!!!!!!!!!

we are still waiting for the baby to make his grand debut. i am really excited, but not at all in a rush. due dates are just an estimated time....really he isn't considered "late" for 2 weeks after the due-date.
and don't worry, miah is doing everything he can to induce ;)

it's crazy cause everywhere i go i am asked:
A) when my due date is (was).
B)if i'm just soooooo over it.......
which i'm not!!!!
i am ready for him when he is ready. i AM getting pretty uncomfortable these days, but there is just nothing like feeling your baby move inside you. and i know once he's out , he'll never be back in, so i treasure every day he's still inside me.i am super excited for him. thankyou all so much for your wonderful blessings, advice, kind words, and encouragement. they will be helpful fuel for me during labor.

miah did some henna on my belly, but unfortunately it wasn't very dark , so tomorrow i am having a professional do it.....yeah! we'll take some pics and post them, unless........well, you know!!!!! ;)

Hello y'all!
Ahh Im feeling very blessed and happy. My boy is pretty big, not too surprising since hes 2 weeks past due and I'm 6'5".. he's got long everything. He's very healthy and we're about to be released from the hospital at any minute.. well after mom sleeps after breastfeeding, he just fed from her for the first time and it has made momma sleepy. So we were trying to do all this in the house...but after long hours and the dialation going from 8 back to 6, michelle totally tired, her midwive ssuggested we got to our hospital. It is a very nice hospital, very good experience here with them. There are midwives on staff and it's a very passive birth center... so no real complications with the birth, we just had to wait for him to position his head properly, thats what caused the hold up in the house. So it seems like all is fine, he's been released, now Im just waiting for the sleepy two to get up so he can meet our pet snakes. heehee. Thanks again for all your concern and love, Namaste

so this morning we had a doctors appointment to take the no stress test. They checked Akasa out, measuring the fluid in there, the life of the placenta, and making sure his heart beat jumped up with his movements. He is doing excellent in all those areas. We also noticed on the monitor that michelle was having small contractions, which she barely notices as light cramps. We got a little view of his face and he looked so cute, he has big lips as far as we can see. anyway..just giving you the latest.. i'm thinking he's going to make his appearance soon..... aumnamahsivaya

Where did my inspiration go?

Somewhere on one of these dance lists there was a beautiful, inspirational affirmation about surrendering to the dance. I printed it out, and carried it around with me. Somehow it got sucked into the wormhole in the bottom of my purse, never to be seen again. I've spent the last two hours scouring my email, and the archives I can't find it anywhere. hello everyone!
first of all let me say how rad you all are and how red my face got when i saw there was a tribe for me.....WhaT tHuuuuuuuu???!!!
so i am here to join my tribe.....that sounds so funny!

as you may have noticed , i dont really go on tribe.
miah ( my partner ) created a profile for me(!!!!!! complete with photos and interests !!!) to try to get me into it, but i just never got into it.
hence my apologies to everyone who has invited me to be their friends and not had a response yet, i will answer! and i will try to check my tribe account on a more regular basis.

i have been preparing for the birth of our baby boy. he is due on thanksgiving, but i am considered full-term now, so he could decide to grace us with his presence at any moment now. it is the most AMAZING, wonderful, beautiful, trippy thing ever!!! i have loved being pregnant. and now i am just so excited to meet him , and see him and hold him, and see miah hold him. we are naming him akasa ( pronounced akasha...it means sky and space in sanskrit.....but i guess miah already filled y'all in on this, eh?....oh my , he is so entertaining!)

at this time, i am obviously not touring with the bellydance superstars. i did do the uk tour and glastonbury festival with them a few months back when i was just about 3-4 months pregnant. i MISS rachel, mardi and sharon a LOT. although i cannot convey how wonderful it has been to stay in one place ( seattle for the time-being ) for so long, and not be living out of a suitcase in a different hotel, in a different city every night......touring is GRRRRRueling.....do not be fooled!

OK I'm new to the tribe but I know a lot of you guys from other tribes anyway.

I just have to say that the pregnant pic of Michelle is like the cutest thing I've ever seen. I thought she couldn't be any cuter than she already was but I was wrong.

She looks awesome!

I WISH I had looked that good when I was pregnant.

I think I bore a striking similarity to Shamu when I was pregnant : P

- Go Go Dancing (this is not stripping...ever seen a diva on a block at a dance club?)
