Saturday night was the last night here for a group that I did 3 gigs for this past week. 800 peeps..... all white theme... great decor bar was outstanding,,, video screens everywhere and I did my light show which I don't get to use often... I did 2 hours of OT which gave them almost 4 hours of dance music.....

Biggest thrill of the night was people REALLY getting into the "Bhangra" music that I played,,, so cool... anyway long day/night, but really fun....

I Was Paid $950.00 Last Night

$950.00 last night, not big to some, but ok for me.... now how much do you think the client paid for me???????

I played 70 mins out of a 4 1/2 hour company party.

Let's see....

I charge my agent $950.00
My agent is hired by the hotel, they charge $1600.00 for me
The hotel charges the client?????? I dunno, but I would bet they add on at LEAST $400.00, so that means the client is paying about $2000.00 for me...

so I ask, does that mean I am a cool kid becuase I am a $2000.00 DJ? LOL

I have another gig for the same company tonight!

3 Days 3 Shows

Friday... I did a two hour LDS dance... Mormans for those of you who don't know... 12th grade to 9 graders... The music list that came straight from Provo Utah and I was told that I HAD to play ONLY that music and take no requests!!!

The hip hopissh song allowed was Pon De Replay.....and that was also the newest song allowed... I got them up with the Electric Slide and the Cha Cha Slide....About and hour into the show the lady incharge told me not to worry about the list, just play something they will dance to..... I had them from that point on!!!

Sat.... Wedding for about 40 people at the Fairmont Kea Lani... with Karaoke.. B&G from New Yark Fun stuff but there were 3 locations, wedding, dinner and party... nothing real special, just fun stuff

Sunday... 40th BD party with Karaoke for the wedding selling lady at THe HYatt at her house,,,, just so you all don't think I only get to play at fancy resorts.... LOL ... highlights,,,, being hit on by a lady wearing a lepord skin shirt and matching hat.... LOL

The fireworks that the birthday boy was lighting with a ,, whatta call,,, butane torch? It was a fun weekend.... Both Sat and Sun were 6 hour shows but flew by.....

My Birthday

Yep, yesterday was it.... I was wrecked because the night before I got home at 4 am from my DJ gig.... But my lovely wife took care of me and we just chilled around the house.

But at 5:30 we had dinner reservations at a new place to eat.... Halii Maile Genral Store.

WOW!!!!!!! this place has THE rep here on Maui and boy does it deserve it! I had the rib eye steak and a Ceasers Salad!! And I started off with a Guava Mai Tai. Honestly,, the BEST steak I have ever had!

Kajira and the Seafood Curry,,,, she was way way happy,,,, of course the class of wine she was drinking helped! LOL She's a cheap date. But the curry was very rich and creamy,,, she says very yummy....

For desert I had the Lilikoi creme brulee in a Almond brittle candied shell with fresh fruit.... To die for!!!!

Kajira had the Mango Sorbet,,, good to, but mine was better! :-)

We came home it was one of those real clear Maui nights... so at about 7:30 we went out to the back yard and sat on the recliners and watched the stars.... Nothing beats Maui stars from our house. Being off the grid in the middle of nowhere there are zero night lights and you can see them like they are shinning little diamonds in the sky......

That mysterious red and blue blinking light in the sky that never moves is kinda strange and freaky,, it never moves,, just floats there... hummmm

Really you can't believe it. With the air being so clean here because of us being so far away and the tradewinds that keep us clear, it is truly humbling to think whatever force made all this, was also caring enough to let me and Kajira end up here in the oh so special spot.

It got down to 70 so it was a tad cold so we went inside to hunker down in front of a warm TV....

All in all a wonderful BD.. mahalo Kajira for sharing it with me.... I love you.....

NYE!!!

Well, no gig tonight for the first time for at least since we been married,,, 17 years,,,, I had one but they canceled so I kept the $250.00 deposit and I get to be home and kiss my wife at midnight.... ummm, if we are awke!

Last year I did the Hard Rock Cafe',,, they wanted me this year, but to play with a band and didn't want to pay my price,,, maybe I should have given them a deal,,, oh well,,, shoulda woulda coulda....

Hope you all have a safe and sane NYE...

Maybe we'll go buy some fireworks and shoot dem off!! Ring it in right....

December was nutty, again, a lot of last minute gigs,,, but I made good money but it is hard on the mind when I think it's going to be slow and don't think it's going good, then all over the place the gigs come in....

Lots of company parties and a few private home ones,,,

I did a 60th BD party where they wanted me to play mosty 60's Woodstock music,,, It was fun....

I'm going to enjoy the next year or so of gigs.....

The Client Paid $2550.00... Yes I am THAT Good! LOL

I had one of those gigs lastTuesday night.... I was sent over to another island Lana'i to do a 3 hour party for a small company, 90 people.. I charged my agent $1500.00 pluse expences,,, the expence's were a $50.00 round trip on da ferry and a $400.00 night room at the Four Seasons where the party was held....

Now my agent was hired by a DMC,, so my agent charges usually $400.00 above my cost,,,, now we are at $2350.00 and the DMC who was hired by the company charges the client, I dunno, but let's just say for fun, and I know that I am just included in the week-long package, but lets say he makes another $200.00 for booking me, so the client is now paying $2550.00 for my little 3 hour dinner/dance party...

October Rules!!!

Been kinda slow these past few months,,, even thought about moving back, I do that when things are slow and money is tight.... but this month is stupid busy!! 11 gigs... Tuesday I even go over to Lanai for the night,,, get to stay at the Four Seasons resort!!

Last Wedensday I had a gig at The Grand Wailea Resort for 40 people, a luau and casino night.. I played for two hours and nobody danced, just stayed at the tables... so it was kinda fun, it was an older crowd and I played music I don't normally get to. At the end of the night I got mad props from everyone...

Cool beans!...

anyway,, hope you have a great month also....

Sometimes Things Get Nutty And I Wanna.....

Sell the cars,,,, save a little extra... buy a little plop of land here on the Hana highway, put up a little grass shack, selling Bar B Que,,, ,, I'll supply coconuts & sell them to the tourist,,, maybe some bananas....

picture that sweet smellin' smoke floating over the highway, making people pull over to grab some ribs for da ride....

what, that's a great name...

"RIBS FOR DA RIDE" sell cold brews & Pepsi, have a bad ass sound system, wear my shorts, flip flops and a aloha shirt, a apron with "Hug Da Haloe" on it....

in the evenings, I'll watch as the sun turns the sky amazing shades of pink, blue, orange and then finally so black that when the stars come out, you think you can just reach up and touch them....

Sometimes on the nights where there is a bright full moon, and the trades bring in a light mist from over the mountains, you can see a moonbow,,,, beautiful and rare...

I'll look up and with shear joy watch as the colors mingle, I'll hear the sound of the ocean on the rocks below, smell the fresh air that has yet to be tainted by the Mainland crud....

Reach over and take ahold of my wifes hand, squeeze it gently and look into her eyes reflecting the stars and say "aloha and mahalo for being my wife"

Busy week-end

Last night was cool, they were from El Salvador but just wanted 70's and 80's with a little Latin thrown in, so I found this really short spanish guy looking for work and I brought him to toss onto the dance floor. He bounced around and people laughed and stepped over him...... paying attention anyone?

Well here I am at the Mobile Beat Magazine 11th DJ Expo in Vegas...

It's been 5 yeras since I have made a convention and boy it it wild,,, I think they are saying something like 3000 dJ's are here and they are all Mobile!!! well some more than others after late night parties! LOL

I hope to hav epics to post here as they get posted other places and I can steal them. Kajira's got the camera in Germany.

But with a bunch of seminars, and golfing and the exibit hall with all the new cool ass goodie, I'm in DJ heaven...

I've re-met DJ's that I haven't seen in years and with my online playgrounds, I am stopped in the hall every few feet getting asked, "is it really that cool to live on Maui?" LOL

December is a wacky busy moth... Last night I did a gig for Nike... they brezzeeeeeee into the Island every year and take over the Ritz Carlton....

big fun!!!

I did a karaoke party for the Pacific Whale Foundation,,, very cool people and great singeers! We belong and they re-newed my membership for free!

I met the guy who started it and he was tall blonde fit and just cool looking. Spends his life on a ship going around chasing whales! But in a good way.

Busy Week-End Coming Up

Thursday I have a kid party 6 - 12 year olds 45 of them... games, karaoke and fun!! Basically I'm a hig priced baby sitter!!

Dhyana, one of Kajira's bellydancers will be coming with me so she can help manage the kids...

Friday will be spent preping my Saturday gig..

It's at the Grand Wailea, outside and a full show... I have not done a full light show in awhile and I am planning on doing some special lighting if they will get me the power...

I am figuring on a 5 hour set up, maybe more and a 2 hour take down... I will do this by myself becuase I usually make this stuff up as I go and really it wouldn't do any good for me to have someone there....

I'll take my swimsuit and take a dive after the set! :)

I had to meet these people 6 times at their home, talked to them on the phone more times than I can remember and at the gig, Daddy was DRUNK!!!!

Turns out Dad was a guy who had something to do with some internet company called Hotels.com, founder or something like that,,,

The Mayor of Maui was there!! all the "big hitters" I am told...

I didn't play enough games, but the night was fun... and I got a $150.00 tip on top of the $1300.00 price tag.... not a bad night...

The Circus gig was for the NFL Players Assoc. and it was a Karaoke gig.... cool beans also...

April is an outstanding month which is cool cause I gotta pay my taxes!! LOL

Been Kinda Slow....

Jan suked as a gig month... Feb was just ok,,, March is looking up... I've got gigs for BMW and the NFL Players Assocation,,, those should both be fun..

Tomorrow night I will be doing a party for a company from Texas and am told that they want to party Hawaiian style....

so what the heck is that suppose to mean? They all run around in hula skirts and eat poi???

LOL I dunno..

Last week I did a party for a company from Canada and they had a road rally... I posted a pic of my set up... the rain came later and shut us down about an hour early,,, but I got paid the whole amount.. it was fun, they had about 40 people.. the gigs here are small....

Santa Wife and her Elf DJ Phil were very good to me this year!

I bought the Bose PAS speaker system and Elf Phil gave me a extenal hard drive with cool lights on it and it also has about 37,000 songs on it.

He took me to Costco and we bought a laptop, so wow... new stuff...

Cruise Ship Party

The Pride Of America Norwiegin (sp) Cruise Lines... They come to the Islands and dock here. They looked on the internet and for an DJ agent in New York, they looked for DSJs on Maui and I was the one who took the gig! :)

The gig itself went great. I was in paid in cash and even got a $60.00 tip.

Lots of people there, and the boat DJ did a long set to the delight of his peeps!

They have a couple of DJ guys on the ship that call themselves "The Nocturnal Music Crew" LOL So I watched as he spun,, kinda cool, but he was not open to requests.

I checked with Justin (the guy who hired me) before I did that and he said it was ok. In fact he said that I could let him spin the whole time, but I didn't. The guy was sad that Justin didn't hire him to play, but they don't have any mobile gear onboard, so it made him happy that I let him use my gear. They all thought my stuff was great! I like that! :) (ego!)

Lots of people wearing Halloween scary, sexy, stupid stuff. It was pretty funny.

It was said to have 600 people,,, but looked more like 400,, but it was packed on the deck.

The food was GREAT!!

The bad part was getting my gear on the ship, and having to wait in the security line to be scanned. But it was all good.

1st School Dance

So I attened the first school dance of the year for Burnett Middle School in San Jose. Here is my full report on the DJ -

1. No interaction whatsoever with the crowd and no interative songs
2. Did not take requests
3. Played three songs twice each throughout his 2 hour set.
4. Crappy lights.
5. Had one weird girl in the back of the stage doing nothing.

Boo.

I give him 1 star. He sucked. I wish I paid enough attention to grab his website off his t-shirt so that I could tell everyone who this horrible dj was - maybe I'll look around and see if I can find him.

Off Island Gig - The Aftermath!

ok here is how it broke down....
Air Carge to and from Maui to Hawaii - $659
Airfaire for same------------------------- $129
Hotel for 1 night-------------------------- $192
Van Rental ------------------------------- $212
Pay for 2 1/2 hour Small system------- $800
Per Diem----------------------------------$50
Base Total ------------------------------- $ 2,042.00

I know that the agent had to take something on, but I do not know how much

The gig was for some people from Brazil,,, sexy samba dancing ladies and guys who stood around and watched.

It was pretty easy and all the details pretty much went off without a hitch.

I'd do it again, but I would ad a off-island surcharge of maybe $250 for the hassel....

Punk Wedding

The wedding I did last Saturday had Lars, the lead singer from Rancid as the best man... His lifelong bud Gorgy got married here on Maui..

It was way fun and the music I got to play was ...ummm... unusual for a DJ!! LOL

With the help of my buddy DJ SkinnyGuy we did a party for the kids of the parents that are here for a Toyota retreat!!

3 hours of fun and games and SkinnyGuy mixin' it up big time!!

WHOO HOO!!

lots o' little brats running around,, it was an easy $800 on a Wedensday night... just the speaker on a stick sound system and my game box... I hope to do more of these... :)

Layla's Music @ Tribal Fest

Our own DJ Layla came by the Tribal Fest bellydance show my wife and I put on.. She brought me some CD's of her stuff and I played some of them during breaks!! What a set,,, damm girrrl!!!

I also used her down-tempo cd while I was getting a massage on Monday... my wife loved it !!!

Karaoke is big on Maui...

I have 3 Karaoke shows this week. I did one last Saturday night for Harmon Management,,, they own KFC and Taco Bell.. 400 people frpm all over the states!! Drinking, singing,,, big party!!

I have one tonight and tomorrow night at the Grand Wailea Resort, small 40 people, but tomorrow night there is also a Luau complete with fire dancers! WOOO HOOO
