We are flying this year, and I'm awful damn happy about it. The only other time of our past 9 trips when I flew happened to also be the year Kitty got airlifted out of the event!

We are doing our standard trip again - in to Fernley on Saturday evening, spend the night, shop Sunday AM, and drive up to the overflow lot mid-afternoon on Sunday (same as we did last year; I thought it was pretty fun that way!).

On the way home we will leave the playa as early as possible Monday and go to Reno, eat the buffet at the Nugget, spend Monday night there, and fly home Tuesday AM.

What's everyone else doing? It would be fun to hang out on both ends again....

Number 10 for us!

We're leaving Friday morning and getting into Fernley on Saturday evening, we'll likely head out the same time you do and hit the overflow party also!

I liked the overflow party. *grins* IN my heart, my first camp will always be 3:15 and Will Call.

This time we will be prepared for the overflow party...with all proper eating utensils and survival gear!

Once we depart the overflow party our group is "planning" to set up camp around 8:30 and C or deeper...Not too far from Porto's and Medical...so we can keep our pregnant lady alive...

do you think 8:30 & C will be clear?... Based on my own experiences, I've found it next to impossible to get any closer than E level without being a registered theme camp.

(Shrug)...We'll be happy with whatever...We're going to start looking at C and work our way up the alphabet til we find something...that's all...two years ago we were at 7:15 and Fate...and we found that spot on Sunday afternoon...we loved it there.

When do they release the city map? (IE so we know the names of the streets?)

aaaand the theme camps are placed, if people want to look through and be near to anything in particular.

and because I felt like seeing what's around, my first pass results. First off, The Deep End is at 9:00 & F. This won't be blasting tunes when we park, so we don't want to be right next to them, but a couple blocks away might be nice if anyone likes to party when it's light out. Root Society is still holding down 10:00 & esplanade, Opulent still at 2:00 & esp.

                    Other fun parties I've liked: Philadelphia Experiment - 8:00 & Esplanade, Red Nose District - 5:00 & Esplanade, Green Gorilla Lounge - 10:00 & A.

Other stuff around where we're hoping to camp: The Duck Pond - 9:00 & E (played a set there last year, beats & giant slip n slides during the day), Snow Koan Solar - 7:30 & C (solar battery charging & snow cones), and our friend/former camp leader Ron should be at 7:30 & A. And from placement it looks like the red light district is along 7:30 this year.

Well, if you look at the map that was posted down-thread ( www.burningman.com/media/do...8_map.pdf ), the theme camp placement looks to be in the blue-shaded areas -- I think. Much of 8:30 is white, so considered "clear". We may have to wait until a more detailed map is released or created to be sure, but if we manage to get in and on our desired space before anyone else, we may stand a decent chance at getting our desired spot. The theme camps used to be a lot more crowded along the Esplanade-D streets, but starting last year they made a huge effort to spread them out along the radials so that there would be more interaction with the city.

In any case, I think that meeting up in Fernley on mid-afternoon Sunday and driving out together so that we more-or-less stay together sounds like an awesome plan to me!

Paul and Kitty: Good luck with flying out! Whyrd and I did it for our first 5 years of going home to BRC, and it was a lot of fun. Reno is a tiny city, but it has a lot of awesome stuff folded in their streets.
