Hi,
I am trying to organize a group to go to Burning Man in 2010 from Eau Claire WI. The only trouble is that none of us have ever been there and we don't know anyone that has. I am just doing some initial digging around for resources and people to contact that might be close to my area and I figured that this would be a good place to start. So, if anyone has advice I am all ears.
Thanks

Re: Wisconsin Virgins
Sat, February 7, 2009 - 2:42 PMHey, there is a huge crew that leaves from Minneapolis every year. So, we should be able to help you out.
Did you mean to say you are organizing for 2009 or are you really planning for next year? -

Sun, February 8, 2009 - 6:29 AMThis year is a bit soon for many of us. We also set that date because we didn't know anyone going down there and wanted to make sure we would be able to be prepared for it. -

Sun, February 8, 2009 - 9:39 AMWell, that's good that you are making a realistic choice for all of you to feel prepared.
For my first experience in 06 I made the decision to go the week before it started and I feel it was a great decision for me.
I recommend reading everything in the survival guide because I didn't even know it existed by the time we got there and our tent broke down the second night because it didn't survive the wind. So, we ended up sleeping on couches around center camp and at other camp sites. I enjoyed that experienced, but I can see how it wouldn't work for a lot of people. www.burningman.com has all the resources you'll need including great instructions on how to build things like evaporation pools.
Did you guys have any specific questions about Burning Man?

Re: Wisconsin Virgins
Sun, February 8, 2009 - 12:01 PMPaul is spot on, Nathan - the BM site has a wealth of information. One thing I would add is that there is a very well-organized community in Wisconsin. The regional contacts in Wisconsin are Eric G. and Russian Wolfgar, they can be contacted by sending an email to wisconsin(at)burningman.com. They may be able to point you towards folks in your area and tie you into the community there.
