Peterson Prairie Group Camp

Doesn't get used a lot. Busy, I hear, during the Fall huckleberry season but maybe still available. Quiet after 10pm but the group site is located where you could strum guitars and tell dirty jokes without bothering the rest of the campground. Room for 30+ with two m/f restrooms and a half dozen firepits, tent spaces, vehicle space for days, giant built-in bbq action.

I'm checkin' my calendar. Hmmmmm.....stirred some ideas. Can hike to ice caves, other stuff. Can pop up to Mt. Adams in 30 minutes for a climb.

The MOBILE GROOVE BOMB is now taking reservations for a round trip adventure from Portland to the Soak* 2009. There will be two runs out on Friday, and two returns on Sunday.

Choose your preferred times :
Friday 2:00pm departure
Friday 7:00pm departure
Sunday 11:00am departure
Sunday 1:00pm departure

There is ~plenty~ of room for a pile of gear, but please try to put your mission supplies into plastic bins if possible. The MGB needs at least 7 people and max of 15 per run. Reservations are first come, first serve; $20.

So I'm thinking of bringing a theme camp to the burn this year from the east coast---my dance troupe. We're actually making some money out here and kicking ass and will most likely have a performance themecamp. I miss those of you I know from the temple and monkeypuzzle. If ya'll are gonna try to be a themecamp again this year, any chance you'd like to have a bunch of hot ladies and your gingerbeav as neighbors? I can't remember when placement applications are due. maybe i'm way too early on this?

The Forum has a listing for the Calendar and Friendly Fire. I will continue to add items as I get through the notes.

I will also be posting the Bus Projects with interested parties by this weekend. Just working my way through all the great info we gathered.

Andy and I talked about having another community meeting around the end of February to follow up, so look for that date as well.

The site now requires login to view, since we will be discussing and planning more details, so if you are interested in participating with the MGB this year please sign up. The Ning site will also be used as our mailing list for the future.

Tonight thurs Nov 20th @ The crown room we will be coming together to celebrate the life of our friend sohkak.
I will be at the crown room between 4pm and 5pm to prepared some special dishes for the sacred space portion of the night
which is from 7pm-10pm............from 10 on will there will be djs to follow
i'm asking for people to bring food donations so that we can all eat a very special meal!
so if you can bring any items from the list below it would be much appreciated by all!
Sohkaks parents will be there and i know they would appreciate a table of edible intention made by us for them!

So between 4pm-5pm please bring donations of food!
stay and help me prepare this potluck style dinner for all attending!
or you can drop by and donate food items. if you cant make it.
There will also be clean up
Any and all help is needed!
HERE'S SOME IDEAS
salad mix and veggies for a big beautifull salad
different cheeses goat/brie/cheddar/buffalo mozz/pepper jack and crackers for a cheese cracker plate!
artichokes/roasted peppers /olives/pickles/fresh herbs/ and any other antipasto items
FRUIT pineapples/tangerines/figs/plums/honeydew melon/watermelon/raspberrys/bluberrys/bannanas/pears for fruit platter.
BREAD bring a loaf of a nice artisan bread!
if you can't bring any of these items to make platters and you want to make a special dish please bring it!

FROM 7pm-10pm there will be an open mike style SACRED SPACE time for you to share any thoughts.poems.stories.words.about your connection to our beautifull brother sohkak.This will be a quiet and respectfull meditation to send prayers to his spirit!

There will be a slide show at some point during 7-10pm showing pictures of sohkak living life to the full!
We are also creating a shrine so if there's a sacred object you would like to add.....
If you know anyone who knew soh and needs this info please forward this to them!
And know that ANY TYPE of donation that you feel might help....is much appreciated by his family.

From 10pm on there will be music to follow! And if you knew our friend he was always tearing up dance floors!
I think he would want us to be dancing and celebrating what he created in the community! and what ever he created or inspired in you!..............he'll be right there with us all...expressing through movement as one......one community!

We were going to do this as a surprise except... we were all too tired. And there was a chance he would have headed out of town!

Current plans involve showing up at the Love Show and a variety of other things, transporting around on a giant bus (does anyone know where we could find one?) and imbibing alcohol.

it's a Groove Bomb garage Sale!

I want to host a garage sale sometime when the weather's nice in say April or May or June at my space at 31st and Alberta.

This could be a community garage sale where you pledge a percentage of what you make for the bus, or it could be a total giveaway, 100% of sales toward the bus. In my experience the first option creates a fuller sale, but please begin to think of what you can sell and begin to set it aside. My location is great: had a couple of sales there and already have the signs and everything. The foot traffic is good and it's easy to get to. Anyone who's interested in helping is welcome. I don't have a date but this is something I want to do.

Where some today might say today that, "Jeez, times are tight. Y'know, the party's really over now". We're saying, "Ha! The party's just begun!". We don't celebrate the hard times of this difficult era in our history, we celebrate monumental social acheivement. As then, in the face of much adversity, we now enter a time of great momentum in the realm of opportunity for human connection. For us, this moment in time represents a critical portal that simultaneously peers into both the communal spirit of the past and the hopes of a bright future that its collecive historical memory suggests.

so i have had a bunch of folks wondering if they can help w/ the bus for Howl, yes, please and thank you!
the bus is going to get down to the venue at 3pm on fri, street closure is at 4. I am going to need hands helping
setup the rain structure and livening (deadening) the space, Lyla has been getting things ready for blinging out the space.
i'll also need help at 3or4am tearing down, we are not building stages!i also have tickets for people that can help.

The goal for this site is to provide a more stable site than Tribe, allow for Project Path site to be shut down (pain in the pattoy to manage and not very pretty) but allow for discussions to continue, and provide a trusted source for events and details regarding the MGB.

I just opened up membership, so anyone can view the main page, but you still need a Ning account to post discussions and make comments. We have the ability to post discussion threads, link Flickr accounts, post YouTube video, and post blogs. I also added a Links page with links to the MGB site on Tribe and MySpace.

I plan to send out invites to all the emails from the Project path site in the next couple days...

We will be posting events the MGB will be attending, MGB projects, outings and finance information. We all can start and contribute to discussions similar to what we were doing in project path.

Again, Project Path will be shut down November 15th.

Using Tribe and MySpace page and other MGB sites are awesome for cross pollination and getting the word out to wider audiences. But I suggest that y'all come here first to get the real skinny - then help us get the info distributed to the other sites... that would rock. If we slack on getting the word out in a timely manner here - then you have every right to publicly whip me with wet noodle about the slack...

Wanna go? One of our favorite thesps is playing George Burns in "Gracie for President"! I can't promise pickles but if we can get enough people together, we can get a reduced ticket rate and all ride out on the Bomb! Sweet..........

We need a minimum of 10 people to secure the $10 ticket price (instead of $12) but we'll need a larger group to share the cost of the bus ($200).

Feel free to pass this along to anyone who is interested but I would really like to know by this Friday, September 26 so I can reserve some seats.

Richard Cully (from march 4th) called me the other day on his way to the playa- he had to leave his scooter behind. i told him i'd take it if i could, put it in my truck and now need to take it off, so i can load up my stuff. if anybody has space and wants to do richard a favor, feel free to bring it it's big and bulky and takes three people to pick it up...he said he can pay $20-30 if needed.

He's one of the people working on the center camp art sculpture- so if you have room you'd be helping him out immensely.

it's parked in my driveway- 3844 SE Yamhill.

i'll have the key at the Boutique- if you choose to take it you can drop it off there or if you're camping with richard you know where to find him- he's with groovebomb.

I'm planning on heading out the morning of the 20th after a pleasant breakfast and coffee to arrive playaside at midnightish on the 21st. Is anyone with an early arrival pass looking for a ride? I have my and Tineke's stuff, but there should be plenty of room for you and your bike, costumery, food and etc. Tineke, who is down yonder already working on the temple, will be riding back with me on the 2nd of September, so this is only a one way trip.

Hello to The Bomb Squad!

It is now July 31 and we are at crunch time. We have been placed by BM at 3:30 and Esplanade…the Bus has three or four more work parties (this Sunday the 3rd!)...and it’s time to LOCK THIS SHIT DOWN! Yay! Let’s lock our shit!

CHALLENGE:
While being placed where we wanted, we have not been given the amount of space we asked for originally. We are now being given a 150×150 plot. While this is roughly what we had in 2005, we have around 60 folks…so it will be cozier than we thought. There is also much talk of large personal domes, shade structures, carports, RV’s, etc, that may make our Camp Tetris challenging.

***Please respond to this thread immediately and let us all know what you are bringing: how many cars…what type and size of structures.

I’ll get the ball rolling:
E. Carl Tietze (Lazer Moose): bringing 1 van and attaching a shade structure to it…taking up about 12×12 feet.

It's happening, folks.

What began several months ago as a wild dare to turn the Groove Bomb into a double-decker sonic assault machine of pure love and funk is becoming a reality. Back in March (or April...February??) we had a meeting at the Watershed to lay it all out...folks signed their names on the dotted lines and enthusiasm was high.

Recently there have been bumps in the road. Well, you know what they say about eggs and the creation of omelettes!

I'm here to let each and everyone of you know that a handful of us Bomb Squadders just had a GREAT meeting wherein the RESET BUTTON was pressed. It is true that there have been hurt feelings...mis-communication, and just plain drama. As a veteran of WooNami brand Burning Man, this was unfortunate...but not surprising. Let's face the facts:

--Everyone is broke
--The weather FINALLY got nice
--We have lots of new faces and new folks organizing the madness...yet many of us have not bonded on the Playa (or even BEEN to the playa)...so our Philosophy wasn't clear.
--Andy, the mastermind behind the nutz n' boltz of this thing is pooped...and he needs to work on his business, ForgeWorks.

These issues, along with games of 'telephone' have caused some unsavory moments and hurt feelings.

Well....NO MORE! It's all good. I have good news, and I have great news. But first, let's clear some things up:

Who are the Good Guys? US! YOU! Read more below to find out your part in all of this awesomeness.

Who are the Bad Guys? Nobody. Some folks have been unfairly targeted of late for being domineering or pushy. The reality, however, is that when balls get dropped, SOMEONE has to pick them up...and with stress comes short tempers and less-than-perfect delivery. Bryndl and Andy in particular are under enormous stress for this project, so we are going to pick up the slack and not lean on them as much, mmkay?

The Groove Bomb is an ALL-INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY PROJECT...if you want to help, you will not be turned down. We thank you for your help. We have a vision...and one day people will sing songs about it. And you will be able to tell your children that you were there.

We are Re-energized and ready to finish this bitch and completely destroy The Burning Man.

The stages are built, the fabric has been purchased for the cover, the seat cushions are done, and we are only 4 or 5 work days away from being PLAYA-READY! YAY!

first--thank you to melissa and lilli and all the stylists and photographers and marklar for coordinating birthday procurement. thank you to everyone that i don't mention by name and forgive me for being more than a little clueless.

second--if the calendar goes to print on time (wednesday the 25th?) when can we expect a finished product?

third--has any thought been given to how calendar sales are to be promoted?

fourth--would people be opposed to selling an autographed calendar for a slightly higher price? i would love to have said items at the mgb benefit at the crown room on july 10. (in addition to the rest of the mgb schwag! i still need a shot glass or 5! i'll man a schwag table for a while even but will need a little help as i'm also organizing this event....)

i understand that everyone is busy with their own mgb tasks so if there are no answers to these questions, that is totally cool. i just wanted to throw them out there in the event that there were.

Work Parties, Participation, and the continuation of the Bus Project

Some of you may not have remembered that there was a work party today. We're busy people and the sun is out...these things happen. The trouble is, that you may have also forgotten to come to the work day on May 17, April 27, April 12, etc. And the lack of attendance (or people who show up and can only work for 15 minutes and then leave) has forced us to push our, albeit ambitious, June 21 completion date to August 1. Sorry, its seems that summer vacation has been postponed until October.

There are 61 people on this project path. There are another 40+ who think that they are camping with the bus project. Listening to Andy's frustration, Bryndl's exhaustion, and the aches and complaints of my own sore body, I wonder where these people are. And why people want to associate themselves with the bus but don't want to help make her happen?

Where are the people who have said, by associating themselves with this project and its Burning Man camp/parking space, who want to do the work to make the bus happen? Where are the fundraisers and camp dues and donations that will help cover the costs to make the bus happen? Where will the staff for the on-playa excursions come from? Who will be there to load the bus up and who will be there to clean up the mess? Because at this point, its the same dozen people reliably showing up for work days, for setup and tear down of the few fundraisers we've managed to eke together between work parties, who take days off work to weld and cut and drill and clean and BE THERE for this project. And its wearing on them and its still not enough.

We imagined this thing back in March and presented it to you all at the Watershed and asked for your help. And you said you would give it. Please do that or let us know that you cannot. I understand more than most how enthusiasm can make one overcommit, but we leave for the playa in under 10 weeks and its time to take stock and make a commitment - to the project and to your friends who have been working very hard to see it completed.

So, like I said, I understand that some of you may not have remembered that there was a work party today. We're busy people and the sun is out...these things happen... fortunately, I'm reminding you about the one tomorrow right now.

Is the Groove Bomb going to the Playa?

I'm trying to figure out how to talk about this without it becoming a tyraid...... I know some of you have showed up for work parties and we haven't had enough to keep you busy all the time, but we need extra bodies there for when we complete a task to move on... sometimes it bottle necks and you might not feel useful, but even though it may not always seem like it I need you there in order to move forward. We have potentialy 100 people camping with us and we need to get the word out to *everyone* that we need help.... right now I feel like were not going to get this completed and I want to back out if it stays the way it has been, so I need to know who's with me and who really wants this.

We have done alot of work raising $$ and we have paid for materials but there are not enough hands to process it.

There is already a small group dedicated to showing up early to the Playa and they will be building most of it before the bulk of our camp is even allowed into burning man. The thing is they are also the people who have done the bulk of the building so far. There will be little to do besides staffing the bus on playa and you need to be working now to make this happen. Otherwise, I would like to be doing my own projects towards burning man, my laundry & focusing on how the hell to pay for my own burn.... or, just enjoying a sunny saturday afternoon.... so if you don't want it just tell me.

If you know me, you know I am prepared to put everything into this.

I can see how epic this project is going to be if you make it happen... we can't do it alone anymore.

I'm tired and I really need to know if there is enough peeps to make this roll or I need to do other things.

I'm going to get some sleep, snuggle with my sweetie and hope to see some fresh enthusiasm tomorrow.

Who is going to see Larry this weekend in Sea?

Larry Stiener is performing in Seattle with his new Iggy Pop cover band. He has been working on this project for months and is super excited to have some of his PDX peeps come up and support him. He comes down for a whole ton of our shit and I think it would be great to show him a little love right back.

The Plan:
Leave from the shop at between 3:30 and 4pm this friday.... go up to the show on the bus if there are enough people, carpool if not.... tix are $9 and can be found at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/30667 .

Then we have all been invited to crash his super awesome rockstar hideout of a home in Buckley <aprox 1 hour outside sea>... party if'n we fancy it then he's cooking us pina colada french toast!

His house is on a beautiful piece of country land with a creek running around the back... plenty of room to streach out and enjoy some good company.... home by early eve on Sat.

The thing is I need a head count by early tomorrow to plan for the bus or not.... so let me know if your considering it or making plans for other rides.

It has recently become obvious that I was unable to accurately input the hand written list of emails from our original Groove Bomb building meeting. So, if you are not receiving updates about work parties events and such and you would like to be active in this project.... I have not left you out on purpose. Ride the MGB to Red Dress Party this weekend

We will be meeting at Sexy Lexi'ss house between 7pm and 8pm on Saturday. The house is off of NE 78th & Glisan and cost is $10/person. The Mobile Groove Bomb will leave there @ 8:15pm sharp and will remain parked outside the party as a chill space throughout the night. We will return to Lexi's at the end of the party so you can pick up your vehicles and/or get a taxi -- please arrange for a sober way home.

yO! so, i got to kick it on the groove bomb for a bit at the Diversion party - i was wondering if anyone could help me identify one of the tunes we were listening to - i need so much more of it in my life -

it was like - uhhhm, a really crazy drunken pirate circus groove - all about the color Purple - i really wish i could remember more, but dancing on that thing in the state of mind i was in really jumbled the old neurons.

any help would be appreciated and Thanks for being so amazing :)

HE groove bomb enthusiasts, I am Dutchy that hasn't really had time to explore the Portland party scene. But I did make it to the HOWL party at Rotture and am excited to dance more!! Groovebomb dj's were very funky & groovy and I heard some other nice breakbeats, trance, techno type tunes which I love and now that I am hooked again....... Jonz'en for more if you know what I mean! Anyway, Kudos to the crew and all of you on the (or any) dancefloor, respect! The question I have is if anybody can give me some tips for fun upcoming events/ parties/ clubs/ performances/ dj battles or anything along those groove lines, that would awesome!! thanks, peace Paul

:Our drivers for making this trip possible and the relaxing pleasure that it was, lounging comfortably on a road-trip has never been as lovely.. and the hot cookies from the oven...? yes please!

ooops..... I forgot to post thiin the most obvious spot... it' s a bit late notice but if your interested......

Hey all .......it a Groove bomb family vacation and the whole family is invited! <well at least as many as we can squeeze on a tri-met bus>

When: Leave Friday 28th @ noon .... return home Sunday 30th early afternoon.

What: The Groove Bomb will be heading to Bend for two days of revelry, mischievous, pub crawling, block party fire fun!

Friday night the Bomb will shuttle a stilters pub crawl around Bend....... groundlings are needed wanted and loved.......

as if that wasn't reason enough, then......

Saturday night our friends Mike and Tam are closing off their street for a fire drenched block party with music fire play and super sweet peeps!

Accommodations: We will be staying with Mike and Tam and you can easily put up a tent in their yard or crash on their floor or sleep on the bus.... it's a cozy welcoming place with plenty of options.

Cost: Donations to the Bomb if you got 'em and whatever food and libations you will require along the way..... might be fun to get some group breakfast goodies< bacon, mimosas?> to cook in the bus kitchen.

Feel free to bring a friend or lover <not a good space for the kiddies>

The Moblie Groove Bomb needs a face lift, and we need you to help.

This weekend...All Weekend
We're preping her for the new PAINT JOB. And we need all the hands we can get. You don't think you have the skills???... That's where you're wrong. It's easy work, she's just a big bus, making the job too big for just us.

We have The Watershed Wearhouse for a limited time so we're on deadline here. We'll provide all the equipment, instructions and possibly pizza and beer.
Give us four hours of your time and we'll give you a mobile groove bomb t-shirt designed by our own paint guru, Dale.
Come in grubbies... ones that can get paint on them.
We'll be there from 9am til atleast 9pm saturday June 9th and Sunday June 10th.

Fantastic show! It's amazing how far we've come in the short time we've been doing things together. The Bus was deserving of the effort. Thanks to all the peeps that worked so hard to make things come together. I am proud to know you all and hope that I can someday recall fondly the night of the FIRST Friendly Fire... What a night!

Props to everyone that came out to show their colors. I am more encouraged than ever about future possibilities. It was a long and tiring night, but at no point was I not happy to see all of my friends in one place settiing shit on fire.

they say so much and mirror our reality... merge, yield, caution, detour, winding road, dangerous curve, shoulder work ahead, dead end... i'll always think of someone in my life when i see a warning sign after my first trip on an art car named the mobile groove bomb.

pretty much, life is only about love and if life is about love then the way we see ourselves and feel is through the reflection of others and the first image, the first warning sign you see entering the bus says allot for love and community... Welcome Aboard - Step Carefully
this art car, the bus, for me has become a metaphor and a symbol for rolling with the people... i never realized how much road signs say about relationships and being in a community until i rode the bus... this is my ode to that ride and the things i am learning about this thing we call the community. such a subtlety beautiful and indefinably real thing...
