A friend shared these w me today

PLANETARY ASPECTS TO LUNAR NODES:

CONJUNCTIONS TO S. NODE:
Indicates karmic lessons which may take more than one lifetime to learn, or that certain tests will become lessons which they need to relearn. People who have attained a great deal of knowledge, wisdom or talent are therefore given opportunities to bring their accomplishments to a flowering conclusion.

CONJUNCTIONS TO N. NODE:
A conjunction to the N. Node indicate a need to leave the past behind in order to acquire a new set of lessons or conditions in this current lifetime. Attempts to fall back on the factors surrounding the S. Node also meet with some resistance forcing the individual to move into a completely fresh and challenging set of circumstances or experiences.

CONJUNCTIONS TO BOTH THE N. & S. NODE:
Indicate powerful conflicts need to be resolved within the current lifetime and cannot be delayed or shrugged off. By taking account of the most beneficial planet exerting its influence on the nodal point the individual may be able to develop enough strength of purpose or conviction to in order to overcome the negative energy of the other planet. If that planet is afflicted in some way then they may need to "attune" themselves to the more subtle, positive and refined aspects of that planet in order to move on in life.

SQUARES TO N. & S. NODES:
Squares to either the N. or S. Nodes inevitably produce distractions to their central purpose or theme in life. Where in past lives the person has allowed themselves to deviate or become dispersed from their goals, the need and challenge to focus themselves is now an even greater directive. This may manifest in many different ways depending on the planets involved, for example as agonising frustrations which seem to block them from their purpose (Uranus), lack of support or co-operation from others (Pluto) etc.

NORTH NODE SQUARE ASCENDANT:
Problems that need to be recognised and overcome may be caused through an anti-social outlook and disharmonious conduct within your social environment.

NORTH NODE SQUARE MIDHEAVEN:
Problems that need to be recognised and overcome may be caused by a disruptive and overbearing attitude that limits social and professional success. There may be a tendency to place your own personal interests and objectives above those of the community or the group to which you belongs.

TRINES TO S. NODE:
A Planetary Trine to the South Node will undoubtedly bring opportunities to relive and improve upon past circumstances. However, there is also the danger that things arrive too easily or that these opportunities are missed particularly if the Node is in a mutable house or water sign. In some instances the individual must learn or cultivate some self-respect otherwise there may be a tendency to opt out of life.

TRINES & SEXTILES TO N. NODE:
Planetary trines to the North Node indicate a richly rewarding life experience thereby allowing the soul to fully participate in its destiny and future karmic lessons. Generally speaking they will even be guided and assisted by others with whom in the past they have had some karmic link.

NORTH NODE TRINE ASCENDANT:
A North Node-Ascendant contact is a fortunate influence and suggests general personal well-being. It gives you the ability to get along well with others in social, domestic and romantic relationships.

NORTH NODE TRINE MIDHEAVEN:
North Node in aspect to the Midheaven brings the desire to associate with those who share the same ideas and social aspirations as yourself. Relationships are all-important and you are likely to be popular and successful - you tend to bring the personal touch into all your business and social affairs.

NORTH NODE SEXTILE ASCENDANT:
A North Node-Ascendant contact is a fortunate influence and suggests general personal well-being. It gives you the ability to get along well with others in social, domestic and romantic relationships.

NORTH NODE SEXTILE MIDHEAVEN:
North Node in aspect to the Midheaven brings the desire to associate with those who share the same ideas and social aspirations as yourself. Relationships are all-important and you are likely to be popular and successful - you tend to bring the personal touch into all your business and social affairs.

MUTUAL RECEPTION:
Whenever the ruling planet of either sign in which the Nodes are located is in the opposite spot then the matter of mutual reception must be considered within the interpretation. For example Venus (Ruler of Taurus/2nd house) conjunct the South Node in Scorpio in the 8th house.
In mutual reception circumstances relating to the past are so inextricably linked that it will be necessary for the individual to come to terms with the present via the past. Glimpses of their own past karma may be made available so that they may draw upon the past life in order to fulfil elements of the future.
CONJUNCTIONS TO THE NORTH NODE:

NORTH NODE CONJ/ASC >< OPP/DESC: (SQ/IC/MC)

This aspect allows individuals to develop their personalities according to prevailing social trends, popularity is likely and likewise some overt superficiality due to their initiatives or actions being dependent on the lowest common denominator or widespread beliefs/opinions. They are likely to be tall/lanky, cheerful and optimistic.
(NORTH NODE CONJUNCT ASCENDANT:)
This indicates that you have a social conscience and thereby get along well with others. A career in public relations would suit your temperament.

NORTH NODE CONJ/IC >< OPP/MC: (SQ/IC/MC)

This aspect allows individuals to develop their domestic life/family and home with ease - they may be appreciated by their family members who will in return most likely care for them in later years. There may be a strong attachment to their country of origin or home. Adversely unconscious clinging to a sense of identity based on family values or negative early childhood influences may create a strong "mother complex" in them.

NORTH NODE CONJ/DESC >< OPP/ASC: (SQ/IC/MC)

This aspect allows individuals to develop their marriage or business partnerships to great advantage while they may be indifferent to popular views or prevailing social trends. Adversely they may be dependent on the opinions of those within their immediate community or rely on others for social approval. An overt tendency to sit on the fence, to be indecisive and seek harmony at any price is also likely if this aspect is afflicted.
(NORTH NODE OPPOSITION ASCENDANT:)
Problems that need to be recognised and overcome may be caused through an anti-social outlook and disharmonious conduct within your social environment.

NORTH NODE CONJ/MC >< OPP/IC: (SQ/IC/MC)

This aspect allows individuals to develop their professional career and personal ambitions in line with mass political ideology or public appeal. In this respect they may find that people in authority or influence will be particularly useful or sympathetic to their personal achievements. Any negative aspects here may cause them to accept more responsibility than they can deal with or use those above and below them for their own ends.
NORTH NODE CONJUNCT MIDHEAVEN:
There is a desire to associate with those who share similar social aspirations to yourself, in order to share ideas and enthusiasm for joint ventures.

SOUTH NODE CONJ/ASC >< OPP/DESC: (SQ/IC/MC)

This aspect may create difficulties in the persons' lack of conformity to general social trends and the needs of others, primarily because they are too self-centred or individualistic. They may have difficulty asserting their own individuality through a positive or optimistic attitude to life.
SOUTH NODE CONJ/IC >< OPP/MC: (SQ/IC/MC)
This aspect may create difficulties in the persons' duties, or responsibilities towards home or family members. They may be particularly averse to domestic routine and need to develop a more caring attitude to other family members. Older family members may become a burden to them later in life and thwart their career, aims or ambitions.
NORTH NODE OPPOSITION MIDHEAVEN:
Problems that need to be recognised and overcome may be caused by a disruptive and overbearing attitude that limits social and professional success. There may be a tendency to place your own personal interests and objectives above those of the community or the group to which you belong.

SOUTH NODE CONJ/DESC >< OPP/ASC: (SQ/IC/MC)
This aspect may create difficulties in the persons' ability to cultivate good relationships with others especially marriage partners or business associates. They may lack tact and diplomacy, and may be impulsive, careless and rely too much on their own initiative and independence.

SOUTH NODE CONJ/MC >< OPP/IC: (SQ/IC/MC)
This aspect may create difficulties in the persons' ability to fully realise their career objectives, they may lack drive or persistence, or be thwarted by those in authority or influence, while poor timing (especially during Saturn transits) could delay or impair their judgement. Ingrained behaviour and personal habits may deny them public acclaim or recognition.

OTHER ASPECTS TO THE NORTH & SOUTH NODES:

ASPECTS TO THE PAR OF FORTUNE:
NORTH NODE OPPOSITION FORTUNA:
Problems may be experienced through an inability to get along with those within your immediate social and domestic environment.

NORTH NODE SEXTILE FORTUNA:
This influence suggests that you get great pleasure from associating with those who share the same ideas and social aspirations as yourself. Relationships are all-important and you are likely to be socially popular and successful.

NORTH NODE CONJUNCT PAR OF FORTUNA:
You attract friends with whom previous lifetime karmic bonds exist, and find great happiness in their company.

NORTH NODE TRINE FORTUNA:
This influence suggests that you get great pleasure from associating with those who share the same ideas and social aspirations as yourself. Relationships are all-important and you are likely to be socially popular and successful.

NORTH NODE SQUARE FORTUNA:
Problems may be experienced through an inability to get along with those within your immediate social and domestic environment.

  • Thank you, this was helpful. What would you say about North node conjunct Midheaven, Lilith and Pholus in Taurus (in 9th house), and South node conjunct Pluto (and IC) in Scorpio? The ruler of Taurus is in 1st house conjunct Ascendant and Mars, trine North node, Midheaven etc.
    • Unsu...

Experiences in your past and past lives push you towards change and transformation in this life. A lot of learning about how to let go and embrace change without controlling stuations and events, a well of power to be used to develop/work on a career which will give you extreme satisfaction and will help you with your spiritual growth and help you know yourself inside out..something to do with travelling or philosophies from other countries maybe? And expressing that in a tangible way?
I'm sure there's a lot more to it, I'm just intuitevely saying what I perceive it means.
I don't know much about Pholus...
      • Unsu...

Pholus attends to needs of the inner child or spirit from a spiritual sense, the intents behind the acts (and thought is an act), ceremony as it applies to outlooks as those that are religious or long standing traditional/cultural. In short, how and/or where it is we find our well-being in perhaps the most easily attainable sense...not that this means that doing such will actually BE easy, but perhaps best or most likely acceptable to us in some form where Pholus is found instead of where else we may look to. As always though, these things CAN be found elsewhere should we make that un/consious choice; though it'll likely be a bit bumpier a ride for the doing so.

I've been using the Nodes of the Moon to identify "Karmic" ties for many years. You find the birthdays of the dates conjuncting and square your nodes and list like this: for example my nodes are N = 16 degrees Sagittarius and S = 16 degrees Gemini. The dates are:

    December 7-10 June 5-8
    March 5-8 September 7-10

Anyone born on one of those dates has their Sun conjunct or square your nodes and would be considered a Karmic tie. Depending on your nodal aspects to other planets, the relationship can be difficult or rewarding; perhaps both. I've been a professional astrologer for over 30 years and I'm still not convinced that we're trying to leave behind the South Node conditions and working towards whatever the North Node presents. In truth, I don't believe that at all.

The way I look at the Nodes of the Moon are exquisitely explained by Maritha Pottenger.
      I wish I had written that! ;o)

Thanks for the link Sue, that's a helpful explanation.
        • I agree with most of what Maritha said, but with a bit of modification of this paragraph:

"Some authors interpret the Nodes as "where we've been" and "where we should be going." This can be misleading. The Nodes are primarily an opposition! The goal of any opposition is synthesis -- to turn the enemies into allies, to combine the best of both into a golden mean. Talking about one Node as your "future" and the other as your "past" encourages people to fall into polarization and projection -- exactly the problems to which the Nodes are susceptible! Both Nodes relate to past lives and polarities we are striving to balance. Both Nodes relate to the future which can be bright when we achieve a pleasing synthesis!"

The South Nodes show what we bring into this life that we do not need to develop.
The North Nodes show what we bring into this life undeveloped, that we need to work on.
Dweling on the South Node is like resting on your laurels....taking the line of least resistance. But there is no reason on earth why we can't draw upon the strengths of the South Node in this life.
Focusing on the North Node is working to grow and integrate qualities into our life that we have not yet integrated. Sometimes, the strengths we bring with us at the South Node are the very ones we need in order to forge ahead at the North Node.

So it is definitely not a question of choosing the North Node and ignoring the South. Rather, it is a question of integrating both sides of the nodes.....using the gifts you brought with you without dwelling upon them (South Node) in order to integrate new things into your world and life (North Node).

People you meet at the North Node are usually those that can teach you what needs to be integrated.
People you meet at the South Node are usually those that can teach you more about yourself, and how to use what you already have.

Wow, Zane, I wish I had your Gemini way with words! With my South Node in Gemini, I always learn so much from you. The thing is, I've learned the most valuable things from Gemini; my most AHA experiences! My favorite Astrologer of all times was Robert Myers who had Gemini rising around the same degree as your Mercury. I don't seem to be able to "say" what I know with your finesse. Maybe it's Saturn in my 3rd?
Anyway, I appreciate you and what you have to say! Thanks.
            • Sue,
              Thank you.
I've got that Mercury conjunct Mars in Gemini in the 3rd, trine Neptune, sextile Pluto....always felt that was the best part of my chart.

When I first got into astrology, I was self taught. Then, I met a more learned astrologer, who helped me to develop my own abilities. Her sign? Virgo, on my North Node. We argued a lot on some points after awhile, as I developed, but then that's to be expected between a Gemini and a Virgo, no? Still, I owe her a lot for helping to open my eyes.

But it is the Piscean people I've met that help me go places I've never been, go beyond my borders. Sometimes, there are clashes (with my chart being so mutable, Pisces is usually square or opposition something in my chart, no matter what the degree), but I do learn, and become a more whole person as a result.
  • Great post Isis, I think I have a mutual reception, My north node is in cancer in the 10th conjunct my MC, it's also trine pluto saturn and part of fortune conjunction in my 1st. My southnode in capricorn in the 4th conjunct neptune and IC, neptune is opposing my North node, so they are very busy in my chart.
  • I found this at www.astrologyweekly.com/

North Node square Sun This square causes the natives' attempts at individual expression to be out of phase with the current of larger events in their society. Sometimes they hold back when they should go forward, or vice versa.
Circumstances in their lives and in their society tend to block their self-expression and creative endeavors. They find themselves poorly adjusted in their social and romantic lives.

North Node square Moon This square tends to make the natives emotionally out of harmony with the trends of their society. Very often the flow of events creates petty problems and sometimes domestic problems. There is difficulty in gaining social recognition or fulfilling ambitions if women play a part in this. The natives are likely to incur their disfavor or dislike in some way.

North Node square Mercury This square creates a situation in which the prevailing attitudes of the society conflict with the natives' mental expression and communication. They cannot project their ideas as they would like, and therefore tend to be misunderstood. Often they meet with social disapproval because they speak out at the wrong time or place. They may be in disagreement with surrounding social patterns.

North Node square Venus The emotional qualities of the natives and of their social expressions (these are the persons who flirt in church and giggle at funerals) are not likely to conform to prevailing social mores and attitudes. Marriages and financial dealings especially can meet with social disapproval.

North Node square Mars This aspect indicates a condition in which the actions and impulses of the natives are likely to be at odds with current social standards. These people tend to express their aggressive tendencies at inappropriate times and places. They may appear to have bad luck, because they lack the ability to act in harmony with the events around them. Others then become irritated, and the natives themselves frustrated.

North Node square Jupiter The square produces a situation in which the natives' religious, educational, and social attitudes are not in harmony with the trends and policies of the culture in which they find themselves. They are likely to have difficulty adjusting to social institutions.

North Node square Saturn This square indicates a thwarting of the natives' ambition and progress by prevailing social forces. Their fearfulness and conservatism may pervent their being in the right place at the right time to take advantage of opportunities which the society affords them. They may be isolated by society or become recluses.

North Node square Uranus This square indicates a situation in which the natives' desire for freedom and their nonconformist tendencies conflict with social standards. They are likely to run roughshod over the mores of their culture and will incur the disapproval of the more traditional elements of society. Hence they are prone to misfortune.

North Node square Neptune This square indicates a situation in which the mystical tendencies of the natives conflict with the more prosaic, down-to-earth customs and social institutions of their culture. Society is likely to regard them as impractical dreamers or even as subversive influences who undermine traditional religious and social concepts. They are likely to feel alone in a crowd and misunderstood by their peers. Sometimes their preoccupation with visionary pursuits keeps them out of touch with the flow of events around them, so that they react ineptly and confusedly.

North Node square Pluto This square indicates a tendency to want to reform social and cultural philosophies and institutions. Thus, the natives will be at odds with the established order and will incur its disfavor. Depending on other factors in the horoscope, this can be either mild disapproval or a matter of life and death, in which the natives are regarded as dangerous revolutiojnaries by their society.
  • Hi Everyone!

Any help interpreting this would be welcome.

NN at 29 Scorpio in the second house with these aspects:

    - conjunct Saturn at 2 Sag
    - square Pluto at 0 Virgo
    - sextile Venus at 0 Libra
    - trine Uranus at 6 Leo

This of course gives the folowing for the SN at 29 Taurus in the 8th:

    - opposite Saturn
    - square Pluto
    - trine Venus
    - sextile Uranus

Did some work with the nodes, but have just been really noticing them!

Thanks in advance for any comments!

    Viki
    • I think that the neptune conjunction to my south node is interesting, since Im a pisces and neptune is my ruler, pisces is on the cusp of my 7th house, and so far all my relationships have had a very karmic past life feeling to them.
      • Ditto! The same for me. I find that H6 and H7 work together. Either romance will find one at work or vice versa, they're working. A client, co-worker or pro you hire becomes spouse material.
