Hallo

Since I started training this way I have a great new relationship with my horse. She learned to trust me and she has shown me a very friendly side of her, which I haven't seen before. Here is where I learned it, does anyone else here work with bridleless training?

Bridleless Training
By Palm Lynn

Bridleless Training is for the rider as well as for any breed of horse in any discipline. The important benefit of the rider's use of seat and leg aids is stressed, taking the emphasis off the hand aids which allows the rider to communicate more clearly with the horse. You become a more confident rider and improve rider balance problems caused by improper use of your hands. You'll learn to read your horse and understand where he carries his natural balance. This DVD provides excellent training techniques for older horses, for horses that have problems accepting a bit, and is excellent for horses that show signs of resistance as it provides a technique to get them to slow down and accept what they are doing. Using horses in different stages of training, Lynn demonstrates steps that must be followed and carefully evaluated before you advance. Ground training, numerous types of maneuvers, and many stages of training were involved in this unique bridleless training method. The final segment demonstrates the advanced horse, using Rugged Lark to show you the results of training through Love, Acceptance, Respect, and Kindness. This DVD can help you mark a new beginning in the relationship you have with your horse. However, always remember the many safety tips Lynn uses as an important part of all you do whether you are riding and or training.

DVD

When I am Old...

I shall wear diamonds
And a wide brimmed straw hat
With silver and leather on it
and I shall spend my social security
On white wine and carrots
And sit in the alley of my barn
And listen to my horses breathe.

I will sneak out
in the middle of a summer's night
And ride the chestnut mare
Across the moonstruck meadow.
If my old bones will allow.

When people come to call I will smile and nod
As I walk them past the gardens to the barn
And show, instead, the beauty growing there
In stalls fresh-lined with straw.

I will shovel and sweat and
Wear hay in my hair as if it were a jewel.
And I will be an embarrassment to all
Who look down on me.
They've not yet found the peace in being free
To love a horse as a friend,
A friend who waits at midnight hour
With nuzzle and nicker and patient eyes
For the kind of woman I will be
When I am Old.

Morgan Characteristics

Is being affectionate a Morgan characteristic? From what I have been reading and experiencing it seems to be. Oscar is our first Morgan horse... I bought him for my husband Nathan b/c he is gated and we have found that gated horses are more comfortable for Nathan to ride with his back condition (a skydiving back injury from his Army days).
Oscar is incredibly affectionate! I have never met a horse this sincerely interested in humans - he seems to want to muck stalls with me, and when I give him baths he will take the hose and offer me a bath :oP He gives kisses, nuzzles, and stretches his front legs way out in front of him - as if to bow when he does not have your full attention. When my other horses are in the pasture and he sees me coming he will be the first to run and greet me. Oscar always lets out a big whinny when I leave. He is truly a loving horse. His eyes are VERY expressive!
In the past Oscar was mistreated which has given him serious self esteem issues - we are working with him on this. He works hard and aims to please but he suffers from anxiety. Quietex helps! ... If I'm cleaning the pasture and he so much as sees me pick up a branch he runs in fear that I will beat him which of course I would NEVER do to any horse. It is sad... We are gaining his trust slowly but still after all this time little things like that clearly remind him of his past. Do horses get PTSD? Maybe this is another topic?
Oscar seems to CARE about other horses and his human family with his whole heart.

Hi, I'm new to this tribe, thanks for the invite Ayshah, and I don't own a Morgan; however, I rode a Morgan horse more than a decade ago and he was wonderful. He was one of the horses that inspired me to get back into riding and to buy horses of my own. It's been a love affair with them ever since.

Can anyone tell me of your experiences with Morabs? Are they similar in personality to Morgans? Obviously every horse is an individual but I mean over all? Just curious :o)

Does anyone know how it is that trainers/the Amish/people in general choose a driving horse? Why is it that Standardbreds and Morgans are picked more often as driving horses then say Quarter horses? I can understand why heavier horses like Clydesdale's and Belgians are used for driving but of the lighter breeds why these two the most?

Just curious :o)

My QH Mister Q keeps finding branches in the pasture and handing them to me LOL - what do you think he is trying to say? Keep my pasture clean? There have been a lot of thunderstorms in PA lately so that is why there are all these branches falling down! Have any of you seen a horse do something like this before? Just curious :o)
