Narnia

We watched the movie last night...Eddie Izzard as the voice of a sword swinging mouse is fabulous. Cybele really enjoyed it, the acting is good, the special effects are quite good. Those are the only good comments I have.

I fucking hated it. I had never read the books, I knew that CS Lewis was christian....and many of his books had elements of his christianity. I saw some of those elements brought to life in Lion Witch and the Wardrobe...but, I was fine with it. Prince Caspian is on a whole other level, at times I felt it was just bashing me in the head with "holier than though, you must have faith or you are doomed" type of bullshit. There were several times I felt inspired to walk out. I knew that doing so could upset my wife who was enjoying the movie so I stayed seated.

Her point of view is different than mine, she read them and loved them as a child, was never around or influenced by any kind of a church. She was able to watch it, and enjoy it. I felt like I was in a southern baptist brain washing bible study all over again.

disgusting movie

I'm like Cybele. I grew up with these books. My dad used to read them to us and we loved it. It wasn't until I was older that I noticed the christian references but I have always been more into the fantasy of a different world, etc that I just have never paid attention to it. To me they were just all great stories.

even with it being just a story...remove the christ allegories, I still have a problem. It's a story about people failing without getting help from an ethereal being.

as if to teach, you can't do it on your own.

It's like Azlan enjoyed walking around in the backround, not doing anything to help until someone came out and asked. All in all that lion is kind of an asshole.

one of the lines in the movie....the little girl finally finds Azlan and asks, "Would all the people have died if I had found you sooner"
his response "We can never know, because you did not"
or something like that. What a heavy trip to put on a child...at that point in the movie...all I could think is...."what a DICK!"

It does make me sad that he could not enjoy it but I also respect that, I mean he had a different background in religion than I did. Which is to say I had no upbring at all. So I don't see the alegories he sees. I do see some of it but I have seen many of those themes used to some degree by writers who are not CS Lewis.

I hear ya. I had way to much of an upbringing in religion but for whatever reason I never associated those stories with any kind of christian dogma until I was much older. I think that's the only reason I can watch the movies and read the books now. If it hadn't been for that I'd probably be thinking just as Ryan does. I mean I think that way about many other things that have christian under tones and I hate it, so I understand for sure.

Well that gives me my answer then. I really have no desire to see this movie. I didn't anyway but this seals it. I think I'll go see Ironman again!

Or Indiana Jones! Good point Belle! But I must confess....Harrison Ford doesn't do it for me like RDJ. I just wanted to drool some more over RDJ. That said though, I really do want to see Indiana Jones.

Ryan....do you remember seeing the first one? We saw it at the drive-in....with the big green bowl of popcorn!!

I don't remember what car it was. I just looked it up. It was released in 1981 so it was the Toyota, which looked EXACTLY like the Honda. I never understood why our parents bought two brown turd mobiles.
