Nicki's February Paddling & Passing MTG

I haven't had as much time to practice as I would like to these days, so I'm a little 'bumpy' with my hooping...so sorry it's not smoother, but it was still fun regardless!! Hoop happiness & love to you all!

Nicki, you are really blowing me away!!! Your growth since last June is astounding. Your transistions from one trick to the next is becoming very fluid and seamless. You have become quite fearless in the hoop, tackling one difficult technique after another. I applaud your courage. I sensed your getting a good understanding of paddling, but felt that you were going a little soft on the hoop. Do you feel like you were holding back a bit?
Your spinning stalls are gorgeous and I loved, loved your big spins and passes at the 4:30 mark. My word for you this month is "dedicated".

On another note, due to family commitments and finances I will not be attending Shakori this April. While sad about this, I'm even sadder after seeing your last couple of vids. I want to spin with you so badly :(. Can't wait to see you in June.

i really like the end part when you just spun around with the hoop. overall i though that your dancing was nice and playful and open and had good musicality. I think you could have explored some passing around the legs but overall i thought is was very varied and intresting and you looked free and like you where having fun which is what it's all about!

i feel the same way as Colleen, that you are really being really courageous with your movements and musical choices. you had some gorgeous stalls at the beginning and the end, and i liked where you were stalling and bent your knees so the stall was at a lower level. your big fast spins at the end really accented the momentum of the music. i felt that you were into passing more than paddling this go round. oh, and you are really becoming lighter on your feet. good hoopin :)

Colleen, I'm so bummed you won't be at Shakori--- Vicky and I are still planning to go (although life could intervene for me, too). June will be here before we know it, though, and I have the feeling it's going to be like a fam reunion.

Now that we're on the road, finally finding a chance to respond more MTG! It feels good. Nicki, I have already told you how astonished I am by your growth (as everyone else seems to be!) and it continues here--I wholly agree with what Colleen & Jess observe about your hoop courage--you are really jumping into some hard stuff and just going for it.

What I really admire about your dance here is your speed transitioning from core to off-body and back again (several times! good god!), also the wide arcs you inscribe with horizontal rolling--really letting your whole body follow the hoop and be guided by it. As you bring the hoop off he core with that quick flair, your trees travel with your birds and bring in the dramatic angles of knee and elbow in a way that sometimes reminds me of a Balinese dancer--it brings a formal element to your dance that has equal parts of power and femininity.

The main thing I noticed that I hope I have some valuable feedback on is about continuous stalling/spinning--I know I have written you some about this, so forgive me if I repeat myself, but I saw that when you are trying to keep the stall going for two or more revolutions, that your feet tend to change places with every revolution. I find that I can find the energetic center of the continuous stall best if I use one foot as a primary anchor and move with the other foot. Of course, it's never perfect (what is?? : > ) but that guideline keeps my circle tight and opens the energetic portal through which that spinning energy seems to download in a pure wave which you can "catch" and "ride," much as I imagine you might surf a wave in the ocean. I'm betting that bringing this awareness to the feet will tighten up that column of energy and keep you in balance for more and more revolutions.

Also, can I just say, Hell yes, Jess! We will all be reunited before we know it--it's almost melted down to 2 months. Wish I was seeing you gorgeous ladies at Shakori next month--I promise we'll be there in the fal!!!

im sorry posting to this got away from me....life just speeds up all the time doesn't it?

This was really fun to watch. I can always tell you are giving it your all. I like how at times you were not only dancing with the hoop, but you seemed to be the lead and it just followed your skilled guidance like a good dancer itself. Good job changing elevations with various parts of your body, be it leaning over or lifting your knees. I tend to stay stick straight upright and I like your varying postures. Loved the continuous lifts at 1:50ish and the fast spin with lift at around 3:50. I think you should put some more paddles in those shoulder hoops and remember that the paddles assist the current and the hand/arm goes in the direction of the hoop. You may be doing this b/c sometimes the illusion is that we are just touching it w/o direction. I think Im getting confusing now. Anyway, I totally enjoyed it and can't wait for you to teach me one of those jump ins or whatever they are called. thanks!
