Dear butterflies

It's Alan, your "butterflies for world peace" believer. I wanted to share
this with you today as we are at a critical moment in time for our
organization's development. Please visit our new website at

Most may know by now that I have been working on this project since 1993,
working full-time and all for free. It was then that I first had a vision to
create the Butterfly Gardeners Association. I was immediately presented with a
conflict between my business as a landscaper and what spirit was calling me to
do. I made the choice to serve humanity and the planet and leave my business I
was to promote butterfly friendly gardens all over the country ... in schools
and public places. I felt this simple act would have both practical and
unimagined potentialities and possibilities, especially for children. I wanted this
to be a gift and I chose not to profit or even make a salary form my
endeavors. My wife was pretty concerned about my new life style. Saving the world with
butterflies was pretty crazy stuff for her to imagine. After four years she
told me it was the butterflies or her. So I went through a divorce that ended a
27 year relationship that I thought was an almost perfect marriage.

I'm still a bit stuck in the paradigm that butterflies are free. I have
attracted thousands of people to our cause and failed to stress the importance of
their contributions, whether financial or voluntary. I now see that that
failure created a scarcity. It thwarted our success, our ability to get a grant
writer, a business, a nonprofit manager, you name it.

On top of that, I haven't been able to get my car fixed for over three
months. It is literally falling apart as we speak. Would you believe that my
landlord is even talking about evicting me. I have no complaints, however. I recall
the quadruple bypass I had at the end of 2004 and started getting the feeling
that things have got to change. I am joyful about giving myself wholly to
something that I really believe in and I know that you are too.

Time is drawing close me to hand over the leadership of our organization to a
team that can bring it to the next level and I am setting a goal for that to
happen by my birthday on June 7th. I can no longer continue to afford to keep
on going with the present course.

I am humbly requesting your support over the next few months, or I may have
to take a sabbatical to focus on writing my book with Norie Huddle or get a job
so I can raise the money I need. If I am forced to do this I fear that the
momentum and potential of our collective dream may have to go back into the
chrysalis for a while.

In order to keep the office running smoothly and continue the work if I have
to leave, I came up with a simple plan to start the new year right. I began
asking everybody I know to invest at least one dollar to the cause.

It is my hope that we can raise from $2,000 - $10,000 to get us set up with
the Foundation Center, hire a grant writer and get an executive director to
take over the operation and help move our project to the next level in the very
near future. This minimal investment can plant the seed for our future growth
and prosperity and get our butterfly dreams to fly. I have already personally
invested over forty times that amount and feel really frustrated that we came
so close before I exhausted my personal savings and resources.

Therefore, I am asking EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU TO SEND ME AT LEAST ONE

helping me to send out our message of peace to many others. With nearly 14,000
