Being that this will be an orphan burn, what are your guys' views on having an effigy. I know we were going to have one last year, but due to high wind warnings at the time, we had to cancel. It was also hellaciously dry. If interested, is there someone that would be willing to be lead for it? By being lead, that would entail design and organization of your effigy crew. I personally would like to see a smaller version of The Man from BRC. Thoughts?

personally i think 15-20 feet is plenty lol.. generally it's pretty dry that time of year, so if we have a fire, we'll just need to keep it under semi-control. :)

BurningMan.com is the best place to find images

You guys are rock stars. I agree, 15-20 feet max. Also, burningman.com has tons of pics of the man. Let me know if you need help.

Wow. That's a shit ton bigger than "the man" we made for the first Shipwrecked. Cool!

wow that's f'ing huge LOL awesome!

One thing to consider, make sure it can fall!! Sturdy enough to withstand a day or so in the elements, but when we light it on fire you just want it to fall at some point :)

Indeed lots bigger than the first Shipwrecked. I'm impressed. I agree with the others, it does have to be able to SAFELY fall at some point. That will also be part of the responsibility of the crew helping burn it. Joe, you are awesome. Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Peace!

            I was thinking a 2"x2" skeleton.
Ill make a mockup of it this weekend.

awesome. Any ideas on possibly lighting this bad boy? I know it's a stretch to do lighting for it, but would be interesting to do. I know on the very first Shipwrecked we used glow ropes, but they weren't that bright. Just a thought.

                already thought about it. alot.

                It has to be removable.
One thought i had was to paint it to be UV reactive.
Another was to "paint" it with a projector.
we could also do tubes, and just take them down before the burn.

                Any other thoughts?

A suggestion........IF it doesn't cost too much....burn a smaller-scale model of the effigy. See how it falls apart. Then, you build the bigger one. This year's Temple of Community in the desert (not the BMORG approved Basura Sagrada, another one...) did a practice burn to see what happened. Modifications were incorporated into the bigger structure.

          And so it goes.

They are already working on a smaller model version to do just what you have suggested, I know the guys building it, they have a lot of experience in building various things(such as the awesome bar at the Hate Dome) but not with stuff like effigy building, so they want to do it right and make sure it comes down and comes down safely. Hopefully, the model will burn well and they will learn some good stuff before they build the one for the event, and from what I have seen and what I know of the guys behind the build, those going to Orphanrium will have a nice burn to enjoy.

The plan has been to burn a 6' model at Atomic Cowboy during one of the MWB meet and greets.
Hows about we do it at the one next week?

If, perchance I should HAPPEN to be in St. Louis next week.....the odds are against, I'll drop by anyway at the Atomic Cowboy. Lohr turned me on to the fish tacos there, and they are better by a long shot than ANY I can get here. Must be the way they do them just right. Anyhoo.........your plans at this point I shall leave to you.

I have been looking for the giant string of rope light, and am having trouble.

Where did the one we have used previously come from?
                  Could i rent it?
