So the fun part of having a baby dance all over yer bladder fer 9 months is getting to the name the wee one and do yer best to avoid really crappy nicknames at the same time... HA!
So far I'm pretty stumped... :D I have no idea what I'm having other than a human baby... so both genders are open...
So far I really love the name Edythe for a girl as I love Edy for a nickname and I eat a ton of their ice Cream... No no no!!! I'm not really naming a baby after Ice Cream, (Poor baby!!) the name belonged to one of my Great Grandmothers... one of brothers made the comment however that this poor baby would be aprox 60 years old when born... =p (what are brothers for other than to drive you crazy?!?! hahaha..!)
Edythe Rosalynn...? maybe?
I like the name Roan for a boy, but I'm not stuck to it... pretty stuck with notta at the moment at that!
Gavin's name just kinda came together one day and it just "was"... He could have been named 3 different things had he been a girl, but Gavin Luke was IT... :D I have no IT names thus far... =p He also has great (and very accurate!) nicknames such as The Gav-a-lanche, Arma-Gavin and The G-Force... all given by friends, family and his preschool... hahaha!! I just call him Gav-Man... :D
Sooooo would anyone wanna throw in some suggestions...?!?!?! I thought it might be fun... :D :D :D
And our last name is REALLY bland and boring... so let's spice it up yea?! hahahahaha....
**So far Gavin (who is 6 now) has offered the names of Peter Parker, Harry Potter and Knuckle Sandwhich.... we are totally serious around here... can ya tell?!?! :D

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 9:41 AMIt is really hard to pick a nice name that won't mess the poor kid up for life. My dad wanted to name by siblings Rocky and Penny Stone. My mom luckily intervened. I got a family name as my first name, don't think I will post it publically. It too has fallen out of style so everyone says "my great grandmother or great-great grandmother was named that". "Great I am an old lady", I used to think. I actually go by a shortened version of my middle name but I digress. If you choose to use Edythe, which is a beautiful name BTW, she most likely won't have ten others in her class with the same name.
The other thing to worry about is initials. You don't want the kids initials to be ASS or SNM or something like that.
As for your Gavin, sometimes names just come when the baby is born. I had a million names when my daughter was born and I didn't use any of them; from the moment I saw her she was my Megan.
When I have another baby my hubby wants to name him Tiberious Nero. Great like he won't get beat up every day after school? With our genetics, he will probably be a red head with glasses too.
Personally, I like Knuckle Sandwich myself! Of course I liked Mike for my baby name too. His name would be Mike Grobe. (Say it out loud until it sounds like one word. You will see why it was vetoed! I will give you a hint we are both scientists.)

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 10:17 AMThose out-of-style names are coming back in style now, big-time. I guess it started with Ruby and Emma but now it's snowballing!! So the next generation coming up is going to have names like the generation of the '20s. Lily's my name and I spent my whole life hearing people say that same thing: oh, our dog is named that, our dead grandma was named that. Then in the late '80s suddenly it started getting fashionable and now it's everywhere, and the one thing I never ever expected -- that I'd have a mainstream name -- has happened. Luckily I always liked the name. Of the old names I really like Grace for girls and Henry for boys.

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 12:53 PMhahahahha.... my mom always said that she was going to marry someone with a fabulous last name... let me just tell you it's not much better, except now there are 5 letters instead of 4... =p Our's is the equivalent of "Smith"....
I could have been Carmen but thankfully my Dad stepped in and named me instead... now I have a name that is used for both genders, ( I won't say) but I can tell you it's been fun showing up with people expecting a guy and totally not getting one... I even got a job that way!! HA! Tho it can be weird as a Massage Therapist and having to make clear that I am a woman, tho I don't get any "suspicious" calls either... the two sides of my name I guess... *shrugs* :D This is why I can never name a girl Ryan...
Gavin's name pic of the day is "Chillata"....
this is getting me no where!! :D :D :D thankfully I have till August.... hee hee hee tho it's been a lot of fun...
I'm taking all suggestions!!

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 4:02 PMhhmmm... some clues.... I am the once was Ranjeet... and then Preggo Girl, now transfixed on MerryMarie, my middle name... =p
I love earthy names, unique sounds and origins... I like the name Ituri, tho it's a rainforest... :D a strong name is important, tho it may not sound tough at all...
This is my name-creator's block!!
Hmm... there is a strong Gaelic background in Gavin's name origin, and this baby has lots of Mediterranean behind she/him (for now we affectionately refer to baby as Shimmy... she+him=shim)....
maybe Edythe Sage? that keeps coming back to me...
but if this wee one be a boy, oh my, am I out in left field wandering around with my glove in my face...! :D :D :D
tho to me it's interesting that I am pretty consumed with a girl's name and not a boy's... twas the opposite way round with Gavin... I never really thought I needed one! this time I'm not so sure.... =p I am sure of wanting some chocolate.... mmmmm..... :D :D :D -

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 4:05 PMHA!! I just realized the very Female Mediterranean implication of a nickname like "Shimmy".... there are times I feel like I have a belly dancer in there too!! :D :D :D

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Thu, May 1, 2008 - 9:14 PMTry this, talk to your child before you sleep, ask the child what is their name or what they would like to be called. Meditate on your child and maybe your little one will speak to you in your dreams... -

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 10:01 AMoh, you could call her Coco! And I do love Savannah too though around here it's been real common past 20 years or so. And I think you want your child to have a unique name, that's what it sounds like. Of course I do love Gabriel too, and Sage too. Or you could just pick a word you like from a foreign language. For example, a friend named her cat "Czerny" which is prounced chair-nee and means black in Czech. And sounds so glamorous. You could give them one exotic name and one elegant, simple, more professional middle name and then they could choose one or the other to primarily use on their own. -

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 10:07 AMA gal from my department just had a baby last weekend, her name is Savannah Leigh. I think Savannah is becoming more and more popular. Older names seem to be coming back too. -

Re: Whats in a name.....?!?!
Fri, May 2, 2008 - 6:20 PMI like the name Mireille for a girl. French, pronounce mee-RAY. Or Miro (mee-RO) like the artist.
For boys, I like Roan, too. I like Tiberius Nero! I love the name of Cher's son, Elijah Blue.

There is a small village around here called Savannah, and everyone wants to leave it... (at least the young folk... :D) so I dunno know if it's the best name fer us... =p

Maybe Roan Chrysander...? I like that a lot! The greek just came to me.... :D :D :D Chrysander means "A Golden Man".... Roan means "Red haired"... I dunno if baby will have red hair tho... chances are slim!! :D hahaha!!
