Thanks Rain!

Rain

I read cards for about many years and have not touched them in about eight. At the time, I sensed that we needed a break from each other. I feel I am ready again. Very ready, so I was surprised to find this topic on my first exploration of Tribe.net

I have found that the Mythic Tarot is THE deck that works best for me. Many themed decks try to force their particular spin onto the cards. By contrast, the Mythic Tarot flows naturally, image and meaning only rarely jarring. It has the advantage of the classical themes and symbols that are inherent in the cards but so often over-looked.

I particularly like the fact the minor arcanna are tied into one myth per suit; this makes them easier to remember and gives them a deeper resonance than the seemingly arbitrary meanings assigned to them. I continue to have doubts about the minor arcanna’s place in the deck at all, but the mythic tarot has allowed me to appreciate their potential. (but…I have a great deal of studying yet to do on Tarot in general, and the minor arcanna in particular.)

I also like the Mythic Tarot’s insistence that all cards have a “positive & negative” meaning. The fact that one is upside down or not is irrelevant
( although I also find that “reversed” cards often do lean toward a reverse meaning within a reading). One could argue that this allows the reader to BS like the proverbial underhanded fortune teller “ you seem anxious… the spirits are telling me that you are seeking… is it a man.. no no its money yes… something having to do with your career etc etc” I would argue that the cards are like any symbol, capable of several meanings that have nothing to do with sideshow chicanery and everything to do the “collective unconscious” whatever the hell that is <g>

So, thanks for starting this tribe!

Best

    You are more than welcome!

I really love the amoral point of view with these cards... there's no finger pointing or accusatory tones... just observations that speak to the moment. Which reminds me! I also love the description of what a *moment* really is, as far as the tarot's concerned, that is in the book. Great perspective! :)

    Welcome!
