Hey Chad,
So including the Justin's and myself, so far I have found 8 artists here in Vegas who are definitely interested in participating. Justin Favela and I are going to round up a meeting this week with the artists to decide who wants to pair-up or go solo on the rooms, and then we will book them. So you advise us to book for June 26th, 27th, 28th, & 29th at TownHouse Motorlodge (775-323-1821) correct? Any other information on preparation for the trip would be great. At our meeting we will also determine car pool, art work transportation, and other expenditures like that too.
We are still rounding up other artists, but for right now we have eight people that are official!

Nada Video Promo

ALRIGHT MAGGOTS! LISTEN UP!

Hopefully you have all read Chad the Great's previous post about the need for a promotional video for Nada Motel. Chad and I have spoken, and as the People Taking Action we have reached a decision. So here's what we're doing:

Any artist involved with Nada Motel is welcome to submit a ten second clip of WHATEVER. Your art from last year, your art from this year, your dandruff and ear wax from this morning, your last drunken stumble. It will be posted on YouTube, so keep it in line with their submission guidelines. That's right, I'm talking to you, ya crazy nekkid art people.

Get these clips to myself or Chad by any socially acceptable means. If I have a choice, I prefer them to be hand delivered by a midget in a red jumpsuit who can lipsynch to Black Sabbath. But whatever. Once we have the clips, a blurb about Nada Motel and our Logo (along with other pertinent info) will be added to the end. All the videos will be propagated through the internets like a damned art virus. If they're really cool, I may make a longer clip as well.

Some pre-emptive answers for your forthcoming questions:

Will I help you shoot the ten second clip?
No. These days, everybody has access to a cell phone with video capability at the least, and all I want from you is a ten second clip. If you can't handle that, well, tough potatoes. Life ain't fair.

Can it be longer than ten seconds?
No.

Please can it be longer than ten seconds?
In the interest of not boring the internet community to tears, no.

Can I give you a *insert media type here...miniDV, Beta, VHS*
No. All clips should already be trimmed to ten seconds. They need to be in a digital format that I can drop into my editing software. That means just about any common video format, but it should be something that you can drop on a CD or (if it's small enough) e-mail.

Can I have the end of my video say something different?
No. But you're welcome to make your own bitchin' video.

How do I get the video to you?
Send me a message on Tribe. I'm not giving everyone my e-mail because I don't want to be overloaded with 100 megabyte video clips from people who didn't understand what I said above. Send me a message and we'll organize the handoff.

Hopefully that takes care of everything. If anyone has further questions, I will answer them promptly in a brusque and somewhat cavalier manner. Ha!

Trocadero Lounge and Cockpit

I, Tova Ramos, will be humbly hosting your bitchin' Nada Motel hangout, THE COCKFIGHT CLUB, at the Trocadero Lounge and Cockpit inside the El Cortez Hotel.

- I am actively seeking anyone interested in performing anything in the cockpit/stage (no charge to perform)
- I am actively seeking visual artists to interpret the Cockfight theme for display in the club (no charge to show, but please honor the theme)
- I am actively seeking anyone who wants to fight in the cockpit. Please provide a consensual partner.
- I am actively seeking quest decorators and slave labor to assist in the construction of the Cockfight Club.
- I am actively seeking donations of materials or capital to help the Cockfight Club kick ass. Please note that the room rental is $600, which I am paying out of pocket in order to show you sons-of-bitches a good time. Your donations would be greatly appreciated.

First there was Dada Motel, an art event people are still talking about. Then there was "Selections from Dada Motel" at UNLV, that got pretty good press from what I have read. Now there is "Dada Motel" the film by Project Moonshine about to premiere at the Reno Film Festival.

Nada Motel needs an introductory VIDEO. We can then put it on YouTube and other blogs. It should give the vibe of our event so people know what's goin' on, and just what we think we're doin'. Someone's gonna make this thing, we'll keep it short & simple. Now, what to talk about? That's the question.

So what do you think the world should learn about Nada Motel in a 1 minute video? (drop us any ideas that come to mind please.)

Just sending a friendly reminder to let everyone know that our Dada Motel doc will be playing at the Reno Film Festival on Sunday May 4th at 11:30 AM. Prior to the screening there will be a live, Dada performance by Brad Bynum and some other awesome musicians from around town. Basically, a noise improv of sorts...similar to their performance at the Trocadero Room last summer. So they'll play and do their thing...and then our film will screen.

I've got a bunch of art to post, but not enough to fill up a whole room. Plus, it's cheaper to split the rent. I spoke to Cynthia the other day and it sounds like there are still rooms left but they're filling up fast. I do fairly realistic oil painting--human figures and some other stuff. Nada Motel is...

Nada Motel is YOU promoting YOU. We're looking for artists to fill the TownHouse Motorlodge (80 rooms). The El Corez, for the moment, is FULL. Artists that participated last year got first preference for the Cortez. They MAY be opening up a few more rooms, but we can't confirm this right now. 17 rooms have been filled there so far.

But the TownHouse is next to be filled. I'm rooming there. Doors of the rooms at this venue are directly outside in traditional motel fashion. Go to this link to see some shots of the TH motel: http://picasaweb.google.com/chadsorg You'll see photos of the other motels available for artists too but we're first filling the TownHouse with artists, or at least 30 rooms of it. So go now, make your reservation for June 26th thru the 29th, but to be easy on yourself, make it for a full week (Tue. to Tue.) for set-up and break down. This is at your own discretion. One week is about $150.

related to the last topic which Asa brought up, Arlington has motels. I've spoke with the guy that owns all of them from 2nd to 4th. Should we invite art sprawl? I'm sending out the smoke signals for those artists that are unfortunate enough to live in other cities. And they're down like a carpet. It's only 2 blocks worth of motels. Y'all? Whadaya think?

Location Consensus

So...the e-mail interchange on this topic was inconclusive. Time to revive it. My question and thoughts on the subject are as follows. It's important that everybody knows what the status is so we can decide to join the mad rush for Cortez rooms or not.

The question: To sprawl away from the Cortez epicenter or not?

My thoughts: It should be the artist's prerogative. If you set up on 4th Street you'll be away from the main event and therefore ignored by the media (and therefore the crowds) to a certain extent. If you're comfortable with that, you can take advantage of a little more freedom in a little bit crazier part of town. The people who are really into it will make it anyway.

I do understand the idea of having a cohesive body of work in one place. But hey...it's no big deal to put a couple of extra dots on the map, and it contributes greatly to the overall anarchy of the event.

As far as the 4th street scene goes, it's a damn shame the Jazz Club is gone. But we still have Dave Muskin with his photography and kick-ass bar, and Studio on 4th has a lot of potential. And there's plenty of other dive bars, strip clubs, and vacant lots where anybody could make anything happen.

I liked the outlying DaDa Motel events last year. The Vomitorium was one of my favorites. So I guess that shows where my preferences lie. We need to maintain a healthy dose of anarchy.

Urban Market

apparently Reno Redevelopment or affiliates have bought up the Green Room / Liquid Lounge building and are planning an Urban Market. I think it;s going to be farmer's market style, indoor /outdoor. The exciting thing is that the target date for the soft opening would be June. Hopefully they would be open to coordinate with us.
