Live Drums - Live Belly Dancers! :)

Don't you just love it when a restaurant advertises "Live Belly Dancers" as opposed to dead ones or what???? Anyway - Crescent Moon Belly Dance Studio has started a new & fun activity on the first Tuesday of each month 7:00 - 8:00. It all started last month when Cybele came into the advanced class to work with us on how to dance to live music. We had so much fun we decided to start doing it every month except in December. Everyone is welcome, including musicians. There is a $10 drop in fee if you are not registered in the advanced class. It is a great opportunity for dancers to work on improvisation, freestyle, and to polish up on their zill playing. It is a great opportunity for drummers to polish up on their doms & their teks. Our next one is Tuesday, October 7th at 7:00. Hope to see some new faces.

Fall Session Starts Sept 8th 2008!

Belly Dance I: Beginner
Mondays 7:15 - 8:15pm
Belly Dance I is catered to those who have no prior belly dance experience.

Belly Dance II: Intermediate
Mondays 8:30 - 9:30pm
Belly Dance II is for those on an intermediate dance level: a minimum of 4 prior beginner classes with Nadirah Johara or at least 1 year prior experience. Basic vocabulary and movement execution is expected. Admittance to this class is by instructor permission!

Belly Dance III: Advanced
Wednesdays 7:30 - 8:30pm
Belly Dance III is for Advanced dancers only. This class will focus on advanced level technique, combinations, music theory, and performance. At least 2 years of intermediate level of dance is required. Admittance to this class is by instructor permission and/or audition!

Help!

I am trying to put together a presentation dedicated to the diversity of dance and I need photos. I am looking for photos of dancers....all styles(not just ME dance styles ALL dance), genders, heights, weights, ethnicities, and ages. I am looking for the variety of photos too...action shots, posed shot, group shots, solo shots, rehearsal shots, preparation shots....etc.

Raks into Spring!!! Mabruk to Nadirah and her Jewels!

. . for a successful event this past weekend.

Katia was great! Thank you for bringing her again, Nadirah. I particularly appreciate the fact that we got to have one day for folkloric . . . something that is sorely missed around here. I always feel that to get exposed to Nubian, Tunisian, Moroccan, etc. that we have to travel outside the DFW area (well even Texas. In this case, the Lebanese Nargileh choreography was a good change of pace.

The facility was good with nice wood floors and mirrors all around. The Saturday night show was great at the 5th Ave Arts and the "after show" dinner at Chadras(?) was fun . . . even if I did leave a bit early because I was tired . . . the baba ghanouj definitely met my standards for lots of garlic, lol! Everyone else's food looked really great and I was wishing I felt up to eating a full dinner! Another trip might be in order to this nice new place . . . . if someone wants to organize a field trip to FW, LOL!!!

Once again, Thanks to all who made this a great weekend . . . not the least of which is Katia from Boston!

What would you like to see from NTMEDA?
This is a VERY general question but we are trying to cater to the dance community as much as possible and would love to hear from you!

What kinds of things/articles do you want to see in the Papyrus?
-what you do/don't like about the curret publication
What kind of events would you support if NTMEDA provided them?
-inexpensive workshops

-cultural outings

We cross many dance forms and are affiliated with no particular studio....this is an amazing opportunity for us all to join in a unified dance and help our world/community.

Our first meeting of the year will be on March 1 at the Hurst Recreation Center from 8-9pm. All subsequent meetings will be held on the 1st Thursday of the month as well. Please bring $3 to cover room rental and administrative paperwork (making copies).

In July, we will perform in the annual anniversary of PURE's first procession in NYC. All PURE chapters across the world perform on the same day to celebrate the anniversary. We will also be dancing at Kismet this year.

This group is democratic. Brandy and I are your facilitators, but we are here to help you and the group flourish. It's everyone's group and all ideas and input are welcome. At this meeting, we will

- Get your information
- Tell you about PURE
- Set date, time, and place for anniversary processional.
- Set date, time, and place for Kismet.
- Pick charities, events, or causes to spread awareness
- DANCE and DRUM!

If you have someone who doesn't wish to perform but would like to help, we also have assistant positions. These wonderful people join us at our procession and help us in many ways.

Katia teaches aspiring young dancers in Middle Eastern movement technique and coaches professionals in performance technique and music interpretation.

Katia teaches dance workshops in classical and folkloric styles of Oriental dance. With her years of experience in theater as well as many years in nightclub performance, Katia feels that "dancers need good technique and the ability to think on their feet to live music. The study of choreography not only inspires one with beautiful dances but increases sensitivity to music, enhances interpretation of musical dynamics and builds dance vocabulary for live performance."
