UPDATE ON NAKISH

Hello All:

Nakish had surgery on her left hand the last week in June. Since then she has been in therapy. The surgery was to repair /replace worn worn tendons in two of her fingers that she had lost movement. The surgery went well, but the healing and recovery is not going so well.
I spoke with her two days ago, and she said that her hand was in pain. She is anxious to heal, so we can resume our "Summer Heat"'

As of now, Nakish said that she can't even drive, so lets send healing energy her way.

SUMMER HEAT CANCELLED*

Hello Dear friends:

With Much regret, Summer Heat 2008 is cancelled.
Nakish will be going to have surgery soon. We waited this long to tell you because she wanted to have our seminar anyway.
But she would not have been 100%, and give the Dynamic Show and workshop that she is known for..

Please send her your energy and
prayers for a speedy recovery.

This is Nakish

Let me update you. Ms. Ravenmoon and I have been very busy organizing my upcoming Summer Hear 2008. What an exciting work shop we have put together ! The three wonderful teachers we have chosen brings years of experience with much knowledge of the dance from different perspectives. I am truly hoping to see as many members of my tribe and their friends if possible. Don't wait too long in sending response, come join us.

There is an interesting article coming. Keep your eyes open for the April/May/June issue " The Chronicles " A Belly Dance Oasis Magazine. Guess who has been featured. The Lady With The Eyes, me. If you have not yet subscribed to it, I highly recommend that everyone consider it.

On several occasions I have had the pleasure of meeting some tribe members at other events. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. They bring concern about the direction where Belly Dancing is going, but still also delightful comments.

Tribe memberS
I want to welcome & thank all who have joined my
tribe. Your Patience
e is greatly appreciated. I had
no idea so many peope have been searching the
for me.
All this interest comes as a surprise, I hope every
one has read my interview in the Gilded Serpent,
It will give some information about my life. Every
thing that was written is true, abut there is more.
Eventually more information will come out but not
all at once.
I am so pleased to hear that there are more
African-American & Asian ladies that have decided to
join me in the beautiful dance.
Ladies , I so realize that there is still
discrimination in club's . But let it not be amony
ourselves in this dance. If we ever want to win we
must band together at all times. Support from all is
very critical.
I know the dance has changed some but tradition is
tradition & it must be preserved . That dosen't mean
we cannot incorporate new ideals into the dance.
Separation is not the word. To "win" is. We have
two words on our side to fight against discrimination
in the clubs ; expose & conquer let use them.
Alway's & never forget it dosen't matter what our
culture or back ground is we are born American.
What is that?
Egalitarianism= A quote
1) a belief in equality with respect to social and
political & economic privileges.
2) A social philosophy advocating the removal of
inequalities among people.

These Club owners left their depressed countries to
come to the U,S.A. for a free life style, We gave it
to them. But yet, they bring a demoralizing attitude
towards our women here. What they need to do is look
over their own shoulders. They themselves
come in all shades of color, hair texture , facial&
body structure.
Shall we say stupidity will keep people ignorant.
What an unfortunate category to be in, There minds &
eyes are still closed.
I started fighting for all women rights against club
owners in the 70's with no support from other dancers
or teachers in this field. I won, in due time, &
gained respect.
Belly Dancer's of the U.S.A, don't let my hard
earned struggle go down the drain. We must work
together.

Since my interview their has been one lady who has
been corresponding with me on a regular basis . She
come to my second large sponsors work shop by Harry
Saroyan in the 70's . Her name is Anniitra Ravenmoon
. With many long hours of conversation she has
convinced me that its time to come back out again .
So therefore I am planing an intensive work shop in
2008 . In order for me to present a work shop a
significantly large response is necessary.
How about a touch of excitement. Let as Anniitra
Ravenmoon , sitting next to me.

Hello Lovely Ladies"
After welcoming me into her lovely home, Nakish and I
have been discussing many things, one being her
taking her rightful place in our art form of Belly
Dancing once again. So, lets all get together and
make this happen!!!!

I am thrilled that I got to meet Ms. Nakish tonight at Rakkasah. I was thinking about this on the way home. From the moment I heard about her on here,she became someone that I wanted to meet...and I just did!! Awesome!

I also got to meet Ms. Ravenmoon....whose also awesome!(She,of course,introduced me to Nakish). Both of these ladies are very sweet, and welcoming.

How wonderful that the amazing Nakish will be doing a workshop. High time and congratulations. I was out of the country when she called me, but I want to offer my sincerest hope that this workshop will be heavily attended and the start of many more. I was in Nakish's first troupe and can't stress enough what a positive influence she was on my dance and my life. Lessons with Nakish are more than just footwork...she has so much to offer and her love of this dance comes straight from her heart and soul. Don't hesitate at all if you are thinking of attending...just do it!

A NIGHT AT AL MASRI

Friday was such a grand time, spending it with Sausan and her students, and at her Al Masri resturant .

And to be with the Great Nakish was like a dream!!!
It was crowded already, and to really make it wonderful, was: Several countries were represented. The universal language in all of the world is dance. We danced until almost closing time. There were a Russian party celebrating a birthday--Egyptians in another party, Europeans, and Africans
in another party, Syrians in another party. And we all danced until we were sweating and ululating/zaghareeting. Some of the photos are

Bravo Sausan,

I was so pleased to see the article on Madame Nakish! As one of her first students, I want to applaud her teaching ability, her wise words of counsel and her loving compassion in launching my own career. A few years ago my producer and I did a long interview with her on video at which my youngest daughter was present. Nakish used to dance around her studio with Sarah (my daughter) on her hip and Sarah would laugh and clap her hands. It was an honor to hear Sarah's comments and see the awe and respect in her eyes at meeting this wonderful woman. Everything Nakish touches becomes beautiful...she is a true ARTIST. I am proud to see her receiving the honor she deserves. I agree, we need to honor those who paved the way for us. There is true gold there!

Lovely Nakish sent me a note and wanted to tell everyone hello and wanted to say that there has been interest having her resurface and teach workshops again. She asks for comments and what kind of benefits they would expect from a workshop.
So what do we want? She had also asked if I was coming out to Rakassah. I can't make it, but for those who are please let her know.

Nakish what was it like when.....

I personally know how difficult it is to have a dance career and be darker than a paper bag. What was it like for you? Did the African-American Community ignore or diss you? Did other dancers annoint you with a dance style other than what you knew you were? When did you stop dancing? Where are all of your old costumes?
