Drinking bottled water may not avoid the problem at all either.

Re: Investigation finds vast array of medications in tap water
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 9:18 AMI'm surprised this doesn't specifically list birth control pills, like the report that came out last year did.
Yeah, they're not spending enough research on what happens OUTside the body.
Hell, they're not spending enough research on what happens inside the body, either. Or in the future. Or after prolonged use. Or after secondary exposure. and so on ad infinitum. -

Re: Investigation finds vast array of medications in tap water
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 10:39 PMII've also heard, from a microbiology lab instructor whoi s VERY concerned about the subclinical antibiotics we are getting through the water supply, that there are detectable caffeine levels in our water and it's getting worse(and maybe makes some of the other pharmaceuticals more potent?
you know,it's time to reconsider the whole wastewater system...dumping everything the body excretes, and burned or spoiled food and leftover medication, and contraband drugs, into what's supposed to be drinking quality water, then scooping it out and cleaning it and sing toxic chemicals to kill off pathogens, may not be the most efficient or healthy way to ensure public health. what's a "garbage disposal?"a way to grind up leftover food and run it into the water too.
another microbiologist friend told me years ago that flush toilets aren't as sanitary as we'd like to think: according to my friend you make an aerosol of your shit every time you flush water on it (so best to put the lid down before you flush,I guess.)
then we got people who don't understand that the water and stuff that enters storm drains goes directly to the nearest body of surface water (in our case, the SF Bay) I;ve got this neighbor who throws her cigarette butts in the gutter routinely;I told her they are going to the Bay to poison some fish that someone who is low on money is going to catch for dinner another lady in our neighborhood thinks a storm drain is a good place to throw enpty milk and soft rinkbottles.poor turtles and fish...and us.
m,y dad used to flush cigarette butts; how about yours? nicotine and fiberglass in your drinking water, anyone?
and there was this big campaign in the last year to convince us that bottled water is hype because or drinking water is so pure,uh huh. bottled water MAY be a hype...wish they'd test hat too.
it;s not just surface water...round water is polluted, though much of that maybe from agriculture...antibiotics in animal feed become antibiotics in animal pee and poop, become antibioticsin drinking water...become more resistant organisms. -

Re: Investigation finds vast array of medications in tap water
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 4:22 PMi live in nocal too - sierra foothills. we have well water up here, but i still don't trust it. you can't filter out things like antibiotic traces can you? it's no wonder to me that so many people are getting cancers, autoimmune diseases etc. but what can we do? do you serieously think that the bottled water we drink is any better?/?? -

Re: Investigation finds vast array of medications in tap water
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 4:26 PMBottled water is *NOT* better in most cases as it is typically filtered tap water at best.
Water distillation is probably our best bet.

Re: Investigation finds vast array of medications in tap water
Sun, March 16, 2008 - 4:52 PMsorry, but distillation only removes the inorganics. the organics, chemically speaking, still remain. ie: paint thinner, and hundreds of thousands much more deadly. granted, better than tap water. but water being so important to life, one must seek much better. reverse osmosis DOES NOT REMOVE FLOURIDE; sure, it removes some but no where near the level you are led to believe.
