  • That is really no surprise. Manufacturers don't care that they include synthetic beta carotene or synthetic vitamin E which are both horrible for your heath. The vitamins usually have to be converted into their usable forms (co-enzymes) and the minerals are garbage. Magnesium oxide is crap and so is calcium carbonate. Venting is good. Thanks for bringing up one of my pet peeves. Aloha, Lamaku.
    • i never wanted to believe this...
      a tuff pill to swallow
i was conned for decades that a pill could '"supplement" or really, replace the live miracle food.
or maybe better put? i conned myself into believing what was spoonfed...
sounded too good, hopefully, with experts, it must be true?
      welcome...
your body actually treats vitamins as poisons
when dr day, head of ??? at san fran./ca hospital did her own research, as she had CANCER (you should see that tumor)
she would/could not believe it was a fraud/hoax and then using radiation, chemo, as the cure
as that usually kills faster than the 'disease'
at that time she was speaking out about the fraud behind AIDS
    • I dare someone – anyone – to put together a healthy, low-fat, low cholesterol, low calorie diet that actually contains the proper amount of every single vitamin,, mineral, protein and whatever else that every human needs on a daily basis that's affordable without including a single synthetic ingredient or supplement.

And bear in mind that women need additional calcium, additional iron and young women need additional folic acid.

Seriously, I don't believe it's even possible. Either that or someone's lying to us about what we actually need *every single day.*
      • Hi Penny. What you ask would be possible if people did not drink coffee or drink alcohol or eat sugar or sugar substitutes or eat foods that contain lectins that attack their red blood cells or eat foods with pesticides and other toxins in them. Many mineral supplements are complexed to transporters that are also neurotoxins. Iron supplements can harm your health and most should be off the market. The only real folic acid is now only available by prescription (methyfolate). Folic acid often goes unused by the body as it needs complex transformations that many people cannot make. Also, unoxidized cholesterol in the diet is good for you. Oxidized cholesterol from high heat and overcooking is what is harmful. Sugar raises bad cholesterol more than anything. Did I leave anything out? Please don't take this as an attack. You represent the majority. I know too much for my own good sometimes. Aloha, Lamaku.
        • Oh, I didn't see anything attacking in there.

But you basically said, "as long as you don't eat food sold in stores…"

And, no matter how healthy we try to be, most of us don't raise everything we need ourselves.

:) It's one of those difficult issues, where the world has changed to the point where everything that's labeled "healthy" isn't, and everything they've told you to avoid they've only told you to avoid because they're not selling. (And if they were selling it, it would be processed, and therefore not healthy anymore.)

And, just to be a GIANT pain… Know what else increases your cancer risk? Being related to ANYone that has EVER had ANY type of cancer. Yeah, it's not just an increase of breast cancer if your mom has breast cancer. It's an increased risk of ANY cancer if you are related to ANYone who had ANY type of cancer. At this point in time, isn't that damn near all of us?
          • Hi again. You are talking about a world without spiritual healing which is what I do. Also, dying is inevitable. As long as I'm not eaten by sharks, I'll do my best to die as happily as possible. If you know your blood type, I recommend www.dadamo.com to discover how to eat for your blood type. Shop at Whole Foods more and appreciate what you have as often as possible. Aloha, Lamaku.
            • I'm just at the point where I'm going to do what I'm going to do, and I'm not going to listen to anyone who tells me otherwise.

It's kind of like politics. I prefer to sit in the middle, because the people far away on both sides are too damn crazy for me to listen to. (I'm not accusing you of being crazy, or at least I'm not attempting to.)

But as much as I know there's a danger in taking all the pharmaceuticals and eating all the processed foods, I'm also not ready to believe I can eat nothing but soy and raw foods and let acupuncture do the rest forever. (That's a gross mischaracterization and generalization, but sometimes that's what it sounds like to me.)

Sometimes I eat bad, sometimes I eat good. If I get cancer, no one will be able to tell me WHY I got cancer, anyway. Too many variables. (Plus I smoked for 12 years. I'm more likely to believe any cancer came from that than from my mult-vitamin or my glass of milk for breakfast.)
              • I thought you wanted some direction. After all, this is the naturopathic medicine tribe. I will say one more thing however. The major protein in milk is casein. There is quite a bit of good evidence that it causes cancer. I use vanilla flavored almond milk in coffee when I drink it and really cannot tell the difference. I wish you well. Aloha, Lamaku. PS- eating for your blood type seems to also help with weight loss and depression.
