I have a question:
I have what is called subclinical hypothyroid, but the symptoms have been really bad. I have been taking Raw Thyroid and avoiding broccoli and soy products. I have more mental clarity and I have slightly more energy, however, the weight has not come off despite diet and activity.
I am wondering is there something else I can do to help the rest of the symptoms go away and get back to my normal life?

Re: Hypothyroid
Sat, January 19, 2008 - 8:24 AM'subclinical' hypothyroid should not really cause such intense symptoms. subclinical means you have some symptoms with an ok reading for your thyroid.
as for the weight, the thyroid in and of itself doesn't really cause weight gain, it exacerbates the supporting symptoms to cause the weight gain. that is why the wgt continues after the thryoid is treated. unfortunately, you will have to continue with diet and activity.
the weight goes on so easily, yet so hard to take off!!!!! doesn't seem fair, but i guess it is the penance for our sins....... -

Wed, January 30, 2008 - 3:38 AMThank you!
The deal is my blood tests are coming back saying they are sub clinical, I think the value is 4? I did find out that the new standard is 3, but most Dr's have not caught on. To be honest, I would rather not take synthetic hormone anyway if I can at all help it.

Re: Hypothyroid
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 1:09 PMwhich was 4? there are several test, but many only run one test, which in my opinion should be considered malpractice....but that is up to the insurances.
Make sure a T3 is done as well.
There are medications that are natural, but they have no way of knowing if you are going to get the same dose each time...... -

Re: Hypothyroid
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 4:32 PMActually, I just got a call from my Endo today.. all the tests they ran, I have Hashimoto's disease.
I don't actually remember, but I believe it was the TSH 4 that came back a 4. My primary care said that was sub-clinical. Then I found out they changed the lab values, so brought that to her attention and I got an emergency apt, with an Endo three months ago. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and he was pretty doubtful that it was my thyroid but had a bunch of tests run anyway. Lo and behold I am not crazy.
I got Mary's book out of the library today and I already got one of the supplements that she recommended. I go back to see the Endo in a few weeks and I am going to ask for the Armour thyroid. I would prefer that over the synthetic form.
One of the comforting thoughts is that despite allopathic medicines short comings, there is hope with natural medicine.
Oh, and with Hashimoto's disease, they have to look for the antibodies. -

Re: Hypothyroid
Wed, January 30, 2008 - 7:10 PMquite familiar with hashimoto's dz. Armour thyroid is a good natural, it is the med i refered too.
don't be surprized if your endo isn't thrilled with your choice. BUT remember it is YOUR body!!!
Good luck!

Re: Hypothyroid
Mon, February 4, 2008 - 6:29 PMI am reading her "weight loss" book and I LOVE IT!! I made a few changes that have made a BIG difference. BTW, I was also checked for endo because of mind numbing cramps every month, but as it turns out it was just low thyroid to blame.
I now take my Armour thyroid AT NIGHT before going to bed. It helped a lot although it is taking awhile to adjust and not get sleep disturbances. I feel a big difference already overall.
I stopped eating soy products which was really really hard for me. I used to eat everything with soy milk, and have a soy yogurt for a snack, and something with tofu for dinner. Soy interferes with your uptake of thyroid hormone.
I now do a lot of the supplements Mary recommended and I feel alive again. I take a liquid amino acid drink too. -

Re: Hypothyroid
Sat, April 5, 2008 - 10:40 PMHi,
I was diagnosed 5 years ago with subclinical hypothyroidism also. The dr said that it wasn't worth medicating. Most of the time it doesn't show up in the blood test unless you are really having big problems and by then sometimes it is too late to reverse the problem, unfortunately. I was gaining weight rapidly and could not stay awake at work in the afternoons. I had enormous exhaustion at times where I absolutely could not keep my eyes open. I was a mess emotionally. I have gone thru "hell" and back trying to find a natural way to treat this and feel normal again. Nothing has worked for me better than taking the Leptinol and Thyroid Helper found on Byron Richards website (which has gugulipid (sp) It might be worth looking into. .......www.wellnessrewources.com. I had tried just taking the Thyroid Helper by itself for some time, which helped some, and then supplimenting with several drops of potasium Iodide. I found that I felt "driven" by the Iodide and so I decided to try the Leptinol. It works wonders and is not too expensive. It is much better for your thyroid than taking the Armor or synthetic suppliments. It doesn't make your thyroid dependant, just suppliments and causes the thyroid to work correctly. You might have an hair analysis done. If you have mercury fillings it could be affecting your thyroid adversely.
By the way, you must avoid all "raw" crucerferous vegetables (the cabbage family) cooked is ok. Radishes help spur your thyroid and so does raw vegetables. Stay clear of peaches and aproicots as they lessen your thyroid function as well. Exercise or just jumping on a rebounder before you start you day can help emensely as it stimulates your whole body to work properly as well as the thyroid. Also you might look into an adrenal support type suppliment. If you have undergone a lot of stress, you could just have stressed out adrenals and just boosting your adrenals could stop the symptoms. I've learned quite a bit since I started my quest for health. If you order a book called "Young Again" by John Thomas which is free, you will find out all sorts of good information. Do your searching, however. He offers a detox which I have decided to take and it is helping rid my body of many toxins right now. I'm waiting to see the full results after 3 more weeks as it will be completed then. Let me know if you would like his information.
I wish you well.
