I'm looking for a full size wine cask in decent condition. I'd need to be able to waterproof it, in order to hold ice and to cut holes/drill holes for the taps, drain and in order to get the kegs inside. Alternately if any one has seen a small cask thats roughly 24" long we could use that for the tap system with a copper coil to cool the beer as it pours. I can supply the rest of the hardware and co2 needed.

Tue, July 17, 2007 - 9:34 AMI am not certain I understand what you are looking for regarding "full sized wine cask"
Are you looking at a standard barrel? Something used? I recomend you looking at Wine Business Weekly... They have a really nice listing of classifieds for used barrels and equipment...
winebusiness.com/usedbarrels/
Some of it may be sourced in Lodi, so it wouldn't be like you are trying to run all over the state looking for this stuff...

Tue, July 17, 2007 - 10:38 AMI think he wants to be able to serve his own home brew... If I am not mistaken by the picture of his little operation in his garage...
I just hope we don't go blind in the process...
Oh, hoppy happyness...

Re: Period kegerator
Tue, July 17, 2007 - 8:01 PMYes, exactly. I'll try and do a drawing of what I have in mind. This should be usable for both commercial and home brew if i make it right. I doubt I'll have it ready for this run with all the other crap i'm working on. The barrels do not need to be in wine usable condition, just sealed enough to hold Ice. And before anyone gets frightened by the homebrew, every batch I've made has been under the strict tutelage of a thrice california state champ homebrewer, me pappy. -

Re: Period kegerator
Wed, July 18, 2007 - 10:13 AMWell, there is another option, I know in American Canyon you can get old barrels along Hwy 29 in the industrial area by the airport, but I assume they also have like businesses in Lodi... (As you can find them all over Napa and Sonoma..._
People like using old barrels as planters and for garden asthetics... You might be able to find something useable through Nurseries in the area...
However, if I where you, I would try your local winery along the 99 - maybe Delicato (however I think that may be farther south than where you are located) - and see if you can talk to someone in production to see if they have something used... In some cases they might let you have something older like an unused 7-8 year old American Barrel free...

Re: Period kegerator
Wed, July 18, 2007 - 3:04 PMThere's a place I know in Napa that sells them for $20-$30 each. I might be able to pick it up when I drive by but you'd have to come and get it. -

Thu, July 19, 2007 - 10:55 AMThe 10 Gallon Keg is roughly the size you asked for, but I bet the 2 gallon would be fine if you're just after a Jockey Box to house the coil for a single tap:
