Please Help and Support My Ride...

I am pulling my Bicycle out of mothballs and I have started to train again. It has been 16yrs since I Rode my bicycle in an event like this. Those of you who have known me for a long time remember when I used to race. Well here is a chance for me to get back on my bike and Raise money for a good cause, to help fight Diabetes. I have two family members with Diabetes and have lost a family member to diabetes. Two of my closest friends I grew up with Dan and Mark both are living with Diabetes. I presently work at Abbott Diabetes Care in R&D developing new and better devices to help make the lives of those living with Diabetes a little bit better. It is a job that I am proud of and it gives me a since of pride that I am making a difference in peoples lives. Please help me in my quest. Below is the official email and info for sponsoring me. I recently accepted the challenge of cycling in the American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure fund-raising event. The Tour de Cure is a series of cycling events held in over 80 cities nationwide. The Tour is a ride, not a race; it features different route lengths from a leisurely 10-mile course to a demanding 100-mile journey. I have joined thousands of others to pedal in support of the Association's mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Thanks so much for having me come ...ifyouknowwhatImean to fair. I had such a WONDERFUL weekend, even despite the rain. Actually It was fun. I got to play all kinds of music with strange people.

Unfortunately, since faire I have been missing my digital recorder. It is an Olympus DS-30 Digital Voice Recorder.

I remember I had it when I was sleeping in the Inn Friday night and then got rained out of there, I may have left it...hope not. But still, I can't find it.

Let me know if you find it. It has been incredibly helpful for learning new music and recording tune ideas that I have. I highly recommend one for musicians. It allows me to practice when the band isn't around.

Thanks again for all your hospitality and groping... A girl needs a good grope now and again. I'll try to make it out for the last weekend...otherwise, maybe Folsom???

My new friends...

No, not you, Minstrels! I mean Dogs n' Doublets and Stark Ravens who I hung out and partied with a bit "backstage" (the "greenroom") at Folsom. They were so funny and when they said, "Hey! The minstrels are up, lets go have some fun." I said, "I'm in!" The next thing I know, we're all jumping up in surprise to you all and dancing like fools behind the back barrier to the audience area! Those guys crack me up!

You Minstrels:
I've known many of you minstrels for some time but many of you I got to know for the first time this year! Especially Skippy-he knows what I'm talking about. I've come to love your act and have become a minor groopy. I look forward to seeing you guys at Valhalla next year! You guys rock! Great showmanship, clever humor and fun music! Some of you I'll see in a couple of weeks in a different world, some not until later. Thanks for the good times this season.

Period kegerator

I'm looking for a full size wine cask in decent condition. I'd need to be able to waterproof it, in order to hold ice and to cut holes/drill holes for the taps, drain and in order to get the kegs inside. Alternately if any one has seen a small cask thats roughly 24" long we could use that for the tap system with a copper coil to cool the beer as it pours. I can supply the rest of the hardware and co2 needed.

Minstrels T-shirts

I am proposing getting t-shirts this year. We got some really cool t-shirts given to the ale crew at the Pirate Festival and I have the name of the printer who did them. They would be about $18 a piece. I could collect the cash from all interested parties and get as many as we pay for. It doesn't seem we need to order a certain amount. Would anyone be interested in having a Minstrels t-shirt?

I propose a cream shirt with the logo in a brownish black on the back. Then maybe on the breast (yes, I said breast) have "Carpe Rectum Tour, 2007) What do y'all think? It would be nice to have them before the next leg of the tour...

Bad news from Lake Tahoe

I'm sorry to report that Jeff Houston has now confirmed the Tahoe cabin we stayed in during Valhalla the last two years and while recording "Walk in the Woods" has been destroyed by the Angora Fire that is still burning up there. Of the 29 homes in the immediate vicinity, seven were salvaged while 22 burned.

I will pass on messages to Jeff from those of you who care to express yourselves on this topic.

The Scene
The cheerful glow in this large dining room emanates from bright yellow and green walls and the smiles of its charming owners. Churrasco--Brazilia n barbecue--is circulated to each table on skewers with great pride, often by waitstaff in traditional costume. A full bar, salad bar, glass-topped tables and casual atmosphere ensure everyone's comfort. A small stage hosts live bands and colorful dancers.

The Food
Meat, meat and more meat fills the menu, such as the feijoada completa, a stew of beef, pork, sausage and black beans served with a pork chop on the side. The gallinha assada na cerveja is a smoky half-chicken marinated in tangy spices and black beer. All dishes are accompanied by heaping sides of rice, collard greens, and yucca flour. Breakfast offers tasty, less-meat heavy fare.

We went to the Café do Brasil on a Friday night, after making a reservation as recommended by friends who had been there for a Churrasco. The Brazilian barebecue they are serving is outstanding! Excellent meats, tasty and as much as you can eat, with a good choice of vegetables and salads at the buffet. The waitress was very friendly and helpful... (she is the owner, we later found out), she even explained to us where this special BBQ (Churrasco rodizio) comes from.
Pros: Inexpensive, Excellent Quality, Friendly
Cons: Cafeteria-like, Location, No parking
Overall user rating: Highly Recommended

`Larger Circle of Friends' is our household's periodic adult potluck gathering. The intent of said gatherings started as an effort on our housemate Caeli's part to meet new people. The communities that we tend to circulate in include the BD/SM, Goth, Pagan, Geek, and Polyamory communities (and probably some others that I've forgotten!) but we are certainly not averse to meeting new people from other social circles.

These gatherings will be for adults only as there is likely to be discussions of a non-child friendly nature. Also, we are a non-smoking household so if you feel you must light up during an event; please do so outside and downwind from the doors/windows. Alcohol (in moderation) is fine but we draw the line at any illegal substances, as we have no desire to attract unwanted attention from the local authorities.

If you have pet allergies, you will want to medicate appropriately as we have 3 cats in residence. If you have food allergies/restrictions, please let us know if you can so we can either attempt to provide something or label the offerings as needed.

If you are not already a member of the Yahoo group `dragoncats_den', you will need to email all 3 of the adult household members telling us your name and where we know you from. If we don't know you in person, we will ask that someone we do know vouch for you.

And finally, as this is not a public event (and our house does not have infinite capacity!), please do not repost this anywhere without prior permission.

My Sister is Missing

Hi all, I apologize for the off topic post, but I'm sure you will understand.

My sister, Susie Fox, is working northern faire at casa de fruita in St. Cuthbert's Guild. This is her first year.

She's been driving up to faire from Los Angeles on Friday evenings and camping at faire, driving back Sunday after ring out.

We haven't heard anything from her since Friday when she left for faire. She hasn't been to her house, and she didn't show up for classes in SoCal today.

My mom and I are very concerned and I'd ask for any help any of you can give to find out if she was seen at faire this weekend, and if anyone might know where she is.

Rehearsal Schedule Change

Hi all-

We are changing our rehearsal schedule to move open rehearsals to the first Wednesday of every month rather than the last Wednesday of every month. This will work better with the schedule of events we have each year.

Accordingly, the second open rehearsal date will be next Wednesday, May 3, precise location T.B.D. rather than this Wednesday as previously discussed. I will send out a further update later, and please accept our apologies for the short notice.

2006 Rehearsal Schedule

Here is a brief update on what our rehearsal schedule will be this year for
the Naughty Minstrels/Dead Poet's/Lord Chamblerlain's Men:

--Core (full-time cast) rehearsals will be weekly, every Wednesday at 7:30 PM;
generally, these will be at my place in Vallejo unless otherwise announced.
These will deal with music but also with other things (theatrics and poetry,
characterization, troupe business, planning, and so on).

--Open (entire cast, including part time) rehearsals will be on the last
Wednesday of every month, at 7:30 PM. The location of these rehearsals may
vary and will always be announced in advance. These rehearsals will focus
primarily on music and song rehearsal.

2006 Rehearsals

We have begun preliminary rehearsals for 2006, and will begin general rehearsals in March. These rehearsals will be in two formats:

-Open rehearsals. Once per month, all full-time or part-time cast invited. The focus will be on songs-songs-songs!

-Chamber rehearsals. Once per week except on open rehearsal days, core Minstrels/Poets circuit cast (y'now who you are!), the focus will be on songs, song construction, brand-new songs, poetry, improv, characterization, show structure, troupe business, Cognac, flower-bringing, buggery, and any other crazy thing we can think up!

More information on dates and locations of rehearsals will be coming shortly, though I can tell you that it's likely they will all fall on *Wednesday*, as is our custom before we get too deep into the circuit season.

So far, this has been an alcohol free zone, and I currently do not see a reason to change this.
Please do not bring children as this tends to be a very adult orientated function.

...to those who played with us extemporaneously and in the street, especially Lisa Beesley and Keith Stie.

...to those who lent us INVALUABLE assistance in other areas, whether it be from off stage, back stage, schlepping our instruments and other junk, or helping us limp drunkenly through the streets spewing walking music and poetry, especially Stefanie Gold, Elayne Clewett, and Jessie Horack.

...and finally, to our directors who seemed most of the time to be working even harder than we were, especially Kathy Kingman and Molly Drew.

It was a great year--eight faires, 86 shows (not counting company shows and street work), and nineteen total weekends of faire, and WE COULDN"T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT YOU!!!

Northern 2005 Gatelist!

I have spoken with some of you folks about coming in on our gatelist this year as "temporal" poets...actually, everone's temporal, if you think about it...

In any event, the particulars:

1. The only fee required for the gatelist is the $10 standard camping fee for the weekend.

2. From the faire's standpoint, you must have a viable costume and do a bit of performing--in our case that's mostly meet-and-greet, poetry and singing, our you could stand in a striking pose and look sexy, NATHAN and PAUL. And you must drink anything I hand to you. :-)

3. Our troupe (Naughty Minstrels/Dead Poets/Lord Chamberlain's Men) has access to a camping area in actors camp where you can pitch a tent, it's partly shaded and relatively flat.

4. If you intend to gatelist for a weekend, you need to let me know no later than Wednesday of the week prior. You can contact me via tribe mail or at my regular email address if you have it.

5. I'll likely be able to gatelist 2-3 people per weekend maximum.

"Cavalier" clothing items...

In keeping with our slightly more cavalier appearance this time around, I have been sourcing some clothing items. Here are a couple of useful tips:

1. If you want a half-cloak ("sword cape") Stefanie can make you one if time allows. For these she's charging $75 provided you supply the fabric. The one I was wearing at dress rehearsal is a good example.

2. I found a viable boot supplier at www.renboots.com, these folks have a pretty good selection of boots, many of which are more appropriate for "fantasy" faires but a few of which are fine for what we do, and their prices are reasonable. Also, on a customer service note, when I ordered mine they only had one pair left in my size and that pair was at the Tuxedo (New York) Renfaire and THE BOOTH MANAGER GRABBED THEM, JUMPED IN HIS CAR AND DROVE TO THE POST OFFICE TO SEND THEM TO ME BY EXPRESS MAIL THIS MORNING. My order was placed yesterday around 6:00 PM. Draw your own conclusions!

Northern 2005 Casting and Update

Some further information: we will be performing three shows a day (most likely of the straight songset variety, probably two diffferent sets) at the Port O' Call Stage. Two or three of us will make some very limited appearances in the "company" shows (Front Gate Call to Faire and Harvest Pageant). Other venues where we will likely perform selectively throughout the run: Alestand Two, Alestand Three, Plum Rock, and the small stage in the Friends of Faire yard. It is not known yet if we will be asked to "warm up" main stage audiences with some songs prior to the midday show as we were last year.

The Dead Poets will once again appear twice each day as the Lord Chamberlain's Men under the "Poet Tree" (Wine Garden tree) at Stafford Lake this weekend. This is the final weekend this year--and possibly ever--for this event:
