The word Nawari is an Arabic term used to discribe Gypsies who belong to the ethnic group known as Nawar (or Nawara). Egypt's most famous family of Ghawazi (Egyptian Gypsies) are the Nawari Mazin family. In the Arab world, Gypsies are called Nauar, hence the Nawari Gypsies. There is also a "Nawari" drum rhythym named after this group of gypsies.
