Fine art by NYoMI

public - created 02/20/07
Nyomi is a fine artist in San Francisco. She works primarily on canvas using the medium of watercolor, acrylic and oil paints. Nayomi is primarily self-taught and her subject matter is inspired by the ancient art and sculpture of South Asia.
Her current collection consists of large canvas tapestries that depict her own interpretations of Buddhist and Hindu deities. She is interested in re-visiting these concepts of the Divine through a feminist perspective as is evidenced by her painting, Female Buddha. Nayomi also takes as inspiration, the traditional artwork of the Kandyan region of her country of origin, Sri Lanka. Using the limited, but vivid color palette of this region, Nayomi strives to recreate artwork that evokes the particular ethos of the Kandyan period.
Nayomi's work has been shown at varied venues throughout California including San Francisco's Asian Art Museum as part of a Dhamaal Collective Special Event and at Grace Cathedral as part of SF World Music Festival's legendary concert with G.S. Sachdev & Zakir Hussain.
