Hi all! I am helping to start a PURE chapter in Portland Maine and am posting today for two reasons:
1) I'm hoping to connect with other PURE facilitators
2) I'm also looking for any dancers who would be interested in joining up with us!
We are starting weekly practices this Tuesday June 3 from 6:30 - 7:30 at the Portland New Church, 302 Stevens Ave.
Please feel free to contact me or just drop by.

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Sat, May 31, 2008 - 3:28 PMHey Jen! Make sure you touch base with Angie/Neylan about what you need to do to start a New England sub chapter for Maine (on here at people.tribe.net/9cf0d389-...a6bef9a56) . You may need to host a PURE workshop up in Maine with one of the NY founders. I mentioned this to Janie a while back but that was, well, a while back ;-P. Input on that Angie?
If you are not already on the New England PURE yahoo group you should get on there as well (groups.yahoo.com/group/newenglandpure/).
Good luck! -

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Mon, June 9, 2008 - 6:54 PMWith Pam moving, we don't really have a Sub-chapter covering that area- What I would recommend is for you to get together with myself or Pam before she leaves and go over the physical coverage of the area.
NYC recommends up to a 100mile distance between chapters- we tweak that a bit because we are so close and our people here tend to cross state lines in general. New England PURE makes the sub-chapters with a 1 hr drive time radius.
It's been my experience that usually is about the distance people are willing to travel and many times you may only get a couple of people at a time to commit to ongoing rehearsals. By using the sub-chapter approach we've been able to link up more people across our region and give a wider range of performance/event opportunities for our chapter.
In order for NYC to come up for a workshop- they want at least 10 people to do a workshop. The set up workshop focuses on bringing your group together, setting up a community experience within your group, and starting the PURE choreo. I would talk with Sarah Locke if you want to bring them up, she is the one who sets up the workshops. Or, if you would rather tie into NE PURE let me know and I can come up.

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 7:53 AMI have one person from the NH group who expressed interest in taking over as facilitator but she needed to wrap a few things up before taking this on. I'll ping her again and see if she won't take off with things. Technically it is about an hour drive between here (seacoast NH) and Portland, ME and of course much further from other parts of NH & ME. We could conceivably still have two groups provided there is sufficient membership in both. If both are lean then I would think combining the two would be a good option, although you stand the chance of losing the further north ME dancers who might find it hard to commute to NH or the further west NH dancers who likewise would find a commute to the Portland, ME area a bit much. I'd be inclined to set up ME as a separate sub-chapter to begin with and if the NH team can't pull it together and self support then collapse the two. Just my 2cents.
I am swamped with everything I need to take care of and wrap up for the big move to the big city. Owning property complicates things considerably ;-). Obviously, I can't run any practices which is why I have been trying to get someone to step up as the new facilitator. We'll see what happens...

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Wed, June 11, 2008 - 5:14 AMMorning all,
Jen, I haven't heard from Janie since mid march and I had asked Pam about going down to a practice/workshop of their's but have not heard from her since April 30th. I am a member of the New England Pure yahoo group also (Woodland Kitten), but the only thing from the NH Sub-chapter was the need for a new facilitator.
Neylan, we don't have ten people yet for a workshop here in Maine, But when we do we would love to invite someone up for a workshop on the Choreography.
Loving Blessings.....Lori -

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Thu, June 12, 2008 - 7:30 AMSorry, Lori. No one has, as yet, stepped up to the plate to take on the NH PURE facilitator role or offered to keep practices rolling here in NH hence the lack of activity. It's disappointing as we have a really solid group of dancers who know the routine very well and seemed excited about performing out in the community. Unfortunately, I have no time to organize practices anymore with everything I need to get done for the new job and relocation.
Hope you are able to make something great happen in Maine! -

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Thu, June 12, 2008 - 5:51 PMHi Pam,
Thank you for your response, I don't know what is happening with the NH PURE but I hope that we can in the end support each other. I know, as you have said, of the 100 mile disatance between troopes, but with energy cost the way they are currently traveling 100 mile weekly or monthly living in Maine is a stretch. I live 50 minutes from the practice/meeting space we are renting to put this P.U.R.E. troope together in Maine and I am just under an hour to Lotus Moon. We (me and me co-horst) would love to learn the Choreoraphy from the NH group or anyone willing to help, but with you being the only one to respond (and you are moving from the area) I just don't see that happening right now. I wish you the best in your new adventure. We (in greater portland area Maine) will proceed with what ever resourses we can find. I do hope that the NH P.U.R.E. group will accept our efforts and work together to promote this wonderful idea to Northern New England.
Loving Blessings Pam, And I wish you all the best in your new adventure. Keep in touch. Loving Blessings.....Lori (aka Woodland Kitten)

Looks like the NH PURE group is a bust sadly - no one able/interested to facilitate. If you like I can pass on your contact information to the women who were a part of NH PURE in case they want to join forces with you up in Portland. PM me here on tribe or email me at pamela @ lotusmoondance.com. Sounds like Angie is available to help you all get started with things up there as well.
Good luck and let me know if you need anything!

Re: Maine PURE chapter
Sun, August 17, 2008 - 2:19 PMHey folks! I just read through this thread now. Please keep us posted, and feel free to start a topic in the Bellydance in Maine tribe to generate more interest. There must be 10 people up here who would be into this. I've been wild about PURE since I first learned about it a few years ago, but at this point I know that I can't take on anything new. I really hope you have luck with this!
