http://www.coverpop.com/whitney/index.php?var=v5

Hard to pick a favorite but var 5 sounded the least chaotic to me... almost reminds me of some Tchaikovsky.

You have to watch it for a couple minutes for it to come all the way back around to the "One"

Programming for Visual/Audio Artists

Just sharing some nifty ideas here...

There's a thing called "Live Coding" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_coding where you write the software that's making the music ...while the music is being played! So I started looking around for tools to do this (e.g. http://www.python.org/pypi/athenaCL/1.4.4 ) and all of them have a very steep learning curve.

Also, there are some beautiful interactive visual-audio art pieces on display at http://processing.org/exhibition/ along with source code for each and the open-source java applet they're based on.

Ferrofluid is a very interesting material originally developed by NASA. It has now been used for a whole range of devices including dampers for controlling and stabilizing large buildings that move around in the wind. What's also amazing is that they have such lovely visual qualities when magnetized.

Sachiko has taken this idea of liquid architecture more literally with these stunning sculptures made from Ferrofluid which changes their state by the introduction of electro-magnetic waves into the fluid, turning it solid.

Does anyone else have a Moebius strip scarf? I made one a couple years ago. You cast on circular needles bent into a trefoil knot, and the scarf gets wider as you because you're knitting along the single edge. It's my favorite scarf:

Scrolling through my mp3s and listening to Sting, Ten Summoner's Tales, I noticed that he plays with time signature. There's a song on that album in 5/4, and there's another in 7/4 and 8/4 (feels like 4/2 in those sections). So I just had to nerd out about it.

Other songs that get me on time signature are Dave Matthew's "Satellite" with the 6/4-3/2 stuff, and especially Vienna Teng's "Harbor" (Download and listen to it here: http://www.viennateng.com/), which goes from 5/4 to 6/4 to 8/4 to 7/4... Crazy! But very pretty.

This guy is a madman! Perhaps best known for his SGI logo. But he also does this amazing stuff where text inverted says the same thing as right side up!
http://www.scottkim.com/inversions/index.html *** This one, look at this one!

I think his brain is wired backwards. I don't know how he does this but there are some classroom activities listed that may help. =)

... called "Harmonograph: A Visual Guide to the Mathematics of Music" by Anthony Ashton. I got it for my brother, who is a mathematician, about a year ago but I think that I took more of a liking to it than he did. I'm not a Brain or anything of the sort, but I like the fact that art doesn't have to have any deep meaning. Its fun to know that the answers are all there in front of you and the fact that you can loose yourself in the artistic side of it. That's what I find amazing about "Nerd Art". Below is a website where you can build your own harmonograph.

Welcome to Nerd Art! I honestly don't know what will go on in this tribe, but I just had to create it because, well, nerdiness and artistic ability are not at all mutually exclusive.

Present-day technology provides us with powerful tools to generate all sorts of art: static images, video, music, etc. At the same time, studying past art reveals many technical aspects: vanishing point, foreshortening, anatomy, chemistry of paint compounds, music theory, etc. And let's not forget sacred geometry: the Golden Ratio (phi), Fibonnaci, pi, etc.

But we know that stuff already. Enough background; let's nerd out!
